Starship Combat Hex Tiles

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I just wanted people to see what I've been working on for the past few weeks. Its a hex-based system for use in Starship Combat in my new campaign and first Star Wars RPG Campaign under the FFG system. I hope to be able to use this at some point to revive my Dragon Squadron Campaign under Age of Rebellion:

This is a general overview. I have just over 40 of the hexes completed, and will be adding asteroid hexes, an a large 9 hex planet.

This is a closer view.

Each piece has been laser cut so they are all the same, and fit together perfectly.

I received the pieces in raw timber, and so undercoated them grey, and then painted them black. I then used white paint to "flick" onto the black surface to give the illusion of stars.

Each hex will be a range band which does work with the current system very well.

I'm yet to decide on the scale of the minis though. I may just revert to counters as the X-Wing (and even WOTC) minis are just that little bit too unwieldy.

Nice Work GM Hooly.

That is a great idea

Here are some more of what I'd call my finished product:

The starship minis that I've decided fit best are the Galoob Micromachines and the WOTC Minis

The vehicles are just carboard print outs on GW flying bases.

Those are pretty neat. I also really like your force point tray there - did you insert little magnets in the ones you had, or did you print off the pictures to attach to them? That's the idea i'd like to snag more, tbh.

OK, so this is my list of stuff I used:

The Force Point tray is actually a magnetic whiteboard. I printed the image used as the background on two sheets of full page labels and stuck them onto the board. I then created my own 1 inch token size stickers which I printed out on the same 1 page label sheets, then cut them out with the 1 inch craft punch. I then applied them to 10 1 inch magnetic markers.

Here are the images that I used:

I did this to make it easier for the players to see (since they are looking at the GM Screen anyway) and is a constant reminder to use them.
