Wave 8 Speculation thread (not really)

By GiraffeandZebra, in X-Wing

So you think this is the end of the X-Wing timeline, that they'll just dig further into obscurity for future waves? To me, "... and going way forward" means only one thing: they'll incorporate the Episodes VII-IX trilogy into this incarnation of the game. Or why else would he say it?

I took "going forward" as meaning it reflected their intentions for the future of the game.

Those new X-Wings better have different pilots and cost a different amount of points. Also they had better not be substantially better than the X-Wings we have or no one will want to use the ones we already have a lot of.

But if they're not substantially better than current X-Wings doesn't that ruin the main argument against ARC-170s?

What I mean to say is that they better have something they bring that can't be used by the older generation X-Wings that is appealing yet won't overshadow anything X-Wings bring to the table.

As an example...

Maybe they have a better dial with similar stats but the downside is they cost more and have different pilots. That way they don't completely replace the original X-Wings.

You better have a better argument that logic and reason, this is the internet!

Okay how's this: because I said so.

I think he would've said "the current state of the game going way forward," not "the Galactic Civil War going way forward."

FFG has stated a few times that the X-wing game is sticking to the Civil War era of Star Wars. Could the new trilogy spawn a new game? I'm sure it will.

The new trilogy could be an awesome way to reintroduce the cooperative LCG, even if it is in a stand-alone model rather than LCG. I'd be all over that. People said it was a LotR clone, but I found it to be significantly different. It's like saying X-Wing and Wings of War are the same. They're the same type of game, but they're quite unique.

Perhaps, if he were writing an article and not speaking naturally.

Would you like to make a wager? I'm willing to bet you a small ship that vessels from the new trilogy will be included in this game.

Think that's dependant on if fans react well to it, if it sucks models based on the movies will not be popular.

I'd be willing to bet any ship with an interesting statline would be popular, regardless of the movie's commercial or critical success.

I'd be willing to get they come out around the same time as the movie. Too big of an opportunity to pass up and wait to see how the movie does.

I dunno. They've shown they work pretty close with the licensor. It is possible they've been in the know and had ship designs in the works for months. And big companies like to align the release dates of products to movies.

At the in-flight report there was mention of having models of unreleased material in the offices that licensors had been concerned about... of all the IP FFG has, surely this would have to be GW or Lucasfilm, and my bet would be on the latter.

Unless they do all generic pilots for sequel ships, you're gonna have weird matchups like Biggs vs Poe Dameron, even though he was likely born after Biggs died.
