Has anyone tried running 4 naked Sigmas? How did it work out? I'm toying with the idea of this, or 1 named and 2 generics...
Thoughts? What ships would you pair with 2 (or 3) generic phantoms?

played against 4 Sigs once.
it seems harder to play than an 8 tie swarm
if you plan to use it, I hope you're super pro
I did run the later, however.
Whisper: FCS, ACD, V.I
Sigma: FCS, Stygium, Intelligence agent
Sigma: FCS, Stygium, Intelligence agent

Whisper's just there because **** if I can't fly Echo. He/she/whatever does add some much needed durability (yes, four green dice with a free focus and potential evade is pretty bloody durable) and some much needed simplicity. If Whisper is glass, then the two Sigmas are gossamer porcelain. You take your attention away and the air disturbed by the movement of your eyes will probably cause them to break.
It is basically the most difficult squad I have ever played, but boy do you feel like a genius when it works.
So, FCS is there because my relationship with RNGesus is a long distance at best. Four dice is a huge number to work with, but it becomes all the more devastating with re-rolls + focus.
Stygium's there because you're flying 30 point Z-95s. That free evade is about the only way you'll feel comfortable taking shots with them. It's also there because ACD is obviously not very effective at improving a PS 3 pilot's durability.
Intelligence Agent is the star. No more PS race to arc dodge, no more dice tosses deciding tied initiative bids. Just get in Range 1-2 and see where the motherfucker's going. If you can't react between a decloak and a barrel-roll, not even RNGesus can save you ![]()
This crew is what makes it possible, imo, to even use these guys. It eliminates most of the guesswork when it comes to deciding when you should block, when you should give up your ability to shoot and cloak, where you should de-cloak, when you should be evading instead of focusing...
Edited by ficklegreendiceI'm currently in a league where unique pilots are going to be very rare; I feel that Shadow Squadrons can make excellent budget "Whispers" considering that the only generic ships with a higher PS are Royal Guard Interceptors.
Shadow + ACD + FCS is only 33 points. I'm not sure if I'd run multiples, but they should perform pretty well in that environment.
Just curious, what's going to make uniques rare?
Edit, just occurred to me that both red and grey squadron can use the skill astromech to for vi, then they'd be ps6... interesting theoretical meta!
Edited by warrior bungalowWe need a specific facility type for each unique card fielded, up to a maximum of 3. Only one league player started with that facility. So high PS's will not be common.
Facility type? I'm totally lost but no need to detail your thread further ![]()
Thanks everyone. I'm admittedly no expert with the phantom, but love the idea and want to explore it a bit more. Any ideas for other anchor ships? 2 Sigmas and...
2 sigma and a loaded vader
Gonna have to wait for the raider, Vader (but he will come out screaming once it hits
)
If you're brave, you can also fit a character defender. Predator Rexlar slots in perfectly with 30 point Sigmas, and Vessery and benefit real nicely from FCS (sadly no room for HLC, though)
40 points could also buy you a 3 tie mini-swarm with a backstabber/dark curse lead, and there's nothing more irritating than academy pilots when you know exactly how to roll to block your opponents...
Edited by ficklegreendice4 naked sigmas is super powerful IF, (and that's a big IF) all four can survive your enemy's shots. Remember, same amount of dice as an 8 ship swarm, except condensed into 4 attacks so it's better against high agility.
I think if you got surviving the initial volley down, you could wipe/severely cripple someone's fat turret in one volley. After that it's just cleanup. It's even more of a glass cannon than interceptor lists, but the cannon is much larger.
