Ok, now I am confused. The article says it will take place after the events in Prometheus 2. While technically that could be centuries after, the implication is that it will be set between P2 and Alien, yet all of those (very cool) production sketches are clearly for a storyline set after Aliens.

Could be anytime. They could clone Ripley and anyone else they wanted to. Not saying they should. But they could.
Alien 3 had its moments but suffered from confused handling and conflicts with the crew etc. At least it wasnt on a space station made of wood.
Resurrection deserves to be eliminated from history. When they couldnt even make a ship that wasnt just half of an Orguroid with Valkyrie arms they dont deserve to be remembered

Id go one further and say that Alien should have been left alone. They could have just used the budget etc for Aliens and made a proper Starship troopers movie. That is obviously what Cameron had in mind. Then again that would have just given me something else to complain about as well since Heinlein gets about as much respect as Wells when it comes to adaptations

Alien 3 demanded that this new movie be made though. A new movie that repudiates everything made after Aliens. If it has to be made, might as well make it a good one. Blomkamp is the person to do that.

Since decanonization has gotten it's precedences (with X-Men, Wolverine and Star Wars), maybe the "Blomkamp-movie" is the best chance to cut off those dead limbs "Aliens 3" and "4" turned out to be - and the dreadful "Prometheus" with them, too....

Not everything needs a sequel. District 9 was awesome. I rather they just leave it alone there. Remember how awesome the Matrix was? It was ruined by sequels.

I'd be up for another Alien movie. As long as its not another reboot. I'm kind of tired of those.

How come everyone is 'ragging' on Alien3 and Resurrection when you could be directing your anger at the cultural tragedies that are AvP and the frankly soul (as well as franchise) destroying AvP Requiem?

Those movies don't exsist. Alien 3 and 4 are just bad.

Personaly i don't mind AVP (modern day earth makes no sense, but we got Lance Henricksen in it, so that balances out.)

AVP Requim is those "take a monster/slasher from earth and put it in spaaaace" type of movies but in reverse. Xenomorphs don't work on present day earth.

As much as I like me some Xenomorphs.. predators are just cooler. But if it makes you feel better: it was very close.

Predator 2 is a very, very under-rated movie. And even if it did deserve to be under-rated it's still MILES better than Alien 3, Alien Resurrection and Alien vs. Predator... combined!

Agree. That one scene on the ship near the end. It did Aliens vs predator better than AVP and AVP II did! (Combined!)

Those aren't really good examples. Different mediums and time travel. Think of this more as a Superman Returns kind of situation.

Star Wars hasnt really had any mass decanoization fits.

Now as far as the Alien / AvP / Predator / Prometheus universe canon works it was recently reconfirmed. What I mean is what is excepted as canon. All games , novels, comics, and movies are still canon. This was confirmed by Sega, and in mid 2014 by Darkhorse. DH is working on 4 new comic series each titiled after the names of the four movie arcs of the saga. They were asked if all past ALIEN, Predator, AvP comics were canon and if the AvP movie was still canon after Prometheus came out. The answer was yes too all the above BUT they wont be revisiting the stories written in the past. This is ok because those stories written in the past were ment to be stand alones.

Since some people made a list of their fav too least fav movies in this saga I will do the same.

This is my most fav to least fav and IM incuding the three games that are counted as direct sequels to two movies. If a story has the same number as another story above and or below it that means its TIED.

Yeah, whatever the licensees say has little affect on the licensor. Just because Sega or Dark Horse say one thing, is not the same as Fox saying it.

It does when they are given permission by fox to do so, which they did.

Edit Also the behind the scene material on both the quadrilogy and blu-ray saga sets shows, writes about what is and isnt canon along with the requirements DH must follow from FOX /Brandywine when it comes to writing stories. Its makes very very clear that anything not a movie, comic, game, or novel is just merchandise.

Wich doesn't work because I have at least on novel in wich Ripley, Newt and Hicks don't crash (and die) on a prison planet.

Also the end of Prometheus doesn't add up with what we see in aliens.
