Imperial 4Int List (post-scum)

By Eruletho, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was doing a ton of thinking about Imperial versions of my old 4X lists, using the new toys coming in the Raider to basically turn Advanceds into X-wings but dodgier. As I re-designed the list, it started naturally adding in interceptors, first just one, then half the list, and before long I was at an all-interceptor version of the original list.

Turr Phennir (25)

-Veteran Instincts (1)

-Auto-thrusters (2)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)

-Auto-thrusters (2)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)

-Auto-thrusters (2)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)

-Auto-thrusters (2)

100 total

4 highly evasive pilots with a total of 12 attack dice. Turrd should be able to out-maneuver most other pilots, and I have enough attack dice that poking a phantom through it's 4 green should be possible. For reference, here are the other lists I came up with that led to this one:

Vader w/ title and Adv Targeting Comp, 3x Storm Squadron w/ title and Accuracy Corrector

Basic 4X list (one ace, 3 middling generics) that puts out consistent damage

Vader w/ title and ATC, Turr w/ Auto-thrusters and VI, 2x Tempest Sq w/ title and AC

This swaps one generic and the PS of the other two for another PS9 guy, this one highly maneuverable to serve as a flanker to the 3 Advanceds

2x Storm w/ title and AC, 2x Royal Guard w/ Auto-thrusters and PTL

2 advanced to throw down the middle with consistent hits, 2 interceptors to arc dodge lower pilots and throw dice at phantoms

Why not 5 x Alpha Squadron Pilots w/ Autothrusters?

As amazing as auto-thrusters can be (and they are amazing), I'm not sure I could forgo PTL on most interceptors (Thurr being the exception, so kudos)

The thrusters will make up for a lot of their frail defenses relative to cost, but you get into range 2 of arced ships and you're back to being a 3-red tie fighter.

I would break two RGPs down into auto-thruster Alphas (+8 points) or the PS 3 variant (+4 points) and slap on PTL on the remaining one and (if applicable) promote him either Carnor or Soontir.

If you went with 5 guys, you can spread out and cover a lot of areas as there is no real need to stay together (other than ensuring you can concentrate your fire). If your opponent goes for someone, they can probably bug out and get out to there pretty fast while the rest of the team shoots at them. I'm thinking a 5 straight and a boost gets you pretty far.

Also, Kir Kanos can probably get away without PTL as long as he has Autothrusters.

You mean HAS to, since he can't take an EPT...

4x Sabres with AT and PTL. I just might use a similar list in League play.

sad und true

Not even Auto-thrusters can address the fact that his ability doesn't even add as more damage than taking a focus :(

But Lorrir...Lorrir's not looking too shite

I agree, that PTL should not be discarded. I also think low PS interceptors like sabres and alphas are generally not worth it. I honestly don't think 4 int lists are viable, as you want PTL, Autothrusters and RGP, at a minimum, and you cannot fit that into 100 points. my 2 cents.

the arc doginess of interceptors is far less useful if you have to move first. I generally like generics, but I've never had success with low PS interceptors, and running them without PTL seems to hamstring them too.
