Fly Casual!!

By kinnison, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Okay, follow-up question.

Of the new ships/freighters, which of these are eligible as a group's starting vessel, i.e. have a cost of 120,000 credits or less?

I'm hoping the answer is a significant number, as the more options beyond "YT-1300" the better.

This is out?

Since when?

Got my copy last Wednesday.

I love Narrow Escape, but how does it work? Do I just flip 2 Destiny and the encounter ends for me?

I've not received notification that my writers copy is on the way. Honestly, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it for all the stuff I didn't write :) My role in this book was smaller in comparison to the other writers.

Well, it finally happened. We've had special abilities that I don't care for. I guess it'll be the upgrades that really sell it, but on the surface, they do nothing for me.

You've gotta think like more like a smuggler. I love the idea that I can push my luck as far as it can go, and still have an ace-in-the-hole to escape if things go excessively pear-shaped.

Imperial Star Destroyer got me in a tractor lock? Actually these two destiny points say I dodged behind another ship and jumped to hyperspace just in the nick of time ;) .

Unfortunately that signature ability only works in personal level combat, not when the ISD is bearing down on you, guns blazing.

Huh, that strikes me as odd to have a signature ability unusable in space combat in a book about smugglers.

Well, I'm sure if there's no easily-discernible reason for it in the book, a good GM can allow it when it makes sense regardless.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

There's an upgrade in the tree that allows you to use it for any vehicle situation, and upgrade that allow you to take allies with you in personal-scale combat.

Also throwing in my 2 cents to anyone on the fence: this book is brilliant. All the trees are really exciting and unique, TONS of really awesome Ranged (Light) weapons, and now characters can fight with a sword and dagger in true style! E.g., Vibro-rapier and Blade Breaker.

For GMs like myself, there's tons of great outlines for smuggling, travel and other things. I love the showdown rules.

No hardpoints, more encumbrance, but you get Disorient at increased rarity and cost

Shock books: Brawl +0 Dam, Crit 5, Encumbrance 2, 0 HP, 1250 credits, Rarity 5, Disorient 3 Stun 3.

Characters get a setback to notice the shockboots are a weapon and not normal footwear.

♫These boots are made for shocking♫

♫And shocking is what they'll do♫

♫One of these days these boots♫

♫Are gonna shock all over you♫

Shock books? Is that the effect when Fly Casual arrives suddenly when we thought they were stuck on the boat?

Me coat, I'll get.

I got my copy on pre-order *seems like i just got Lords of Nal Hutta*.

Can you give some info on the new Ranged Light weapons? or are the ones listed up top all that's there?

Also, I'd do inappropriate things to see the gunslinger tree lol

I was surprised to have this, but my FLGS (I now can add the F) had a copy for me along with Lords of Nal Hutta. I just did a quick read and I have to say:

THIS IS THE BEST SUPPLEMENT YET!

Seriously. it is all sorts of awesome

The new talents are prefect and quick useful, the species are some of my favorites. Some cool new weapons, Equipment, and armor. Including... get this... SHOCK BOOTS! it is like shock gloves but footwear. LOL

SOme highlights on Equpment:

Stingbeam. A holdout blaster that has a range of "Engaged" Dam 5, Crit 3, and vicious 1

Static Pistol: Damage 2 crit 4, Disorient 1, Stun 8

Scatter gun Damage 6, Blast 3, Knockdown

Flechette Pistol (has guided 3)

Cryoban Projector.. basically a shipboard fire extinguisher that can be used as a weapon. Damage 6, Crit 2, Blast 6, Cumbersome 3, vicious 2. and a boost die to put out fires.

Blade Breaker. Melee, +0 damage, Crit 4, Defensive 2, Pierce 1, Sunder (use in off hand with Vibrorapier below)

Vibrorapier Melee +2 Damage Crit 2, Defensive 1, PIERCE 5 !!!!

Mimetic Suit: Personal Cloak suit. lasts for about and hour.

Smuggler trenchcoat: someone trying to find a hidden item is opposed by wearers skulduggery

some new cyberwear Appraisers eye, Cavity, Digital lockpick. Safes (Bith hiding cubes, Magna-lock safe), Shadowcloak . and more cool stuff for thieves. More attachment

And ... i about had a geekgasum when I got to the new starships.

Ready?

Really?

First one on the list of new star ships

ALPHA-Class XG-1 "Star wing" Assault Gunboat!

followed by:

Imperial Customs Frigate

V-49 Decimator

CEC WUD-500 star Yacht ?

