Edited by HansHoekstraIf you are playing with 3 heroes, each hero gets the "heroic" card.
If you are playing with 2 heroes, each hero gets the "legendary" card.
As for "best" combo, I don't believe there is a "best", only difference in strengths and weaknesses.
As Fizz said, it's all up to strength and weaknesses, and what the Imperial player pits against you.
The best combo is the heroes abilities you like the most and play according to their strengths. There is no "best" combo.
One way to look at "best" though would be extra activations... Garkahn can charge attack, brutal cleave, then attack a third time, Jynn can interrupt, and then Gideon can give out an extra action... I'm not too sure what Dahlia can do, and I don't think neither Mak or Fenn get "bonus" actions...
Mak can get a free interaction action with the right upgrade, which is very useful I think.
Fenn can give away free moves every time he activates for 1 xp.
Fenn's Tactical Movement ability is shockingly good. If he uses it on himself, he can move 2 squares and double attack without straining himself. Or he can double move and double strain to move 12 spaces in a round. Or move up to 8 spaces and still attack.
It just gives him so much flexibility, it might be undercosted even without the ability to give the movement to an ally. But all of the heroes have some really cool abilities.
Maybe others have had a different experience with him, but Mak has always been underwhelming to me. There aren't enough situations where his high accuracy becomes a huge advantage. With the round limits on so many missions, he needs dramatic weapon upgrades. Otherwise, he's just not worth the activation.
Was about to comment on how Mak's ability to gain 2 pierce when attack was causing me several problems, when I decided to look him up first, there I discovered that he actually needs to out of line of sight to the figure he is attacking, **** rebels have been playing me wrong!
Mak loves his Shadow Suit. (Loose Cannon reward). Also shooting through figures....
Edited by KrankensteinMak starts off underwhleming, but becomes a nigh-impossible to target, long range sniping machine later in the game.
Ya, Mek has easily solo'ed any Turrets that I have put out as an Imperial player. 2 pierce almost ignores a black die (4 of 6 faces does absolutely nothing), has as long of a range as the turret itself with a couple upgrades, and most importantly can't be shot by the turret most of the time (when is a turret getting a chance to move up to within 3 spaces of Mek? only with mulitple officer support, and then he can still move out of the way). I pretty much have to rush him to really do anything, but of course Diala and Gharkaan are there.
The Rebel I fear the most is Finn . My buddy has hes cards/weapon fixed in such a way he is consistently doing 5+ damage (more if hes focused!) on one shot.
It really is getting hard to coordinate all the stormtrooper funerals, and because of him we're getting less recruits. Might be time to Implement an Imperial Draft...
Edited by slaptacIn our play group, Finn is a beast, with lots of HP the ability to add one white die to his defecne and a good ranged attack (as well as slight self healing)
Garkhaan should be nicknamed "the Destroyer", because nothing stands in his way once his dander is up (if he takes 3 damage). Charge and Reach are a bad combination for his ennemies
Diala's the more tactical of the three rebels our group uses in that she usually slips in to give that last hit, or to move someone out of the way. She doesn't do a lot of damage, so she has to TCB in other ways.
remember that Mak is out of LOS if he is more than 4 spaces away.
I think Mak, Fenn, and Gaarkhan are very, very powerful. I could go a few way on who makes a great fourth, but I'd lean toward Diala or Gideon.
Mak's Pierce 2 is so so strong in the Campaign, since many of the weapons either don't have Pierce or don't do great damage. He fixes this so you can simply focus on high damage weapons.
When I played Fenn I got the Level 3 gun with +6 Accuracy and RR attack dice and "Trench Fighter". I was consistently doing 8-10 Damage a shot AFTER defense rolls if I was Focused. Which was easy since I got the Lvl4 card that lets him move and focus himself for a strain... He can definitely do some serious damage late game. One-shotting Royal Guards is fun =).
Of course, Mak is also beastly with the Pulse Carbine...
My favourite 3-man is Garrkhan, Jyn and Gideon.
Having said that, as a predominantly Imp player I will say this... Diala's Force Throw is a game changer. Big time. Diala's hero card is good, not amazing. Her hero upgrades can REALLY swing things in the Rebel players favour.
