FFG PUT OUT A NEW TOURNEY RULE PDF PLEASE

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing

My Store Championship next weekend has recently posted that Scum is not legal for their Store Championship.

Updated FAQ is updated FAQ for a reason, they will modify the current rules to allow S&V after store championships are done..

I saw a post earlier, if S&V is released during the championships and the rules are not updated it is not legal for the store owner to allow S&V at the event. FFG is cracking down on tournaments that aren't being run properly.

An official post from FFG?

I would actually be willing to make a wager that no one has seen an official post from FFG that forbids the use of Scum and Villainy lists.

Your Store Championship is Doing It Wrong.

I didn't say it was wrong or right, I'm just letting you know how it is.

No, I know, and my irritation is not directed at you. <_<

I do appreciate knowing that there are stores that are also this confused. I'll probably write another note to FFG today, just for fun; they aren't going to get another chance to roll out a new faction, and an easy fix now could prevent a lot of frustration over the next few weeks.

No worries, I don't plan to play Scum for the tournament but it is interesting that they point it out that it isn't legal. Maybe I'll inquire as to why it's not legal. It does seem odd to me that a new set that comes out during a Store Championship season would be legal since some SC happened already. I would think to be consistent that they would not allow them since prior SC obviously didn't have them. Either that or have SC timeframe be after Scum is released.

I'd previously emailed FFG customer support about the viability of Scum upon release and if it could be used in a store championship.

Their reply was that Scum is legal for use upon release and that stores need to allow them.

"Hello!

Will Wave 6 be legal for use during Store Championship season if they are released before it ends? Thanks!"

Answer:

Ships are available for use in tournaments as soon as they are available in stores.

Now Vorp....you know as well as I do we'll see "Smugglers and Spies" revealed at Gencon. With our Falcons and Shuttles being able to be used by these willy characters.

It's really not this cut and dry, and I imagine this is also why you may get simple textbook responses from FFG for e-mails about legality, but you won't get a wide breadth public response on the issue. There is a reason FFG gives discretion to TO's in these situations.

Consider that we know thanks to youtube videos that the product is available to consumers in limited form. It is within the realm of possibility to show up at a Store Championship with the product in hand. That doesn't mean the store, or even the region actually has retail venues selling the product yet. Right now, that probably means someone spent a ridiculous amount of money to have the product air lifted from another continent. Does this really sound like a situation where it is beneficial to the store owner/tournament organizer to allow for that product to play in their Store Championship? To allow someone who isn't even spending money at the store to use product that their loyal in store customers can't access? It's already hard for these local brick and mortar shops where we all go play to compete with online vendors.

I'm going to a store championship this weekend. If product hasn't arrived, and the TO decides it's legal because some bloke from Aus/NZ flew in with it, I'm probably driving home. I don't much care to participate in competitive games where the players aren't playing with the same balls (deflategate anyone?). If the product arrives on the shelves Friday, then I'm 100% ok with it being legal or restricted based on the TOs whims. If I was the TO, I would make it legal if it was on my store shelves in decent enough quantity for my players to have access, and leave it restricted if my distributor didn't send me much.

They're not released yet, even if someone got it early because a store in NZ accidentally put it on shelves for a short time.

A product is considered to be released when there's a news update on the FFG page saying that it's now available. You will not be seeing Wave 6 this weekend at all, anywhere. The earliest that they'll be available from your FLGS is MAYBE Monday, probably Tuesday, and definitely by Wednesday.

If your FLGS (at least in the US) doesn't have it on shelves by 2/26, they need to have a chat with their distributor (or you need to remind your FLGS to make an order).

In keeping with the Tournament Rules section on Legal Products, the Scum and Villainy faction will be available for tournament play within North America immediately upon its release. In other regions, players should check with their TO to determine which products are tournament legal.

February 20, 2015: The Tournament Rules document has been updated to clarify the matter.
