Keyan Farlander and Friends

By Palomarus, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have been running the following squad with very good results!

Keyan Farlander B-Wing : Advanced Sensors, Push the Limit, and Heavy Laser Cannon

Blue Squad B-Wing

Bandit Squad Z-95s x 3

Run the Z's out front to block access to Keyan and the other B.... And Keyan in this set-up is a real beast. Adv Sen and PtL let me Barrelroll/Target lock for the stress I need each round to key off Keyan pilot ability (when attacking you can remove one stress token to turn all eyeballs to hits).

In the six games I have played so far Keyan has only rolled less than 3-4 damage once that I can recall!!!

Want to take this to my Store Champs in two weeks... But I have yet to run it against a Phantom Decimator list or a Fat Han.... Not sure how it will do against them, or other lists not normally in my Meta.

No int agent? Disappoint!

Mostly kidding. As long as you have your blocking down proper, that list is going to be brutal. Keyan can be built very convincingly for either overwhelming firepower (easy stacking of his ability plus TL) or mobility (which is how I personally favor him, because the idea of a mobile B-wing is too funny to pass up)

sadly, not my idea (totally stole from these forums :))

Keyan

*Stay on Target

*Advanced Sensors

*B/e mod

**Intelligence Agent

36 points total, 43 with HLC

you get the same stacked offense as ptl, minus the flexibility of being able to target lock after you've moved (or to stress yourself if ioned)

I had considered your build... Just like the flexibility of PTL better!

And to be honest if I go the B/mod route... I would lean more towards Tactician. I tend to be a more aggressive player and stressing my opponent seems better for my play style.

I'd have to agree

Your build compensates for the lesser maneuverability with added punch and more blocking bodies

I do hope you kick Wave 5's ass, but a lot of it's going to come down to how well you can fly your squadron in the hopes of penning in a phantom. The ships included should not have too massive an issue piling on decimators.

Thats what I am hoping, and I don't feel like a Fat Han would be too much issue. I honestly out gun him... And the extra B to the z escort will help me come out on top of the escort battle with Han, but we'll have to see!

I have actually considered dropping g the third Z and adding HLC and Adv Sensors to the B and upgrading to a Dagger Squad. But I am not sure the extra punch in the B will replace the Z as another road bump for my opponents. Like you said the extra Z will really help me hem in a Phantom!

My only problem with lists like this is you give your opponent an obvious target. Clearly he has to kill Keyan. Not only is he your most offensive ship, but he's also nearly twice as many points as the next closet ship. It works for Fat Han, because he is really hard to kill. A B-wing not so much. Most lists can focus down a B-wing in 1 round of combat at closer range. After Keyan goes down you got a B-wing and 3 Zs. I'd suggest throwing the HLC on the Blue squadron. It better distributes the points in your list and makes both Bs deadly. Keyan will still get pretty good attacks by being able to TL + Focus most of the time.

I really like Ficklegreendice's mobility build. I think I would run:

Keyan

+ Advanced Sensors

+ Stay On Target

+Bwing/E2

+ intelligence Agent or Tactician if you like (36/37)

Tarn Mison

+R7 (25)

1x Tala Squadron

2x Banditos

(98/99 Points total)

This way you have another target to draw some fire off of Keyan and a better late game ship in Tarn. Banditos for blocking obviously. I also like at least one Tala to go with Tarn so that it can shoot first and hopefully strip a shield or two, then Tarn can shoot back with Focus and maybe a Target lock.

I really like Ficklegreendice's mobility build. I think I would run:

It's not mine, I stole it :o (don't remember from where, though  )

I might steal your squad too...

I have run two iterations of Intelligent Farlander. The first was with two Ion Blues, another B/e + int agent pairing, and a Bandit because Farlander with 2 Ion Bs leaves 14 points. The list showed some solid performance against the new interceptors (ideal targets, perhaps?), but the Bandit stands out more than a sixth, incredibly vestigial finger. Maybe I just need more practice?

The 2nd rolled list the bandit into some weird Ibtsiam build that was mostly for fun.

I'm going to try out 3 obscenely buff Bs next with the 14 points rolled into an HLC for Keyan and maybe sensors or tacticians or something for the blues. It goes against every instinct I have, but hey instinct isn't going to fit that prototype pilot into a 14 point gap.

Reading over the above mentioned lists really made me want to brew with intelligence Keyan Farlander in mind. This is what I came up with.

Keyan Farlander (29+7=36)

Stay on Target (2)

Advanced Sensors (3)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Intelligence Agent (1)

Jake Farrell (24+4=28)

Outmaneuver (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Autothrusters (2)

A-wing Test Pilot (0)

Veteran Instincts (1)

3x Bandit Squadron Pilot (12x2=34)

This list offers 3 Bandits to use as blockers for Keyan as Jake maneuvers to flank.

I think this will work out because most opponents will see Keyan for the obvious threat he is and prioritize him and his escort since turning away from so many ships would be ill advised. In doing so they'll allow Jake with Outmenuver to fly through their squadron shooting with a solid pilot skill of 9.

The only thing I wish I could work into the squadron would be prockets for Jake, but I can't find the points.

What about this?

Keyan (29)

Stay on target (2)

B-wing/E2 (1)

NAVIGATOR (3)

Advanced sensors (3)

I removed engine upgrade when i realized I has already used my mod slot.

During planning, pick any red maneuver. During activation, do whatever action seems appropriate and turn you dial to whatever move you want. With the option to barrel roll before or after moving, you should be tough to target, no? Just make sure that if you're picking up a stress, you'll be able to use it.
