Gold Daggers major weaknesses?

By junkygood, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been playing against an over abundance of lists with any combo of deci, phantom, interceptors and the only counter that has been really effective for me has been Gold Daggers:

2x Gold + Ion Turret

2x Dagger + Advanced Sensors

Are there any other variations of this list that may be better suited to the current meta than what I've listed above?

Well, you could drop the Advanced Sensors for Fire Control Systems, allowing you to easily reroll while freeing up some points for R2 units on the Y-Wings which in turn would allow them to take some more risky maneuvers.

Why Daggers instead of Blues if you're mostly running up against the above-mentioned?

i like:

roark+ICT+nien

grey+EPTbot+ICT+swarm

rookie+stressbot

blue+FCS

first round of combat ohantom is dead or crippled due to PS12 stress and PS 12 ion

One of my all-time favourite lists!

I probably lose with it more often than I win but it's still a blast to play.

The Daggers or Blues question is a toss-up - if you see a lot of 4+ ship builds (which I do) then the extra 2 PS is usually worth it - if you see more 2-3 ship elite builds it's not.

R2s on the Golds aren't as necessary as they might first seem - I usually end up with my Golds doing Do-nuts in the middle of the board with consecutive hard 2 turns while they chip away with Ions so there's rarely any need to K-turn - so unless you're up against a stress build you're unlikely to be too inconvenienced.

Dropping the Daggers to blues, swapping Advanced sensors to FCS, and ditching the R2s gives you 6 points to play with.

You could get all manner of goodies with that - Stressbot and Boostbot might be fun - or some Flechettes for the Blues and a couple of R5s for the golds

"Panic Attack" is a very strong list that is similar and has been going around for a while.

Eventually, you could also drop the Daggers to Blue and add Bomb Loadouts and Seismic Charges to the Y's.

apparently a very similar list (Swap out sensors for Ion cannons) took first at a Wave 5 infested store championship :)

tacticians may also be a fine way to go. They'll rough up a phantom a little bit, absolutely neuter it if you manage to get both (or if stacked with ion), and they'll remove some defensive tech from fatties by denying either the use of evade action (title or ysanne) or restricting their maneuverability by forcing them to preform greens. Also, neither push the limit dash nor push the limit corran enjoy additional stress.
