Can I get your opinion on buying the Lambda now? your opinion will help.

Myself I'm not a fan of the shuttle. But a lot of people have made the thing really work for them. The Buzzsaw or Doom Shuttle both can be powerful builds if you get the hang of them.

So if you like flying Imperial, and based on your avatar I'm guessing you do. I'd recommend it.

Can someone recommend the best squad builds for the Buzzsaw and Doom Shuttles?

Yes you need one. Why? Cause deep down you really want one or you wouldn't have posted asking strangers to give you other reasons to get one.

I love it, well put.

My hesitation is purely because I don't feel the shuttle belongs in a battle game.

I have been avoiding it only do to the fact that the movie never portrayed it as a combat craft.

I'm 99% positive there's some quote from Sun Tzu that deals with surprising the enemy

And what can be more surprising than an unassuming transport (albeit as unassuming as a giant white shark fin in space can be) unloading hell into the enemy?

I'm not sure there is one. It's like asking what the best squad build is for a Blue Squadron Pilot with an HLC.

The Doom Shuttle fits anywhere that you have a 24-point hole. You're just trading it wherever you would put two Academy Pilots.

The Buzzsaw label can be applied to anything with a Gunner effect and a Fire-Control System. It can actually go on any of the pilots, or anything else that can carry a System and use the Gunner effect (B-Wings, Phantoms, IG88B). The Lambda variant starts at 28 points (32 if you add an Engine Upgrade), so you have 72 points to play with. Just make sure you have a way to either keep things in front of the shuttle, or to keep the enemy engaged while you get turned around.

Currently meta wise one of the best builds for the shuttle is extreme frugality:

Omicron FCS. This CHUNKS large ships.

Omicron Vader. This does very well vs large ships and has some Phantom/Int utility.

Capt Yorr. Niche wonderful support for Phantom vs Phantom or vs decimators and the like.

You can't go wrong with these. All 24 or 23 points for massive upside.

Consider this, the shuttle may not be, necessarily, a combat craft but it is an armed shuttle. Which during war will see engagements. Also, food for thought, many feel the rebellions best combat craft are a bunch of haulers (HWK-290) and freighters (YT series). No verbal attacks please.

All kidding aside, the freighters and shuttle add a bit of diversity to the game which can be very thematic in the Star Wars universe. Over use is what tends to take away from the Star Wars feeling but in tournaments wining is more highly prized than keeping the flavor of Star Wars feeling.

Perhaps but there are common builds that are used.

I wouldn't sweat it so much. Fluff-wise, remember that sometimes the Rebels ambush stuff, y'know? It could be some Rebels trying to attack a diplomat in a shuttle (with a few TIEs as escorts), or a last-ditch rag-tag fleet put together by the Empire on some backwater Outer Rim world, where every ship with a gun -- and a Lambda's got a lot! -- gets rapidly pressed into service.

There's plenty of fluff justification for a Lambda to get in a dogfight. They wouldn't put all those blasters on 'em, otherwise.

also, the lambdas carried high ranking officers... including a certain emperor

Omicron Group Pilot 21

Advanced Sensors 3

Ion Cannon 3

Fleet Officer 3

Tactician 2

Rexler Brath 37

Swarm Tactics 2

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Scimitar Squadron Pilot 16

Advanced Proton Torpedoes 6

What's even more fun than a Shuttle than hands out Focus? One that can shoot at PS8 and also hands out Ion and Stress. When you hit R3, the Shuttle gets PS8 and throws out an Ion token. Next turn the Bomber uses its TL and Focus to drop 5 red dice on the hapless Ioned ship. Oops. And his buddy Brath rolls 4 red dice too, and spends the Focus to flip em all into crits. It's a thing of beauty!

Get a shuttle. Or three. It's totally worth it.

Then thematically don't treat at as one. Battles involving it are convoy ambushes.

It's only the best deal in the game. For 28 points you can get a 3 attack, 10hp ship that can turn very quickly with Engine upgrade and advanced sensors. For 3 more points you can get a ship that helps your squad with stress. They are very good ships.

If all you play is casual i especially reccomend the lambda because it has a different style of play that comes with it also it is imo one of the best looking ships that fantasy flight has released.

You want one because they are dead sexy. Most flown ship in the best movie, rewatch Jedi and just try not to buy one.

You want to. Partially because it's cool. Partially because it's loaded with great upgrades. But mostly because only the best pilots dare to fly the Alabaster Space Bus into battle. And you're among the best, right?

Right?

Woah, woah, woah. Let's not get carried away, here. Empire, New Hope, Jedi. I'll gladly rank RotJ above the prequels (who wouldn't?), but let's...I mean...just...best movie? That's selling it a little hard, man.

Empire is clearly best.

It is pretty interesting that Empire is the popularly picked Episode for "the best one". Especially considering the fact that the good guys lose in pretty much every way by the end. I kind of feel like that is one of the main reasons why it is picked as the best. It's different from nearly every other movie where the good guys always win. That and there is serious character progression, robot hands are freaking awesome, BOBA FETT and the ice planet Hoth.

Man! This thread makes me wish I picked up a shuttle tonight!

There's still time.

If you do not own a shuttle (Or two. Or three) you are seriously handicapping yourself.

My 2 'go -to' 110% fun builds are:

Soontir Fel (PTL/shield) plus 3 bare shuttles. Leaves 3 points but I rarely use these.

(the other build is 4x A-wings but that is not for this thread)

Most fun you can have with your pants on. ;)

It's not all bad, though, because the Doom and Buzzsaw varieties don't really care about a dial that sees more red than a bull staring down a matador (their obscene accuracy is completely action independent) giving you access to some clutch intentional self-blocks and the 0 stop maneuver.

Huh - somehow, I never caught that. For some reason, I read the FCS card as something along the lines of 'perform a free target lock action', but that's not actually what it is.

You just get a target lock independently of an action...so you can do it multiple times in a turn (when you cannot do that with any given action), and you can do it when stressed.

That's...that's some seriously useful information!