Starlight-Class light freighter

The return of the YKL-37R Nova Courier from LAotH

Baudo Class Star yacht (one of my old favorites from WEG)

Mobquet Medium Transport

Gozanti-Clas armed Transport

Gymsnor-3 Freighter (another WEG classic)

Gymsnor-4 (Flying wing?)

HWK-1000 Light Freighter... looks like a larger version of the HWK 290, Silhouette 4, speed 5, Encumberance 100

Yt-2000 "Otana" Lt Freighter

Capital Ships:

INTERDICTOR

GOLAN I Space defense platform (YIPES!)

More vehicle attachments... mmmm droid brains

and looks like some rules for transponder codes, adding new ones, and concealing the ones you have. Mainly skill rolls or mechanics checks.

a neat chart for spending dice results on astrogation rolls.

as well as times for lesser know routes and smuggling runs. (Kessel Run, Kessel Trade Corridor, Llanic Spice run, Ootmian Patrol, and Pabol Hutta))

Rules and guides for:

Con jobs and Scams

Heists and Break-ins

SHOWDOWNS and SHOOT-OUTS! (Basically rules for a showdown.. quite cool)

Gambling... introduces a dice game called "Hintaro"

LOADS OF GOOD STUFF.

Which version of the Baudo yacht is it? The cool delta wing shaped one or the ugly tuning fork version?

I've not received notification that my writers copy is on the way. Honestly, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it for all the stuff I didn't write :) My role in this book was smaller in comparison to the other writers.

What part did you write?

Until I get my copy, I won't actually know. I know what I wrote, I know where it was originally planned for the book, but like with Stay on Target, I won't know exactly what parts are mine until I have my own copy in hand. Such is the production process :) I can say this was the very first project that I worked on for FFG, and it was hard to contain my geekly enthusiasm.

Now if someone who has the book asks, did you write X? I can confirm stuff. Most likely you'll find my stuff in Chapter 3.

Any new talents for the Gunslinger? Does the tree encourage them to dual wield?

yes, not really

At the bottom of Column 2, there is the "Spitfire" Talent. after a successful combined attack with two ranged (light) weapons, additional hits can be allocated to other targets within range of the weapon

Also "Gunblazing" is 2nd from bottom in column 3 "as an incidental suffer two strain to avoid increasing difficulty of a combine ranged (light) check"

But also there is a new weapon attachment "Paired" which costs 300 for the pair, 1 HP per weapon, that reduces the Advantage required to hit with the secondary weapon, when 2 weapon fighting by 1

I don't follow with what Spitfire actually does. I thought that you could already divvy up your shots between two targets. Or does it let you keep buying hits after the first two (like autofire) and apply them to different targets?

Gunblazing sounds like a different flavor of Rain of Death. 2 strain as opposed as a maneuver. Interesting.

On the surface, paired sounds like power creep. You're effectively getting +1 Advantage for 300 credits. I'm going off memory here, but I believe the Laser Sight is 500 for +1 Advantage (or is it a boost die?) but has the disadvantage of being a red dot that your enemies can track back to you. What other Attachments give you an Advantage or a boost die? Superior for 5,000 credits? Modifications to other Attachments? Does Paired have any modifications? (Don't mind my nay saying too much. I'm just being a negative Nancy who would make a Gunslinger with Paired guns in a heartbeat.)

Woohoo! I just got the notice that my Fly Casual has shipped! With luck I'll have it early next week....

does paired work with lightsabers?

Not really. You get +1 advantage that can only be spent on one thing (granted, its usually the best option) but you only get it when you're fighting with two weapons, so you have a +1 to difficulty.

Dual-wielding needed something to make it worthwhile when compared to any similar weapon with the linked quality. (Weapons that are comparable to base weapons with linked are the real power-creep in my opinion.)

Granted, I don't have the book yet. I may be missing something, but that's my take on the Paired attachment so far.

Ink Spray: Once per encounter, spend 2 strain to add 1 black die to the combat check of a character within short range. If under water add 3 black dice to the check.

Does this strike no one else as HILARIOUS?!? :D

I mean it's kinda like the Ithorian bellow ability--just sorta came out of nowhere. But yes, that is awesome.

Do they say where the ink comes from? If it comes from the Quarren's anal glands it's going to be really disturbing and hard to employ (although it would give a justification for wearing assless chaps).

It makes me laugh because you're adding black dice. Classic. :P

[EDIT: And yes, HappyDaze, this could change the tone of a campaign considerably  ]

It also takes up a hard point in each weapon. For those that want to optimize dual weaponry its great, but if you are about optimizing a weapon every HP counts so it may not be the best choice.

Just got my copy today. Yee haw!
