Now, it doesn't say if it's just X-Wing or what, but if the license covers one thing, I cant imagine that the FFG lawyers didn't make sure to cover everything else, too.

FFG might be in a sweet spot here. . . .

With all of the Star Wars related products that FFG is pushing out, this could be used across the board. Any new ships could be used in X-Wing (not to mention as additional ships in the RPG system). Characters could be used to expand Imperial Assault. Any number of combinations of locations, characters, vehicles, plot points, etc could be used in RPG sourcebooks or as themed expansions for the card game.

I didn't doubt it, but I'm so happy to hear it.

Not only because I'm drooling for Ep VII stuff, but because it adds an air of legitimacy to everything they've already put out. :)

And more importantly, it means that FFG has the licenses for a while, that the Doom crowd, the ones that think the line will be shuttered in the near future can sit down. The company apparently had long term plans here.

This is cool. I'm just a little worried now. There were a number of ships I was shocked not to find in the AOR Corebook. One of those became canon in the Tarkin novel and the intended successor design to another is in Armada but now I'm wondering if FFG was told not to include the others because they aren't making the jump to the new canon. Probably just being paranoid.

And I love the idea of FFG doing Sequel Trilogy stuff. Hopefully the sequel trilogy includes a new successor to the Neb-B or two. I love the Legends Neb-B successor but Frigates are my favorite subtype of capital ships so the more the merrier.

FFG puts out good product. Not just design, but the actual books themselves. They have a great strategy with the splat books/source books/printed adventures. There was no good reason for the Mouse to pull the rug out from under them. Never doubted they'd keep it myself.

FFG doesn't seem too worried about canon at all. We have Force Unleashed references in the AoR Core, so just about anything EU can go into the lines.

If the Episode VII material makes its way into FFG's products?

It will almost inevitably open up its own line of both miniatures games and RPG expansions. I mean, how else are you going to shove technology that is 50 years removed from the invention of the B-Wing into existing products? Answer: You're not.

That said, it would be nice to see FFG expand into both the upcoming sequels era as well as the prequel era...

Personally, I'd love to see a Clone Wars RPG from FFG (even though my heart and soul belong to the OT).

As others have said, this is exciting but totally expected too. We've had references to all sorts so far, so it makes sense that any new content is covered under the deal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this mean a new deal is now in place? As the original one was set to expire at the end of this year I think? Not that it's any sort of surprise, with so many products they're clearly making a lot of money and it's in everyone's interest to continue.

Also if Episode I was anything to go by, I expect there to be absolutely tons of merchandise for Episode VII. I'm sure FFG will pop out some sort of tie-in just in time. But I'm most excited by the prospect of expanding the RPG line in the future, if they do indeed have the licence for a few more years then I'm sure they've got plenty planned.

So what would this look like? If this happens, would it be another Core book for this new era? That seems to be the model. If so, it would need to wait until Ep IX to be released first (imho). I don't think they want a new Core book per movie going forward unless they change their model completely and it's just sourcebooks.

If they wait until the new trilogy to complete to keep with their model, that will be literally years from now. That could be a good thing in my opinion. It allows time for FFG to catch up on all of the career and adventure books for the first 3 Core books before diving into a 4th. It also gives hope to the Clone War fans. With years of releases before the future trilogy Core book Age of Awakening, we could get the Clone Wars Core book. Perhaps the reason we aren't seeing much in F&D along the lines of Jedi and Padawan careers specifically is because they are waiting for them to be released in one or both of these future Core books.

Pure fan speculation of course.

I know this isn't the X-Wing thread, but I'd love to see a mini for The Ghost, as well as official stats for the VCX-100 in the rpg.

Also those new x-wings look snazzy.

Good to know. My concern has always been that some companies look more to the short term than long. With the line getting a huge kick in the ass from the announcement of new movies, I was concerned that some idiots on high would think that a bidding war would be the way to go to make lots of money if the contract was close to ending. If FFG either has a longer contract than initially expected or has renegotiated a longer one or whatever I am completely happy with the result. I would much rather they keep up there fantastic work than not.

I would like to think that this means that this FFG SW Products do have a chance to be considered in the Cannon. Maybe not all of them, but going forward we will see that most of what is here and all the new products are.

Of course, I posted this idea before -

For all we know they (FFG) might have been given some direction on what parts of the EU might become cannon once again and in what way they will be used.

We have heard that one of the Focuses when it comes to the new Cannon is to Mine the EU, but not be limited by it. So we can take it that FFG is doing the same thing.

You can never be sure but my guess is that with the success of this series they have proven they are a good choice for the franchise. Disney really has no reason to look to anyone else.
