Shoutout to Applied Perspective

By UnfairBanana, in X-Wing

I've bought plenty of stuff from AP in the past, and am always happy to recommend them when people ask about acrylics. Just from them I've got maybe 30 focii, 20 evades, a plethora of shields, their fabulous templates for both standard and epic ships, the ruler set, every one of their newly designed tokens and more. Today I received the last set I was missing: the critical damage pack. To my surprised, it also came with a set of their tiny target locks - which I've purchased before. Only this time, I noticed something strange...instead of being 1-6, these were 7-12. I dunno if this was a mistake (which would be weird, with them being numbered as such) or if it was a gift to a frequent shopper, but I'm super appreciative and wanted to write up a quick little thank you note to AP.

Fly casual, friends

I just bought a bunch of stuff from them, including their radiant acrylic templates and range ruler. The stuff was delivered in like 3 days! I'm a little bit disappointed in the premium focus/evade tokens, I thought they looked better online than in person, but the mirrored shields and the radiant templates more than made up for it.

At some point I should post a picture of the templates, I was concerned with how they would look. But basically, they're translucent and mirrored at the same time. And if they're on a dark surface, they're tinted purple, but on a light surface tinted green. And that actually changes based on the angle you're looking at them. They're really neat.

That's pretty great. I love their tiny target locks, and would like to see an A-through-F set. I never use the notches to fit them to the ID tokens, though. I'm hoping they create a set of circular target locks (still small) with maybe a targeting reticle design. Hexis, I'm talking at you. :)

I have dealt with AP in the past and they are excellent to work with. All templates and tokens were well made!

AP is top notch, I have several sets of their templates for both XW and AW. Quality gear!

I ordered from AP along with a couple of friends to save on shipping, and they sent me five extra stress token.

They're great.

Another company who is making templates with "Range Aids".

Seems its out of control now.

There is a company in the UK called Eleven Trees Designs that make cracking ones without the "Range Aids".

I will just stick with them and claim the moral high ground.

Asmodi, you seem to be a complete troll with respect to acrylic templates. You must be suffering from some major template envy (if you can afford to play this game, you can afford to buy some templates), must be upset that someone outed you preferred method of cheating (so now you accuse everyone else of doing it), or must be an extremely fun person to play against with your rules lawyering/nazi-ism.

OR, I am completely wrong and you are just a TROLL...:-)

Edit: OR, you profit from the sale of "Eleven Tree Designs" templates, and are trying to shame all your fellow Brits into only buying those.

Wow, this took a quick turn.

Wow, this took a quick turn.

Not if you'd see the other threads he's posting in.

Plus that, at AP you can buy them without the notched range markers, it costs a bit more but it's an option, and one I'll take when I get around to buying a 2nd set of templates.

I love my AP ones, but they're the transparent red, and I'd like to get a set of the mirrored ones.

Or he feels it's a genuine point. Just cos you don't that doesn't make him a troll, even if he mentions it a lot. Just makes him a nag.

As a Brit I'd rather buy from a Brittish company (if nothing else it's less time to wait for the stuff to get to me) so even if he is promoting Eleven Trees for financial gain I'm happy he did so as I've not heard of them and have been thinking about looking for acrylic manoeuvre templates & counters.

How was he cheating?

I'm still a little new to this game and I just bought some movement mirrored templates and a range ruler as well. I get them tomorrow (fingers crossed)

I'm not understanding why they think the lines on the movement templates are cheating. You can't measure with them while you are deciding your move so what am I missing?

Thanks!

Not so much his point that is the problem but the claims he makes to prove it.

Saying that 99% of marked templates are cheaters that bought those templates exactly for this reason is simply not true. Trying to influence the community into banning those templates when there is already a rule in place to help you if you do have a problem with them. Claiming the highest moral ground as if it was unethical to use those said templates is not okay. Then creating a thread to advertise one particular company with templates unmarked when in reality there is more than one.

So I'll make my own bold claim: 99% of forum members that try to discredit two company only to advertise a new one the next day are scrupulous and only do those claim to boost sales of the other company.

I'm pretty sure everyone who's ever beaten me cheated, so maybe he's right! :P

That's pretty great. I love their tiny target locks, and would like to see an A-through-F set. I never use the notches to fit them to the ID tokens, though. I'm hoping they create a set of circular target locks (still small) with maybe a targeting reticle design. Hexis, I'm talking at you. :)

I made these last year for a local tournament series:

There is also an imperial set I need to paint and take pictures of (I traded my painted set to a player who hadn't painted his). Similar with the TIE targeting computer style. I could make them smaller with numbers or letters and Adam could cut some. Email him and tell him you are interested. X-Wing or TIE computer style?

Those are pretty neat...I think it'd cause some confusion, though. It may look like the targeting computer, but it may not be entirely obvious what it is at first because it's so different. Also, the fact it says "Stay on Target" would cause an issue, since that's the exact name of another upgrade...Gonna be hard to beat those tiny locks :P

Those ones are one-off promotional items that were participation prizes at a tournament in Minneapolis last year. We did a whole series of tournaments between GenCon and Worlds. Each store level event (Sector nnn) had a unique participation prize. Then the series finale Quadrant event had a big one (range 1 and 2 ruler styled like a light saber hilt and blade). We are working on a whole series of Quadrant events in multiple regions this year, not just MN. Think a more casual Store Championship and Regional type thing. Way less on the line, but still good times. We had a great time with it.

The version(s) that would possibly be sold would be smaller and have a number or letter.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR START SELLING THESE NOW

Nope. Like the OP stuff, those are reserved for Quadrant events. Hopefully we will have a whole mess of 2015 Quadrant events. Wanna help organize one in your area?

What are these Quadrant events you speak of?

Quoting from just a bit further upthread:

Sure! I can recruit all the 0 X-wing players I know in my area...

More seriously, there are a few X-wing players here, and depending on the timing--late summer at the earliest--I could help organize and publicize an event. Feel free to reach out to me in any of the multiple forums we co-occupy.

Wanna help organize one in your area?

I'll try to get something going at my LGS.

It's more like getting 4+ stores to to an event each, and one store to do two (a sector and the local quadrant). We had 5 sector events (FFG, Air Traffic, Universe Games, Level Up Games, YMB) and a final big event at FFG to cap the series off. Applied Perspective helped with unique participation prizes for each event: Boost Template, Barrel Roll Template, 2x Special Target Lock pairs, Crew tokens (Rodian and C3O) and the range 1 and 2 rulers.
