Rerouting Power?

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

So in a mild attempt to get away from the recent shipping news, I'm trying a new line of questioning. I don't think it'll be in the rules since they've the engineering tokens but what about rerouting power? So you could decrease a speed by 1 to add 2 shield points or reduce shields on an unendangered side to add a blue die to an attack?

Just curious. Would seem a simple and fluffy addition once you figured the conversion equivalents. And it would give you an actionable economy as you manipulated the 3 powers. It would make keeping fighters nearby to keep enemy ships honest important as well.

I guess it would be a variation of Expose - dropping Attacks or Shields to boost Agility, Attacks or Shields

Oops, wrong forum - I don't know if the above is possible in Armada!

Both the redirect token and engineering let you fiddle with where your shield power is directed (1 engineering point to rerout power from one facing to another, 2 points to regenerate a new shield point), and the VSD's "Dominator" title also lets you spend up to two shield to gain blue dice on an attack.

As far as I can tell Dominator isn't limited to one use per turn, so you could spend 4 shield to get 4 extra blue dice across both attacks in a single turn.

I also like to think about the redict token as moving shild power to the facing being hit rather than moving damage to another facing.

If none of the yet unspoiled crew do such things in wave 1, then maybe there will be in wave 2.

So you could decrease a speed by 1 to add 2 shield points or reduce shields on an unendangered side to add a blue die to an attack?

I'm not following you here: altering speed would cost "energy," Engineering, or some other resource. As would increasing shield strength....

This mechanic seems more powerful than the current Engineering functions. I would be more comfortable with it if it scaled directly to them.

Are you seeing this as an upgrade card, a ship title, an expansion of the engineering rules, or as a separate mechanic entirely?

I agree, dropping speed currently takes an action, and gaining two shields to do it for free would be EXTREMELY powerful. In fact, it would be totally insane when coupled with an engineering action on the same turn.

So you could decrease a speed by 1 to add 2 shield points or reduce shields on an unendangered side to add a blue die to an attack?

Slowing down in space takes energy, as you have to reverse the thrust direction on the engines, if anything maintaining speed and direction should leave energy left over to increase shield strength.

But as the previous people have said, this is already covered by the existing commands, e.g. the engineering command redirecting energy to the shields, the navigation command redirecting enrgy to the engines, etc.

You are just combining the effects to make them more powerful.
