energy with CR-90 round one

By Darthfish, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So let me see if I understand this.

1. At the beginning of the game, the CR-90 would start with full energy, which means that you would place 5 energy tokens on the card.

2. Then, when the ship activates, it gains, let's say, 3 more energy. Does this get discarded before the allocate energy step ( this would seem to be the case from reading the rules about energy limit in the huge ship rules ) In this case, that 3 energy is wasted.

OR

Do you get a total of 8 points to allocate / use this round. (This would seem to be a violation of the energy limit rule)

I realize that energy on upgrade cards does not counet against this total, only energy on the ship card, but you don't allocate any of your starting energy until you gain more from your gain energy step, which would seem to mean thta your first round energy is immediately discarded.

someone set me straight please

Yes, any energy gained on the first move is wasted. Starting with full energy is a relativley new change. It used to be you started with no energy.

People then complained that the first move was to predictable (allways the slowes, most energy gaining one).

Now people complain* that you are forced to waste the energy from the starting move.

Cant please every one :)

*Not saying you are complaining, just trying to poke a bit of fun.

You can spend one energy on Engine Booster. Then your maneuver gains one energy.

thanks, smuggler. that was the only conclusion I could come to, and I agree it makes you a lot less predictable out of the gate. As others have said, it flat out sucked when you started with no energy.

Well that's just it, they went from one extreme to the other, and clearly neither extreme is good. They should just say half rounded up or something. A cr90 starting with 3 energy at least has some choices about what maneuver to make, it makes it not such an obvious choice :)

I dunno, seems about right to me the way they have it now. It's not invincible, and it does not feel overpowered. Seems about right to me. I still don't think it's an obvious choice now. some will hang back to maximize their primary and get off more shots, while others may opt to charge in, something that was not possible before. I think it gains some flexibility, and is ready to foght once the enemy arrives.
