Will you be running Scum for Store Championships?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

So as of the current rules, a TO would be able to DQ someone if they show up with a Scum Squad.

Technically you may be correct, if you wanted to argue purely RAW then there's some merit to that, the rules do say you have to field either a rebel or imperial list.

But it also says that all products are legal once released, and there was an email from FFG that I can't find now that said TO's can't actually refuse to let someone use S&V ships once they've been released.

Undoubtedly they'll update the tournament doc and FAQ about the same time that S&V is released.

To be on the safe side, one could bring a Rebel/Imperial squad as backup if the ill-informed TO tries to DQ them.

-using Inertial Dampeners (not combo-able with A.Rush though) is also a good staple

While it AR can't prevent the stress token, I actually like the combo in theory. Pull a K-turn/S-loop (banked or hard). Next turn pop ID to remain stationary. Next turn pop AR to pull off another S-loop. Sure you end up with 2 stress, but turning around, stopping, and turning around again - who does that?!

Scum.

actually want to try some BTLA-4 Ys the thought of 5 red dice slinging Ys is appealing.. however trying to keep stuff in the Ys arc is not..lol

This is where EU comes in.

I'm probably going to play double aggressors for store championships. I think their damage out put and ability to flip around will give them constant pressure against high-PS arc dodgers, while PS 6 will give them positional advantage over generics.

I think aggressors will be really strong at the outset of this wave before people become familiar with their attack patterns and how they fight.

A friend of mine pointed this out to me the other day. Unless they update the Tournament FAQ it says that each player fields a Rebel or Imperial squad. Well I understand that the last FAQ was released before scum was even announced he has a point. Rebel or Imperial not Scum. Although a argument can be made for FFG's policy of once it's announced on the homepage it is legal. But it leaves a big question of if it is or not.

I will be very surprised if FFG does not release an FAQ update within the next seven days that addresses this issue, among others. They still need to spell out what happens to ships with the IG-2000 title when another ship with that title is destroyed, to confirm whether Feedback Array can be used while touching, and I'm sure they'll also use it as an opportunity to pass out some stealth buffs/nerfs to other ships and combos.

Frankly, I'm surprised that they haven't posted any news yet this week. I know yesterday was a holiday for most of the US, but today's a new day.

An updated FAQ is definitely required. Make Scum legal for Tournaments, possibly update so Debris Fields are legal, IG-2000 title not just if they 2nd ship is destroyed but what about just an injured pilot.

If the goods arrive in time, this is what I'll be running on the 28th. I've been practicing with large base ships and it's certainly taking me out of my comfort zone, but these guys are gonna be really fun.

I'm not convinced they'll do well for me, but honestly, I'm about as comfortable with them now as any other ship (because I fly so rarely). My biggest problem is damage output, but I'm working on ways of mitigating that issue ...

Unsolicited suggestions: Bombs. Cannons. Predator Elite Talent for rerolls even when you're stressed or bump another ship. Advanced Sensors to Focus or drop a Proximity Mine before your Segnor's Loop. Or Fire-Control System. That's also a good option.

...If you boost or evade with [Aggressors], your damage output will really drop.

The same thing happens on a red maneuver, unless you bring Advanced Sensors. In my experience they're really action-hungry.

The rules simply say all components are legal, meaning you can use any cards released are legal for use in tournaments as long as they are used by a Rebel or Imperial squad. Maybe FFG never intended Scum to be a tournament faction and they are limited to casual play only.

That's ridiculous.

You can't say that it's clear to you that the context is that you aren't restricted or they wording would have been "Field a single faction" or something along those lines.

When the current tournament rules were published, "Rebel or Imperial" had precisely the same meaning as "any faction you want". In context, it's clear that's exactly what it does mean:

The wording they use is very unquestionable, "Each player may choose to field either a Rebel or Imperial squad, as tournament seeding ignores the player’s faction". So as of the current rules, a TO would be able to DQ someone if they show up with a Scum Squad.

Or, to paraphrase: "Tournament seeding doesn't care about your faction, so bring whatever faction you want to play."

I usually travel with most of my minis anyway, and playing an Imperial or Rebel list instead wouldn't be much of a hardship. But your argument seems to be that FFG had the intent of spending months promoting a new wave of ships which will very soon be widely available, but will actively prevent people from playing those ships in sanctioned events. It's nonsense.

I will be very surprised if FFG does not release an FAQ update within the next seven days that addresses this issue, among others.

Seven days seems soon, but I'd expect one as soon as they can manage it.

They still need to spell out what happens to ships with the IG-2000 title when another ship with that title is destroyed...

They need to clarify more generally that a ship that's no longer in play is out of scope for all effects.

...to confirm whether Feedback Array can be used while touching...

Why wouldn't it?

Bombs? check.

Cannons? check.

Advanced Sensors? don't have any.

Predator? don't have it.

I think Fire-Control System would be great, but I only have one. Personally, I'm quite digging Accuracy Correctors and "Hot Shot" Blasters. Though I'm torn between the "Hot Shot" Blaster and Inertial Dampeners.

RE: FAQ, seven days only seems soon due to the status change between "on a boat" vs "on shelves." They've had months to get the FAQ and tourney rules sorted for this release. The document itself should already be prepared to publish.

As noted, there's lots of stuff with the IG-2000 that will need clarifying. Destroyed ships, Injured Pilot, etc.

