Interesting Episode VII Info

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing

Yep. People were talking about this in a few other threads.

Interesting nitpicks I have with that article.

Star Wars X-Wing is a miniatures-based dogfighting game in space. One player or team controls one faction, be it the rebels or the alliance, and a second player or team controls the other.

Rebel or Alliance. Dat typo.

I don’t think there will be any new Episode VII content coming to the other Star Wars game Fantasy Flight makes, Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Apparently they forgot or don't know about Star Wars: The Card Game and the 3 Star Wars RPG's. Yes, there's the reskin of CIA vs KGB as well but I can't see anything new coming to that.

Star Wars Armada, a more tactical dogfighting game than Star Wars X-Wing, could also see some new ships being added to it. Star Wars Armada focuses more on the big ships and massive space battles found in Star Wars instead of the smaller one-on-one fights found in Star Wars X-Wing.

I feel like X-Wing is more tactical and Armada is more of a strategic game based on the scale of the battles. Am I wrong?

Armada is still in the tactical category. Strategy is more higher end stuff (troop movements, logistics, overarching battleplans). Armada is about relatively small fleet engagements.

Maybe, but armada isn't released yet

Technically, in order to qualify for "Strategy" over "Tactics" a game has to have a campaign system, with multiple battles, and persistent fleets or some other form of effect from one game to the next.

Basically -> Tactics wins battles, Strategy wins wars.

They also mention FFG doing "incredible Star Wars board games," which technically isn't the case, since they don't have the board game license.

True, but most people would consider something like Imperial Assault a board game, but it's technically a miniatures game.

Board games as the license dictates is actually stuff like this:

Yet, Descent is considered a board game...

They did some legal trickery to get Imperial Assault made.

i actually have a conspiracy theory regarding this info.

the first, is that the reason falcons have been non existent is that they've been working on a new model (dish) and new cards for it. this might also encompass the "something for the x wing is coming" line we've seen tossed around a few times.

Do we get an old man Solo Pilot card?

Jedi mind tricks.

No it's stuck in a shipping container ffg have released a statement to that effect stating the reprints and armarda have been delayed by the dispute.

I would say that squad building and pre-game plan is strategy. The tactical part is the execution of that plan.

For some reason I'm seeing Homer Simpson trying to trick Wiggum by telling him "It's a ring toss game!"
