Vassal up and running. Lets battle!

By chriscook, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Also, as the vassal scene is growing (yay!), so does apparently the risk of someone trying to troll or ruin your game.

Yesterday there were several games running at the same time and I noticed them all being locked one after another and I presume that it might have been because the others were experiencing the same as me and my opponent did. A would-be-fool entered our game room and within seconds started flooding the chat with comments, then he started triggering all the different sounds from cards and figures at the same time, moving around stuff in the play area and finally he flooded the dice window with die rolls while we were in the middle of resolving an attack. All this happened in the span of three or four minutes and was clearly intending to disrupt the enjoyment of our game (as well as that of our spectators following it). Having already asked him to quit it, I was eventually forced to lock the room and kick him (which only made the harrashment continue in private tells to both me and my opponent) and proceed to put him on ignore as well. This guy is a familiar name on this forum and no stranger to vassal, so it clearly wasn't the case of someone new to the vassal module and not knowing what they were doing.

So, if you are playing a game and someone is obstructing it, the player who opened the room can right-click on the name of the room in the list of active games and lock it. Once locked you will be able to kick out the person.

And, if you are a spectator, please don't interrupt the game. Don't touch anything - and keep comments to a minimum, unless the players are asking for your input on something.

Also, please recognize that it's extremely easy to change your screenname on Vassal, and so this troll whom you encountered last night might not actually be the person he was claiming to be.

I'm glad that Vassal has the Kick function, because occasionally these kind of people show up and need to be dealt with. Thankfully there is also an Invite function, whereby you can have someone from outside a locked room, join your room.

Exactly and it is one of several reasons why I didn't add his name above (even if I have good reason to believe that he is an established player).

Version 5.1 is available now. It contains some functionality improvements (detailed over on the first post of the thread at https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1308588/vassal-imperial-assault-skirmish ) and also includes the pre-loaded missions for each of the current Legal Maps.

The thread at BoardGameGeek is where I'll be posting the vassal mod updates from now on.

Appreciate all the effort that goes into updating and making this mod work for us. Great to see how much the online skirmish scene has grown. Two large tournaments going on already and I see new people on Vassal all the time. Thanks man!

Are there days and times when more people are on vassal?

Not really. If you don't already have a circle of players to play against, hop onto our discord server: http://discord.me/bweu and start pestering people there. You should get a few games per week in, almost regardless of timezone. Well AUS might be difficult still).

I don't see 7.0 showing up on that page.

Yeah, the Vassal site is now requiring a mod to approve all new Edits to pages. Once my edit is approved, the link will work. Maybe try again tomorrow morning?

I can't seem to find it yet on Vassal

Version 7.1 is now uploaded and available.

http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Star_Wars:_Imperial_Assault#Files

--Updated the Legal Maps button, dropping Training Ground for ISB Headquarters. Added the ISB Headquarters pre-saved missions. Europe and North America now use the same Map List for tournaments, so the “Legal Maps (EU)” button has been removed since it’s now redundant.
--Reduced the size of all Tokens (Terminals, Crates, etc) to be 60% of what they were before, so that it’s now easier to see and access your Figure while it’s occupying the same space as a Token. Companion Tokens are now at 80% of their original size.
--Added 2 new buttons to each Player Hand. They will send all of your Deployment Cards and Figures, respectively, to your deck. They have no purpose during the game, but simply make it easier to save your squads. They function just like the button that sends your Command Cards to your deck (cf Version 7.0), but these 2 buttons will only send your Deployment Cards or Figures (of any size), respectively.
--Added a “Ready DCs” button to each Player Hand. At the end of the round (when all of your Deployment Cards are Exhausted), simply click this button to Ready them all at once.

Version 8.2 is now uploaded.

Follow this thread (and read the Change Log for version 8.2 because there have been some big changes!): IA Skirmish mod thread on BGG

Version 9.0 is now uploaded.

It includes some convenience fixes for the Score Card mechanism and a minor color change (all the Purple outlines on figures and cards are now Red instead). Oh yeah...and all of the Wave 9 stuff is in there too. :)

Sweet!

Version 9.1 is uploaded. The main purpose of this update is to keep up with the Tournament Maps list (so that the Nal Hutta Swamps missions are both pre-loaded for easy access), but there are other upgrades to the mod as well. Read the Change Log in the first post of the thread on BGG for details.

Enjoy!

Do you discard the old version when you upgrade or does it do it automatically? Are previous editions compatible?

Did you add Driven by Hatred or Ahsoka, sentry droids, etc.?

Yes, you should delete your old version (version 9.0 or older) once you have this one. If you happen to accidentally load the old one, you'll end up being frustrated because the new functionality won't be working, and then you might turn to the dark side. So yes, for the sake of balance in the force, please delete your old version whenever you download a new version of any IA Skirmish Vassal module.

The Driven by Hatred card was already on there because at the time (when I published version 9.0) it was the only card that had been spoiled for Wave 10 and it was an easy add (requires no Figures, who normally want their Command Cards, etc). I've never tried to keep up with the previews in the past, because it's far too easy to miss one. Furthermore, since there are periods when we receive new previews every few weeks, people would be having to update their mod far too often. I'll add the new Wave 10 stuff after Wave 10 has been released.

Edit: Misunderstood the question. Trevor seemed to handle it anyway...

If you've already turned to the dark side, will the 9.1 update recognize that there is still good in you?

So, I played using version 9.1 today. For some reason when I created a figure in the newest version I couldn't add damage to them, but the figures I had from version 9.0 I could add damage.

User error, or a bug?

@mellowthello had a similar issue I think? How were you both adding damage?

We created damage tokens, which you can add a number to, and then moved those damage tokens around to keep track.
