Fly Casual!!

By kinnison, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello, I was actually hoping I might be able to get some answer on the "Autopilot Droid Brian" and "Astrogation Droid Brain."

First off, I am about to start my first campaign and I want my Klatooinian Smuggler Pilot and the other PCs to be able talk to the ship.

Here are the rules:

Please see page 62 of the Fly Casual Sourcebook for details.

Price: 7500

Rarity: 6

Base Modifications:

  • Adds a Droid Brain with Piloting Skills 2 and Intellect 0
  • May summon vehicle via a beacon call.

Optional Modifications:

  • 2 Increase Droid Brain's Piloting Skills by 1 Mods

Does "Intellect 0" mean that the droid brain is or is not able to communicate? If it can't, what do you think the best way to make an on-board computer able to think and speak and hopefully learn and stuff. Would buying two comlinks (one for me and one to integrate into the computer) be good enough or do I need to get a Holo V Audio/Visual Translator or the starship attachment Interior Broadcast Suite? Also, does this "droid brain" only work on vehicles and not starships? If so, would a Slave Circuit let it speak and think or just "be my robot slave" which my Klatoonian race wouldn't really be cool with. I don't necessarily need Tony Stark's "Jarvis," but I'm hoping to make the ship similar to a group NPC with some fun personality quirks. The beacon call feature is great too, but I'd like to be able to yell into my comlink at my ship to "Hurry the hell up!" or whatever and have it respond "I am 0.87 miles from your location, Mr. Ogrokk" or something like that.

Any ideas on how any of this is should/could be done would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Just talk to your GM. AFAIK there's nothing yet that does what you want by RAW, but it sounds entirely reasonable for this attachment to do what you want. Maybe work out a deal where you pay an extra couple hundred credits and get the "enhanced model."

Stun 8 is unusually high, making the SSB-1 Static Pistol rather powerful. It would work great as a wookiee neutralizer :)

Also works great on those pesky Jedi types with their lightsabers and Reflect talents :D

One hit from this and they can kiss a huge chunk of their strain good-bye whether they used their Reflect talent or not.

I can picture an Indiana Jones-like encounter between a Jedi and a bounty hunter. The Jedi pulls out his lightsaber and shows off with a bunch of sweet moves. The bounty hunter just looks bored and unimpressed, pulls out his SSB-1, and shoots him with it. :D

No no. not a Jedi. A Sith...

If you can so, and you do that to the astrogation droid brain, you'd actually ge a Y and a G for basic astrogation...

Not sure if this could/should be allowed. Droids can always be upgraded with cybernetics (PC anyway), though I see no reason you couldn't upgrade you NPC droids with them if you have that kind of credits to throw around.

With that being said, if you could augment, could you augment the Agility rating of the pilot droid brain or the Blaster cannon one? If you can upgrade one, you shold be able to updrade the others I think.

Not saying I'd allow it, just more chow for the brain pan. :-P

How does spitfire (gunslinger) work exactly? I haven't played in a while so my knowledge of the rules is rusty. As I recall making an attack with 2 ranged light weapons, you use two advantage to activate the 2nd weapon and it hits the same target. With spitfire, it seems like that 2nd weapon can be against any target in range. That seems clear enough, but it mentions "each additional hit". Is it possible to get more than one extra hit from two weapons?

It is if the pistol has autofire or linked.

Cool, so my next question would be if anyone could point me towards any pistols with autofire or linked or mods to add those to them. Thanks!

I'd buy an Astromech instead. It costs 750 more, but comes with Ag 1/Int 2, Piloting 2 and Astrogation 2. Not upgradeable, but your GM might let you mod up your Astromech brain as you would the Droid Brains (as the base brains have the same ranks as the base droid). It wouldn't be unreasonable for your GM to require you to hardwire the droid into the ship if you want to upgrade it like the brains.

Does "Intellect 0" mean that the droid brain is or is not able to communicate?

The way I see it, the purpose of giving it Intellect 0 is so that if the system is used alone, then it rolls only green dice to perform some function. But if it is doing a Skilled Assistance action with a PC, then you could have some yellow dice in the mix. So, it’s a way of effectively giving an PC ranks in the piloting skill and the astrogation skill, without them necessarily being a pilot.

Myself, I would be inclined to have it communicate in much the same way that C-3PO communicated with the droid brains on Han’s ship during ESB.

If it can't, what do you think the best way to make an on-board computer able to think and speak and hopefully learn and stuff. If you want personality, then I would be inclined to do an Astromech droid, or a pilot droid, or maybe an LE-series repair droid. There’s a droid socket mod that can be installed on ships so that the droid can have full control of all flight systems, but not necessarily any of the combat systems.

There's two of them with autofire I think that both are in dangerous covenants you want the one that in universe is referred to as the "imperial repeating pistol" it's the one described (flavor texted) just before the sidewinder (which is the minigun blaster)

HH-50 blaster in Stay on Target page 41 has the linked quality.
