Vassal up and running. Lets battle!

By chriscook, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Sounds promising.

I plan to have a look at how the X-Wing vassal tournaments have been run - but any thoughts, suggestions, or advice on such a tournament?

Hi guys,

Considering to set up a IA vassal tournament to grow the vassal community. Would this be of interest to you?

Absolutely. :)

I've just played my first game of IA on Vassal, and I loved it! I'm definitely looking forward to getting some more practice in before Nationals. Anyone else up for it? I'm in California and have some flexibility of play times.

UPDATE: The Vassal mod is updated with the Wave 3 stuff (Hired Guns, Wookie Warriors, Stormtroopers).

As always, feel free to delete your old version of the mod file (likely 2.0) once you download the new version.

I'm Interested in a vassal tournament / league. Have played a tone of IA but haven't played on vassal yet.

I'm familiar with vassal though as i've played a lot of x-wing online. I may try to log on tonight around 7 EST if anyone is interested in a game.

do people use Voice over IP or is it easy enough to play only using the vassal chat?

I've had no problem with the chat window, but be sure you are carefully reading the dice results. I would regularly miss stuff.

Big thanks to DTDanix for pointing out an error to me. Some of the Deployment Cards were creating the wrong Figures when using the CTRL-F command. Fixed. New version (3.1) uploaded.

Please get the new version and delete your 3.0 version. I'm sorry for the headache.

Hey, we are all very grateful for your work, thereisnotry! Looking forward to giving the new figures a run!

Return to Hoth is up!

Version 4.0 is now live. Go to http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Star_Wars:_Imperial_Assault and download it.

I've completely upgraded the dice rolling system, so it should play MUCH better now. Enjoy!

Posted this on BBG, might as well do it here also. Should perhaps be a separate thread....

AWSOME!!!!!!!

How many people would be interseted in a Vassal tournament?

Been thinking about it for a while. WOuld be my first tourmenat organized like this.
Players would be paired up and have a week to play the game and post the results.
A tournament with six games would then be six weeks long.

What do you think, anything to continue to work on, no prizes ,except honour of course, just play and have fun and perhaps more will play vassal in the end.

Absolutely I'm in! I've participated in this for other games on Vassal, and it's always been a good time.

You should definitely encourage the use of Skype for this though...it makes everything work much easier and faster.

I've been waiting for this! Can't wait to play on vassal some more.

I'm definitely interested in a tournament.

You know? Just thank you for all your work on this. :)

Neither can I, now that I try. But it was working yesterday; I did a test-download from scratch and it worked great.

I think it's probably just a temporary connection issue with the Vassal website. Things should be better soon.

Is there an alternate download link?

Good idea. I've uploaded it to my OneDrive. Here's a link: http://1drv.ms/1nBVbNP

I would be in as well. Let's do this.

Downloaded 4.0 and I love the dice setup. It's the closest thing I have seen to actually rolling them!

I'm in for some Vassal play. I try to log on each night and on the weekend to see if anything is going on. I am also on the boardwars.eu discord app chat although I am based in the US (east coast).

Thank you so much for your effort and for keeping the module up to date!

On a related note, don't miss out on signing up for the upcoming Boardwars European Spring IA Vassal Tournament. Sign ups close on Sunday!

Also, as the vassal scene is growing (yay!), so does apparently the risk of someone trying to troll or ruin your game.

Yesterday there were several games running at the same time and I noticed them all being locked one after another and I presume that it might have been because the others were experiencing the same as me and my opponent did. A would-be-fool entered our game room and within seconds started flooding the chat with comments, then he started triggering all the different sounds from cards and figures at the same time, moving around stuff in the play area and finally he flooded the dice window with die rolls while we were in the middle of resolving an attack. All this happened in the span of three or four minutes and was clearly intending to disrupt the enjoyment of our game (as well as that of our spectators following it). Having already asked him to quit it, I was eventually forced to lock the room and kick him (which only made the harrashment continue in private tells to both me and my opponent) and proceed to put him on ignore as well. This guy is a familiar name on this forum and no stranger to vassal, so it clearly wasn't the case of someone new to the vassal module and not knowing what they were doing.

So, if you are playing a game and someone is obstructing it, the player who opened the room can right-click on the name of the room in the list of active games and lock it. Once locked you will be able to kick out the person.

And, if you are a spectator, please don't interrupt the game. Don't touch anything - and keep comments to a minimum, unless the players are asking for your input on something.
