FFG PUT OUT A NEW TOURNEY RULE PDF PLEASE

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing

Just do all of us a favor and put a new one out that has been updated on page 2 to where it says, "Each player may choose to field a Rebel, Imperial, or Scum and Villiany squad, as tournament seeding ignores a player's faction."

Also you may want to finally add those debris fields that players have had for months into the mix.

It would be nice for people to know if they can or can't use Scum and Villiany in upcoming Store Championships. I personally wouldn't care if someone had them once they are released, but some "Rule Lawyers" are gonna point back to page 2 of the Tournament Rules PDF. To make it even more pathetic those same "Rule Lawyers" would use page 4s "Legal Products" section to say that the upgrades that come with Scum ships would be legal on a Rebel or Imperial list.

Just put a new one out so people can't twist the current one so that Scum ships aren't legal, but the upgrades that come with them are.

I concur. Honestly, though, my TO is a store-owner and I think he's definitely gonna let Scum fly to make sure he can move more product. Good on him!

No need to shout, most likely they'll release updated rules once the faction is actually released later next week.

You know, e-mailing the Official Play might have a better result...

You know that's meaningless to alot of people unless you actually also quote the text.

But it sounds sooooooo cool to randomly quote Bible texts!

Should we be so certain that the debris clouds are meant for other than scenarios? I think it'd be cool to have the option, but wouldn't be upset if we didn't get to see them in tournament play.

We've been using debris clouds for a while now and it's more interesting than just roids, diving through debris can change the course of a game.

You can quote scriptures all you like in a forum, but quoting comic books? Now that's how you start a holy war.

According to fantasy flight as soon as the product is available in stores it is tournament legal so you can legally play scum. As far as debris fields thats cool and all but i'd like to see them make epic ships as obsticals tournament legal just because thats the only time i use mine.

In North America.

Fahrenheit 4:51

The part in the bible when the bible itself starts burning in your hands.

Relevant sections from the current tournament rules:

“All Star Wars: X-Wing™ Miniatures Game components are legal for sanctioned play unless they are marked with the epic icon.”

This pretty much covers the whole “Scum aren’t specifically mentioned’ argument etc.

“In North America, products are legal upon their release. Competitors outside North America should check with their TO to determine which products are tournament legal.”

So outside of America, technically it's entirely up to the TO’s discretion as to whether ships are able to be played. Of course this also means that the TO can technically limit anything they want which seems a little dubious.

Not necessarily, you have to check with the TO, but they might get instructions from elsewhere.

It's just that it might differ on a case by case basis as instructed by the distributor for that country or FFG directly. You can't say that S&V becomes legal in all of Europe at the same time if you can't guarantee that all countries will have it available at the same time.

If S&V is released in Germany before it is here in the Netherlands I could drive for an hour, pick up some new goodies, drive a couple of hours in the other direction and compete with new goodies in an environment that hasn't had a chance to purchase those.

That's what we all want to believe, but you've omitted a key phrase that the nay-sayers are clinging to. Under the Squad Building rules section,

"Each player may choose to field either a Rebel or Imperial squad, as tournament seeding ignores the player’s faction."

Clearly, the intent of this clause lies in the portion after the comma, indicating that players may play whichever faction during a tournament -- nothing is forcing equal numbers of Imperials and Rebels. But as written, Scum & Villainy squads are not an option. That's the line we're waiting to get cleared up in the update.

Isn't it more or less always up to the TO? They can always opt not to run a tournament if there are objections to any limits placed.

For those who don't want to use Google:

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

A better modern translation for "Hypocrites" here might be "D-Bags".
