Wild Space Outrider, Biggs, and Tycho- What to do with the last four points?

By Squark, in X-Wing Squad Lists

EDITED: Suffice it to say, this list has evolved a lot since I started out, and bears little resemblance to my initial plan. I'm currently trying to decide between these two lists. I'd rather not have to depend on being able to borrow cards for any tournaments, so if you can limit upgrade cards to what I have (see my signature for my collection), that's helpful.

Smugglers United

Han Solo -46 points

-Push the Limit (3)

-Nien Nub (1)

-Millenium Falcon (1)

Dash Rendar -36 points

-Veteran Instincts (1)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

-Outrider (5)

Total: 100 points

I'm not entirely sure about the upgrades in this list. Maybe I should replace Nien Nub* and/or Push the limit for an initiative bid (Which seems important with PS 9 if I end up staring down a phantom build) and a different 3 point upgrade due to less stress management?

The other list trades the dual PS-9 for extra durability

Smuggler Sidekicks United

Chewbacca -42 points

-Push the Limit (3)

-Nien Nub (1)

-Gunner (5)

-Millenium Falcon (1)

"Leebo" -34 points

-Determination (1)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

-Outrider (5)

Total: 99 points

An intiative bid seems pointless at PS 5, but I'm not sure what to do with the last point. Upgrade Nien to Dash or a Marc co-pilot for one of the ships? Borrow an intelligence agent and give it to Leebo?

I'd like to suggest Leebo + Determination but Determination doesn't fit. That pilot upgrade still gets two of your ships moving at PS 5 and gives Leebo some freedom to pick what face-up cards he might take.

Note that Eaden Vrill's ability does you no good when you are running the Outrider; the ability works with the PRIMARY weapon attack and Outrider shuts that down. Now if you cut the Outrider while upgrading to Vrill you could still keep the HLC for forward attacks although your out of arc attacks are now likely to use the pilot ability. He could be interesting with some of those Flechette Torps threatening to stress out ships that might get out of arc.

PtL Tycho may be fun but he just doesn't have much punch which is why you rarely see him played at that cost.

Ah, didn't notice Eaden didn't work on secondary weapons. Well, back to the drawing board.

Hmm.. What about

Wild Space Fringer -30 points

-Heavy Laser Cannon, Outrider, Dash Render (14 points)

Luke Skywalker -28 points

-Lone Wolf (2 points)

Biggs Darklighter -25 points

Comes to 99 points, and has two reasonably durable threats.

I think you'd be much better off with Int Agent than Dash crew

That barrel-roll and base size has some amazing blocking potential, and int agent helps keep that blindspot clear

Hmm... Has potential, but like I said, I don't want to depend on being able to borrow cards.

Well, because of the way things turned out, it looks like I can pick up Rebel Aces tonight in addition to the Outrider. This opens up a lot of options, naturally. What do you guys think of

Wild Space Fringer -30 points

-Heavy Laser Cannon, Outrider (12 points)

Biggs Darklighter -25 points

Prototype Pilot with Chardaan Refit x2 (30 points)

Total: 97 points

I'm not sure what to do with the last 3 points, though. R2-D2 would be nice for Biggs, but that's one point too much, and I don't have a Z-95 to replace an A-wing with. Perhaps I should give the WSF a Mercenary co-pilot?

If you have r2-f2, biggs can take an action to increase his ag by 1 to make him harder to hit. Or you could go with a hull upgrade for more total hp. I think the 2 protos are fine. Fly em and get used to em though, I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. They get smoked by HLC super easy.

Biggs just doesn't make sense here (I'd run Luke w/ R2-D2). You really don't want to run in a formation with a ship that has a huge blindspot, having said that...

You are going to have a hard time keeping any ship out of the range 1 donut hole. Its hard enough with Dash + PTL and engine upgrade. At PS 2, a lot of ships will be moving after you. I would suggest dropping the Outrider title all together. The dial on the 2400 is pretty good. Its not hard to keep things in the front arc, especially with a barrel roll. With the extra 5 points, you can run a Procket on an A-wing.

The idea with Biggs was to keep him close to the Outrider so people trying to exploit the donut hole would have to shoot him instead. But I think you're right- I should practice with the normal YT-2400 before trying to use the Outrider.

Hmm...

Wild Space Fringer 37 points

-Heavy Laser Cannon

Prototype Pilot 15 points

-Chandaar Refit

Prototype Pilot 15 points

-CR

Luke Skywalker 33 points

-R2-D2

100 on the nose.

Last I checked Luke + R2D2 was only 32 points. Add Determination and he's someone your opponent may not want to deal with late in the game.

So... WSF and 2 X-wings?

I've been having fun with

WSF + HLC + Outrider + Tactical Jammer

Biggs + R2-F2 + EI

Garven

so you're defending with Biggs with 4-5 dice with two focus in a range 3 engagement ... offence is lacking a bit though, and you have to keep formation (not too hard though if you're liberal about using barrel rolls).

So, turns out I might have mis-remembered, because the shop I went to had imperial aces, not rebel aces. I'm still trying to beef up my Rebel force before I pick up imperial kits, so I was kind of disappointed. Then I noticed a rather famous kit tucked away on the bottom shelf. Knowing the difficulty I'd have finding it elsewhere, I immediately purchased the Millennium Falcon (Yay, Engine Upgrades and Veteran Instincts!). So, I've updated the original post yet again with the new lists I'm trying to decide between
