S&V vrs Rebels does it matter which miniature I use?

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing

It's quite funny that people think FFG is going to magically change thier stance on this. They won't. They expect people to buY the product they are going to play with. They've even packaged the product in a way to ease the expansion. They will not suddenly change thier minds and allow mixed faction dials.

They also aren't going to allow proxy upgrades or start selling individual cards, in case you were wondering.

You mean like the way they magically changed their stance on cosmetic changes to bases and miniatures?

The way in which they sell thier product is not impacted by altering that stance.

You do see the difference between a change that alters thier business plan and one that doesn't factor into that at all?

Still "can't" even make small alterations (like turret replacements for the flimsy easily broken crap they put on the non-Outrider fatties) to the ships themselves like the popular Hwk top turret mod.

Since we're talking about small rules, and getting our peeve on, I'd like to hijack/necro this thread is a slightly different direction, picking up on something said a few pages ago.

Why so serious? Don't most people just place their dials on the ship cards so as not to crowd the playing area during activation?

I play with dials on the table as opposed to pilot cards. ... The only thing I put on my pilot cards are shield tokens.

I don't really like it when people put dials and/or tokens (other than shields) on their ship cards. Also, the rules state that tokens and dials are supposed to be placed near the ships, not near the ship cards.

Now, I won't make make a stink about this unless I have a player doing this sort of behavior trying to rules-lawyer me (or is otherwise just being blunt about the rules). That, or if a the opponent's ship's available tokens (such as focus or evade) are escaping my attention because they're not immediately visible.

...

Okay,

Carry on.

I hope they stick to it.

I honestly don't care what people play with in a pick-up/messing around game, but if I'm coming to play in a competitive, timed environment and my opponent wants to play Scum, he better have the correct cardboard to go with it.

If you want to play "collectors cardboard" you should play that instead of X wing.

It's not about collecting cardboard. It's a slap in the face to someone who buys all the proper ships they need, to then one day have FFG say "Oh, that stuff you just bought last month? You totally don't need any of it".

I fully expect FFG to overturn this.

Don't hold your breath. They have if nothing else a financial reason to make that ruling.

Multiple Faction Ships:

All pilot cards and ship tokens in a player’s squad must belong to the same faction. If a player’s ship has different versions in more than one faction, he or she may use any version of that ship’s model and dial in his or her squad. Multiple Ship Example: Scott is fielding a Scum & Villainy squad consisting of four Z-95 Headhunters and one Firespray. His Firespray model and dial are from the Imperial Firespray expansion, two of his Z-95 Headhunter models and dials are from the Rebel Z-95 expansion, and the final two of his Z-95 Headhunter models and dials are from the Scum & Villainy Most Wanted expansion. However, all of his pilot cards and ship tokens are from the Scum & Villainy faction.

Totally called this one, but I had oxygen on standby just in case. :D

(and please take this in the fun gesture I intended this to be and not as a snarky jack-wagon comment.)

Yep they changed their minds, although they apparently did so today. Because 2.2.2 said dials mattered and 2.2.3 said they don't.

If that's the final ruling on it, then I'm happy. Honestly I didn't care a lot either way, I just argued it from the point of view that this is how it would work based on what we were told. I'm honestly a bit shocked at it. But it doesn't hurt my feelings any. Myself I'll stick with the correct faction dials when I play just because I think it will look better, and can't see me running more than 4 Z-95's or Y-Wings.

No snarky jack-wagon here. :)

I agree with you. I can't ever imagine running 4 Zs, but it's nice to know I can. Glad this one had been put to bed.

I agree with you. I can't ever imagine running 4 Zs

I ordered 2 boxes of MW so it was never an issue for me.

personally I like using the A wing dial on my Y wings..... -_-

Wooo! Common sense prevails!

Only 2??

Only 2??

I have 6 Z-95's and don't think I've ever put all 6 on the table at once. So 4 S&V Z-954's, 4 Y-Wings, 2 HWK's and 2 Firesprays seemed like plenty to me.
