Don't Go Breaking My HWK

By shakedown47, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm getting excited for Scum and Villainy and got a head start by picking up 2 HWK-290s. My favorite list I've made so far has Torkil Mux and Palob Godalhi flying in support of either Kath Scarlet or Boba Fett. My hope is that between Torkil's PS shenanigans, Palob's ability to simultaneously debuff the enemy and help keep the Firespray alive, and two ion turrets, enemy ships will have a hard time with target priority and action economy.

My biggest question is which is the better Firespray pilot? It seems like an interesting tactic to have Kath K-turn on turn 2 and fly to keep enemies in her rear arc the entire game, but I don't know how well that would actually work. If anyone has tried it, let me know.

The list is as follows:

Boba Fett/Kath Scarlet (46/45)

-Predator, Recon Specialist, Inertial Dampeners

Palob Godalhi (30)

-Bodyguard, Ion Turret, Moldy Crow

Torkil Mux (24)

-Ion Turret

The list ends up at either 100 or 99 points, depending on the pilot. Thoughts?

I couldn't if I TIE/d

I couldn't if I TIE/d

Ahh beat me to it! :)

I couldn't if I TIE/d

Maybe if you'd bring a Lambda

Or attacked him with Y's

Depending on my own PS's, I'd probably go for Palob first.

Predator on Fett might be superfluous as well.

I don't think so. Either he or Kath will hit like a truck, especially if shooting at someone whose PS has been Mux'd with.

Depends on how close you are willing to fly Fett but he can reroll one die per enemy at range 1, working on defense as well as offense.

Are you willing to pay three points extra to get a reroll of one die while attacking at any range?

While no one can refute that boba's ability is cool. It also telegraphs your strategy that you'll want to be in range one of your opponents ships. You're opponent will probably try to minimize this ability as much as possible. Add to the fact two ship builds probably will not be forgotten once scum hits, how often will you have 3 or 4 enemies at range 1? Predator and lone wolf are still good options for boba because most likely you'll use it enough to justify the points. I'd take that over EPT's and crew that require actions to activate (Recon specialist, Marksman, ect.) because most likely you'll either bump with boba to get into range 1 or you'll get blocked and be denighed your actions anyway.

To be fair, he's got RecSpec on there, too.

My thoughts with Boba are that his ability is a plus, not something to design your strategy around. His ability, in conjunction with Predator, essentially takes Target Lock off the table. He can't afford to completely abandon the HWKs, so in the early rounds I'll be doing my best to circle at range 2. Once I start putting ion tokens on the table I can begin to plan Fett's maneuvers around those 1 straights.

I like Kath for the 4 dice. I like Boba for his PS and slightly better synergy with what the HWKs will be doing.

With mux, that's actually 2 dice.
