Critique My Store Tournament List - BOSAAA

By junkygood, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Store tourney this weekend. 60 min. time limit and knowing some of the players, I expect to see a lot of Deci with whisper or Echo lists. I'm not a huge fan of running a meta list, but I'm feeling that Golden Daggers is the way to combat the abundance of phantoms i most likely will face.

Golden Daggers: 2x Gold Squad + ion turrets, 2x Dagger + Adv. sensors.

However, my inner self wants to run this BOSAAA list and I would love to hear some input, critique, suggestions, etc.

BH + Recon

OGP + FCS + Gunner

3x Academy TIEs

I've flown this a few times now and like the feel of three different types of ships. I love recon (2 focus) on BHs with that front and back arc. I think buzz saw is the way to go on the lambda (no EU unforunately) and the mini-swarm can cause a bit of havoc in the early game. Plus, there are 5 ships on the table that can either A) focus on a fat enemy ship or B) block and/or run interference if another ship is in trouble. Also, this list doesnt cumble if one ship gets taken off the board.

What do y'all think? Thanks!

Looks like a solid, well-rounded list. Though from the thread title I was definitely expecting -Wing, [O]uter Rim muggler, [A]-Wing, [A]-Wing, [A]-Wing.

Yeah, I kinda snagged the title name from an old Team Covenant thread it was called BOSSA. (B)ounty hunter (O)micron (S)huttle (S)cimitar (A)lpha Squad.

Okay, so if you're really afraid of phantoms, you want a counter for that and turrets are the easy answer. You have that in the y's with ions but the range 1-2 limit is their weakness. You'll want to keep the B's back to catch anything that slips into that range 3 crack. Fly slow and spread their arcs.

The BH in the BOAAA list will be closest in effectiveness to a turret because of the rear arc but you have to make sure to position yourself either in front or behind the phantoms. It shouldn't be too hard with the firespray's dial, but in order to negate decloaks, don't go at a phantom straight. Angle the BH so most, if not all, the decloak and subsequent maneuver options are within arc. Additionally, the tie squadron will be useful for blocks and focusing down on a ship early. The shuttle might benefit from EU more than gunner since, if you can't turn around fast enough to get a shot, you can't use gunner anyway. Either way flying the shuttle slow is probably the best value you will get out of it. You could also, switch FCS for Rebel Captive, since it punishes your opponent for shooting at your 1 agility ship. Or Vader if you want a finisher. Also, flying the two large ships in and out of enemy arcs will prevent your opponent focusing down one of them. For example, if the phantom will have a shot on the BH no matter what, make sure the BH is out of the decimator's range.

These lists fly very differently than each other, but you will have success if you stick to basics-- fly slow, spread your arcs, block. Fly the ships you want to fly and have fun.

Okay, so if you're really afraid of phantoms...

Well, YOU have made me afraid of phantoms! :) But the only way my BOSAAA list works against phantoms is to effectively block as much as possible (w/TIEs), position BH to rear arc phantom and also hope you hit asteroids, BUT then a wretched interceptor or 2 will probably be busy picking off my un-EU Space Cow. However, the solution to that little problem is to start the Shuttle at a diagonal to have the longest length of the board and then stall, block, move 1, stall, block, move 1, etc. hopefully setting up some quality hits thanks to the buzz-saw.

I don't know. Conceptually I love this list, but play testing against Phantom meta's has proven to be very difficult.

You will most likely not see interceptors. Except for me. lol. Just stay at range 3 and you should be fine. Play defensively, and don't risk saving focus for attacks. Focus fire when you can. You can do it!
