Cardboard asteroid down - need acrylic replacement

By Scurvy Lobster, in X-Wing

Am I the only one with completely worn asteroids?

Mine are dented and have lost most of their printing layer due to heavy use.

I dream of quality acrylic asteroid tokens. Have anyone seen something like this?

(I know they wouldn't be tournament legal but for casual games it would be nice to have something durable)

Actually, people used acrylic asteroids at Worlds. They were the same size and shape of the cardboard ones. It didn't seem like anyone had issues, as far as I saw.

I would love to see these at tournaments too - nice to know it was done at Worlds.

I didn't see any at use at Worlds, maybe it was the other flight, but if you got another core (which alot of people have 2 of) you would have brand new ones.

Or you can always try and see if FFG would send you new ones, they are good about replacements most of the time

Will paint stay on clear acrylic templates? I fear it will peel of quickly.

They have a black version (no pictures though).

the greenman designs kickstarter going on right now has acrylic and wooden asteroids. I'm more annoyed by the 3D asteroids people put out there, especially when they don't have the base ones underneath to use. Dash lives on asteroids man!

[...].

It will - unless you give it some structure with sandpaper e.g., then colours hold just fine, finish with a coat of matt varnish.

edit: if you just want to paint them black though, maybe just get black plastic in the first place (and if that turns out to be too light in color, you can still apply the procedure above).

i second checking out the kick starter as they have a range of asteroids from std acrylic to wood to full colour acrylic ones...

I love the idea of the Kickstarter ones but I have to spend more than 40$ to get them... (I already own acrylic editions of everything but asteroids) I can wait and see of course.

They're also available as an add-on. You can pledge at the lowest level, and add the add-on cost and shipping to your pledge. The acrylic asteroids are $12 as an add-on.

What is the kickstarter link?

I am bummed - the asteroids are cool but i thought he was also going to do debris fields as he replied to a question about them I asked on his FB page. Sadly, no debris. I likely won't buy any asteroid until I can get matching sets of debris and asteroids from the same producer (whether it's corsec, greenman, or cog 'o two).

Still waiting on those debris clouds......

I would care more if Debris was toruney legal...Either way that Kickstarter actually has upgraded beyond those acyrlics psoted above to fully painted acrylics apartenlty...thats exciting! :)

One day in the near future though, I bet they will be legal. I am putting money on FFG holding off on a new FAQ until Scum drops, and they can take care of past problems, while bundling in what they know about scum by the time it has hit shelves.

Now here's a nice piece of reward for tournaments instead of tokens or templates.

The only thing of mine that gets worn are the dials from very frequent use. Asteroids don't get handled enough to warrant destruction.
