Spectre Squadron. Imposing the Emperor's Will!

By Sethis, in X-Wing

The aim was to go for as brutal a look as possible on the Decimator, and make the ships more uniform in colour, as every TIE appears to be a different shade of grey, and Decimators vary wildly between boxes. The Phantom stripes are a little wide, I think. So I'll go back and redo them at some point.

Nice job. What have you used for the Decimator turret?

It's half of a Tau Burst Cannon from Games Workshop, magnetised so it spins 360 degrees. :)

0Dark. Its a Warhammer 40 Tau weapon, I cant remember the name.

Very tasteful. I love the uniformity.

Very cool!

Awesome. I just picked up a Decimator myself today and was going to paint it and my Lambda to match. I may steal the pattern!

Excellent work. Less is more done very well

Very nicely done.

I think repaints look the best when a fleet is all painted with the same design :)

These look great. Very intimidating!

Not a big fan of the Decimator, but the shuttle (and the rest) looks awesome!

Thanks for the kind comments guys, I did two Bombers today in the same scheme (eventually it'll all be the same, but I have 20+ ships AND Rebels to be getting on with...). All done with GW paints.

For those interested in doing something similar, it's:

1. Basecoat Mechanicus Standard Grey. 2 Coats.

2. Nuln Oil wash, medium-heavy.

3. Drybrush Codex Grey (not sure what the modern version is called).

4. Cut up and use white postage labels to give you the straight lines you need for the stripes. Khorne Red. 1-2 coats.

5. For the larger ships, outline the red design with a 0.2mm artist pen and a ruler.

6. Drybrush and fill engines with Etherium Blue. make sure to get some overspill to give that dynamic lighting effect.

7. Do the centre of the engines with Skull White/White Scar while the Etherium Blue is still "wet" and blend as best you can.

8. Glaze the engines with Guilliman Blue.

9. Matt Varnish spray, 2-3 thin coats because this stuff chips hella easy.

Done and done. I also spray my bases black for effect, and paint the front nubs silver so I can see them easier on Starfields.

Great work! Also, props for the Eddings book in the background!

These look great. The only thing that bugs my eye is the cardboard edges on the ship plates: your bases look so good, you should really take a black sharpie to 'em.

Love 'em!

Personally Althalus just felt like a less fleshed out Belgarath to me,

without the supporting cast
