Egads ... What an abysmal change to the website !!!

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I have to wear sunglasses to use this site now ...

Not to mention the fact that none of the drop down menus hovering works ...

Please ... please ... please ... go back to the way it was !

I second that -- I was on when it made the change over and I immediately closed the browser because I thought something had gone terribly wrong.

Come to find out it did!

It looks like FFG is making a lot of changes to the website. They may be adding lots of cool features, I'm just really hoping this is a temporary color scheme- the dark blue was immeasurably easier on my eyes.

Bungie made the same change in color scheme (dark blue/gray to white/light gray) awhile ago and I think the response was similar- why so bright?

I tried sending a "helpful" suggestion to the Webmaster (through the normal form) to tone down the color scheme, or go back to what it was, and when I clicked on send, it errored out with a server side error. :P

That's one way to avoid feedback. :D

Hisss! My eyes!!! The light, it burns! :o

Yep.. hit refresh a few times because I thought maybe some CSS file wasn't loading. Pretty sure I'm now half blind.

Dracula+Has+Risen+from+the+Grave+Lee+tea

Fantasy flight! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????

I thought something had gone terribly wrong.

...

We now have a change theme button between the orange NSS button and the English(USA) thing.

Man it feels good to have the old layout back!

thx for this info.

Looks like I found it in time before my eyes burned out.

I really hope this new design isn't final.

It's a lot more cluttered and looks like a cookie cutter website without any personality and is highly remminiscent of the design-accident that is windows metro.

Luckily we can go back to the old side until they fully launched the new one.

I dunno why they wanted to change it in the first place!

The old (real, proper, true, right, correct, good, once-and-future) layout is good, well centred with a colorscheme that is clearly readable, has proper contrast and is easy on the eyes.

The new (Inferior, bad, shoddy work, wrong, eyescorching, badly designed) design was clearly made by someone who didn't (have to) look at it for longer than 5 minutes.

At least there are still all the messages on the forum. We had the same change in the site of Edge, the company who takes this games to Spain and France. It went from this:

http://forosv2.edgeent.com/v2/edge_foros.asp

To this (this September):

http://www.edgeent.com/foros

But all the forums were "reset", and we had to dig in the first link I've given, and copy relevant information for ourselves to the new topics...

And it seems that again FFG "copied" the way they look (I've heard that the previous look was also inspired in Edge old look).

5 minutes ... 5 minutes ?!!!

It was 2-3 seconds and I closed the browser to prevent going blind ... :P

So I also posted this in X-Wing, but perhaps I will get a different response from users of this forum ...

I live in Las Vegas, and as such, I need to pose the following question ...

Assume this site has 10,000 unique users. What is the over/under on the number of unique users that stay with the new design?

I think that number is less than 100.

And if this is anywhere near accurate, I sure hope FFG didn't spend too much time and/or money on the new design.

Thank g-d they added the "Change Theme" button on the bottom of the screen. I, as well as many others I know, sent Feedback via the new button. I am surprised their server wasn't overloaded with the feedback. :P

That's because i sent mine by voodoo doll; :D (Just kidding! I sent a stern but polite feedback message.)

Designer: "boss boss! look! the forums are lighting up talking about the new design!"

Admin: "Yeah thats not good"

Designer? "why not?"

Admin: "They all either hate it, or think their browser is broken! can't you read?"

Designer: "I've just gone blind sir..."

Admin: "Thats it, we're giving them a change button."

A thousand times thank you. I feel like I have an old friend back.

I think this is the fourth (or fifth?) layout change I've seen on the FFG website. Definitely the brightest one so far, but I'm so accustomed to the concept of change by now that the details don't really matter to me anymore. =P

It's the second change now that has preserved the forums. I guess before that they didn't have a separate database for the posts or something?

I feared the site was going to change like the french one (as you might know, this site is supported by Edge, the french traductors of the game)

In the french site, this change created a big wave of unpleased persons, but it was useless. I hope english one would stay the same, looks like it is not.

I, too, wishes to go back, but i don't think it will ever be. but this one is a little better than the french one, so be "happy" some way.

Wow this is bright. Please go back to a darker color.

I am convinced that there will be more than 1% of the users that will stick with the new design.

New design is set by default and a lot of people will never find the "Change Theme" feature. BTW, you will find the feature at the bottom of the page, right of the orange RSS Feed icon.

That said, I don't understand this tendancy to use so much white on web/application design. I've seen some application I am using updating its GUI (graphical user interface) to some over-white interface. It makes me feel like it is Windows 98 all over again... Good times !

Is it only possible to change the style in the forums?

I opened the main page again today having completely forgotten about these "improvements" and now wonder if I will have to stick to the new cluttered main page for news or if it's possible to get the old much clearer style back.

There appears to be no way to go completely back to the old format. It is almost as if the "theme" only controls the forums, and nothing else.

Looks like i be visiting ffg site a lot less than before. Layout is failure not to mention those bright background.

Thanks for the info!

Hated the new colors.

My guess is the admins complained that if they had to read posts all day against a full white background they'd go westcoast longshore union and strike. :)
