What's the difference between the English USA and modified options?

With any software upgrade, there are always kinks and things that aren't working quite right. This is probably one of them - give it some time, let them work the bugs out of the migration and THEN let them know it stinks

Actually, I quite like the new layout. I just need to be able to change the colours to something darker.

None that I noticed, actually.

Change theme is back. Hop to it folks, before they alter the deal further!

I work in IT and I see this a lot:

Them: Version 2 is terrible.

Me: Why?

Them: Because it isn't version 1.

Me: Oh.

I say give it a few days and see....

Full FFFFFF background works for google. WHY does it work for google? because you're only looking at the **** site long enough to type in what you are looking for and then you're off. Having a forum like that is unworkable.

Hey, I gave distinct reasons.

"give it a few days and see..." Unfortunate choice of words as I couldn't see afyer 10 minutes!

Never needed shades to look at a site before...

THe Change Theme button appears on one of the higher tiered pages. Either the basic Community page or the beginning of the Roelplaying Game forums. Or maybe down as far as the specific game page.

Once I changed it, it disappeared.

I like the look for the main web site but the forums are too difficult to read for my old eyes.

[edit] I lost track of it. I changed it at the bottom of the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG page. [end edit]

Go to the bottom of the page and 'Change Theme' if you don't like it...

Was looking for this in my profile settings. I knew there had to be an option somewhere. Thanks for the heads up.

I can't stand how most websites are designed with that White background. I have a 40" LED monitor. So for me, it's like staring directly into a light bulb.

Gahhh, the relief. Thank you.

I work in IT, and what happens is IT doesn't generally care, and we use that "give it a few days" excuse to arrive at a false read of the situation. We give it a few days and people stop complaining, but it doesn't mean they like it any better, it means they realize nobody is going to do anything about it anyway.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by the industry I'm in.

Appearance change? I haven't noticed...

If the page layout changes, that's prety much like rearranging the furniture. Please don't do it!

Looks like they fixed the theme change, all the graphics of the old are back in place. Whew!

I do like the new layout better though...

Go to the bottom of the page and 'Change Theme' if you don't like it...

Oh sweet christmas, bless you sir!

And my retinas thank you too!

Relevant:

One thing that's nice with the new layout: it's much easier to tell the difference between the circle and the star to know what topics you've posted to. I always had to squint to tell the difference in the old theme because of the color choices they used.

Go to the bottom of the page and 'Change Theme' if you don't like it...

Thanks.

I'll throw in a vote that the new theme hurt my eyes. If changing the theme back wasn't an option then I'd probably stop coming to this website.

As for the intent of the new theme, I would like to have an option of a white theme. At least one that doesn't hurt my eyes. All the dark colors on the old theme make it painfully obvious to onlookers that you're looking at something personal when at work. I feel that a white theme would be a tad more stealthy and stop the "what'cha lookin' at?" questions.

Edited to add: Btw, I'm a writer and I'm used to looking at nothing but white MS Word documents with black text. That doesn't hurt my eyes at all. There is just something about the new theme that I couldn't stand.

I like the new look

I'd love to see the metrics of how many keep the new theme. Going from the response here I'd say about 10%.

With MS Word you typically have a white panel in the middle, a darker surround and then and only then the edge of your monitor and outside world. So the new theme is a great deal more whiteness on the eyes. Additionally the margins on the new themes are far narrower so whereas before your eyes were making slight side to side scans across the text, you now (if you're using a widescreen monitor as I am) making far longer traversals which are more tiring to the eyes.

Somewhere a little between the two would be nice, imo.

I have to admit, yesterday I saw no change in the layout on my screen. I had to check to make sure it wasn't April fools or something. I really thought at first it was just some you messing around.

The way I roll while writing I cover my screen with two MS Word docs side by side. So all that I see on my laptop screen (which is smaller than this work computer monitor I'm currently using and had issues with the new theme) are two pure white pages covered with black text outlined with the window boarders and toolbar at the top of the page and Windows menu bar across the bottom. There is a heck of a lot of white space, more than what I have open while looking at this page right now.

Actually, I decided to flip back to the new theme for a moment to see if I can diagnose what my issues is. Some of it might be the contrast between the soft grays and dark grays where the user names are. The dark gray is trying to draw my eyes to it and it's causing strain to force my eyes to keep reading the post. Some of it might just be the shade of light gray in the post box that I'm having issues looking at it. If it was pure white it would be better for me.

While I type this post, the white in the box I'm typing in gives me no issues. I do notice it appears to be a different shade of white than what's in the "Reply to this topic" box surrounding it. That is in contrast to the gray border around the box. Also, the gray in the posted post boxes is a different shade as is the background page gray. I don't know web design, but does typical design involve at least 5 different shades of white to gray in a single page? That's not counting the various different colors used for the various different buttons.

I kind of think my issue might be that there are so many different shades of light gray combined with the dark gray name bar that my eyes are getting confused and strained while trying to read the text. There is too much drawing my eyes.

Side note, there are some colors/situations that always seem to strain my eyes. Ever lay down and stare up at a pure blue sky? I hate it. It strains my eyes. I've always thought it's because there are really so many different shades of blue going on that it all looks the same but yet different and my eyes are trying to figure out what shade they are looking at. That might be my problem here. Too many shades of similar grays are over stimulating my eyes combined with the need to focus away from the dark name bar.

I really wish I could pinpoint what my issue is. Ever go onto the WotC forums? Those use about the same color scheme but I have no problem there. I don't know why I have a problem here. The only difference I can think of is that in addition to the dark gray bar (about the same shade as the name bar here) they also have a bar that is two darker shades of gray (charcoal) in a stripped design. Perhaps this breaks up my eye-lines and doesn't draw my focus? The other difference is that here the posts are in boxes and on WotC they are not. I think the boxes and make the similar colors of light gray (post, frame, page background) busy and cause strain because my brain is struggling with the light shades that are all different but close together.

You know, the white is doable with my monitor brightness set to 30%...have my laptop in power saving mode, and I switched back to the "Fantasy Flight New" theme, and I am now impressed! It's workable.

I do like the layout a bit better in the new theme, and the contrast is really nice for readability.