As far as Feedback Array, it seems clear to me that it's usable while touching. It seems clear to you that the same applies. However, someone out there is going to try to rules-lawyer this and say that you can't use it because you can't make attacks against adjacent ships, and it'd be nice to have an FAQ entry specifically stating "You can use this while touching. Don't say you can't use it. You're stupid. You're stupid for making that argument."

It's tough when certain Upgrades pair obviously well with ships but aren't in the same expansion.

I only have 1 Advanced Sensors currently. I want at least 2. I plan to pick up 2 Lambdas eventually.

I have 1 Predator. I want at least 3. I don't know if I want 3 Defenders.

Welcome to FFG's entire business model for X-Wing. It's been like this since Wave 1, when the best generic astromech for X-Wings only came in the Y-Wing expansion pack. Or when the best EPT for Interceptors came with the A-Wing. Now the best mod for Interceptors and A-Wings is exclusively in the StarViper expansion, and the best Illicit mod for Z95s comes with the IG-2000. Just wait until the Raider hits, and the best upgrades for the TIE Advanced come in a $100 ship.

At least now you have the option to pick up E-Wings for Advanced Sensors, though the Lambda is amazing for other reasons.

Oh definitely. I've known about this since I got into the game (Wave 2 was already out). Here's another one for you. Engine Upgrade only being in one of the 2 most sold out ships in this game.

While I like the E-Wing, I don't see myself getting more than 2 and I'm fairly content with 1 for now. Definitely grabbing a couple Lambdas for some Albino Space Bison fights.

Welcome to FFG's entire business model for X-Wing. It's been like this since Wave 1, when the best generic astromech for X-Wings only came in the Y-Wing expansion pack.

I'm not sure this was on purpose, though. The Y-wing is the ship whose dial needed more help, and it makes sense to pair them up on that basis.

Or when the best EPT for Interceptors came with the A-Wing.

Until Wave 4, it was the best EPT for everything.

Now the best mod for Interceptors and A-Wings is exclusively in the StarViper expansion...

They had to package it with something, and the StarViper is the cheaper of the two ships in the wave with boost.

...and the best Illicit mod for Z95s comes with the IG-2000.

Feedback Array makes a lot of sense on a Large ship, particularly one that might struggle to make sure its opponent is in arc. It's also attractive on a cheap, disposable fighter, but Most Wanted already has a lot of upgrades in the box.

Basically, in hindsight and as the metagame adapts, there are a lot of upgrades that could have or even should have been packaged with other ships. But I think it's a bit pessimistic to assume it was done on purpose to frustrate gamers or get them to sink extra money into minis they don't need; Push the Limit was reprinted (and doubled up) in Imperial Aces, the Raider has four copies of the Advanced upgrades, Autothrusters is doubled up in the StarViper blister, etc.

I think they're trying to do right by us, for the most part.

Yeah, this is exactly the reason I dropped off after wave 2. It was just too much for me, especially when the LCG gives me a full play set really easily.

But with the advent of Scum, I just can't stay away. But rather than pine over the cards I don't have, I'm just gonna enjoy playing with what I've got. And if that means the IG-2000 only uses cards from its own box, so be it.

I'm not sure this was on purpose, though. The Y-wing is the ship whose dial needed more help, and it makes sense to pair them up on that basis.

Except that the X-Wing came with the R5, which only really has value on a ship that actually has the hull to expect the crits like the Y-Wing.

Plus, from an design standpoint: X-Wings typically use domed astromechs like R2s. Y-Wings used non-domed droids like R5s. So putting the domed R2 astromech with the non-domed ship was clearly a way to push people to buy Y-Wings!

There is a store tournament scheduled the first Sunday of march (so the first of march.)

Thing is wave 6 should be out by then.

I'm probably going to play double aggressors for store championships. I think their damage out put and ability to flip around will give them constant pressure against high-PS arc dodgers, while PS 6 will give them positional advantage over generics.

Double Aggressors have been played in several rounds if the Vassal tournaments on List Juggler, and are performing poorly. I expect they need the same thing that any double Firespray list needs: a third ship. Save some points and throw in Serissu or NDru. I'd take care not to overload them with upgrades. They will be plenty versatile with just the title. I'm thinking Push and Dampers with a third ship, or VI , dampers, and Autothrusters. Just a thought. I do think of all the upgrades that they can take, Dampeners is almost requisite. Add one more quite useful option to their overall jankiness.

I've been playing a scum list on vassal for months now (over 40 games with a list). So my answer is YES YES YES!! My next SC is the 28th, so I hope I can use scum at it!!

Since I won't be purchasing any of wave 6, my answer should be fairly obvious.

I'm buying at least one ship, thank you sir!

My favorite store championship is this Saturday (depending on the snow) and I'm eager to go with my Tie Bomber list. It's great at blasting Big Turreted Ships, but not so great at any other list. I'm expecting about 75-90% of the tournament lists to have BTS. I'll have to see how my Tie Bomber list does.

Once S&V comes out, I'm not sure. I'm thinking the BTS will drop to about 50%. So, maybe it's not worth taking. I won't have much time to practice before the next Championship, especially as I'll be at Disney for a week. So....do I switch? I'm not sure. Maybe depends on how I do at the one this Saturday.

What about an Imperial list with Mangler Cannons? I can see Imperial Kath get used more. Same with Krassis. Maybe throw in some AutoT Interceptors? I dunno....it might be more fun with new Scum. If I went with a S&V list, it would have to deal with BTS, though.
