The real Rebel Aces

By rmb43, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all. I am trying out a new list, and was hoping for some honest feedback regarding its tournament competitiveness. I am definitely open to suggestions, but the major theme of this list is "shoot first". I wanted as many ships as I could get at PS 9 or better. Therefore, this list has 3 rebel ships at PS 10, and 1 at PS 9. Firepower is low, but if I can focus fire and take a ship off the board, that's fewer return attacks. Here it is:

Horton Salm w/ R2D6, Veteran Instincts

Airen Craken w/ Veteran Instincts

Tycho Celchu w/ Test Pilot, Refit, Veteran Instincts, Expert Handling

Jake Farrell w/ Test Pilot, Refit, Veteran Instincts, Push the Limit

Swarms (especially BBBBZ) seem like the big problem here, but I think this squad has a solid chance against Phantoms and big ship lists. I am not sold on the EPT upgrades for my A-wings, but I think this could be fun and different to fly. Thoughts?

I think most anything would be a problem when you're only shooting 2 dice attacks out of only 4 ships. You might catch a phantom (huge might, since only two ships and course correct and said ship is still going to tank at least a few 2 die attacks) but nothing else is going to be very much concerned (especially not the inevitable decimator).

Horton and Chelu in particular are weak sauce here, with Horton getting accurate but puny firepower for his cost and Chelu not even really being able to abuse his ability with only one action per turn.

If you're going to go stir crazy with aces, I do think you'd be better off with one less ship but a more terrifying offense over all with pilots such as Luke/Wes/Wedge, Keyan or Corran or just having protons on Salm or rockets on Jakes if you like to roll that way.

no attack value. craken and horton die early (in that order).

I appreciate the feedback, and definitely agree that firepower is the limiting factor here. The goal of the list is really to run a Rebel version of the 3 Interceptor/Phantom list. Most or all of the ships need to be able to see where the opponent moves, reposition accordingly, and then shoot first to prevent return fire. Maybe a better list would be:

Corran Horn w/ VI, FCS, R2D2, Engine Upgrade

Tycho Celchu w/ Refit, Test Pilot, VI, Push the Limit

Jake Farrell w/ Refit. Test Pilot, VI, Push the Limit

This would have all 3 ships at PS9 or 10, all 3 can reposition, have high agility, good dials, and effectively get multiple actions a turn.

I do like this one a lot better than the last :P

A-wings are still wet noodles, but at least Tycho can hit harder with stacked offensive actions and Corran can sometimes pull the weight of two ships
