Rules Clarification on Crew Interaction

By Baaa, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi folks,

I've been playing about with a list and have come up with a crew that (on the face of it at least) looks as if it could be fun to play.

However, I'm not entirely sure that my thoughts on the interaction are correct, so if someone could help me out, I'd be really grateful.

YT-1300

Push the Limit.

Nien Numb.

Kyle Katarn.

Millennium Falcon.

Engine Upgrade.

With the Millennium Falcon Title I've gained the 'Evade' icon on my action bar, and with the 'Engine Upgrade' I've gained the 'Boost' icon on my action bar.

Push the Limit allows me to perform 1 free action after performing an action and as a result I gain a stress token.

So far, I'm good, however, this is where I start to get a wee bit iffy. Can I carry out something similar to the following scenario -

1. Perform action - Target Lock.

2. Trigger PTL - Boost and assign Stress Token.

3. Nien Nunb treats straight maneuvers as 'Green'.

4. Remove Stress Token due to Nien Nunb's ability.

5. Trigger Katarn's ability and assign a Focus Token as I've removed a Stress Token.

I'm not 100% that this is legal or a correct interpretation of the card abilities or interactions, so any help would be brilliant.

Cheers

I'm interested as well, I'll be lurking nearby for the answer

Performing a boost is not a maneuver, it has no color, so things that affect maneuvers and maneuver colors don't trigger off of it.

Boost does not allow you to execute a maneuver. Without maneuver, there is no color and nothing for Nien to change. And there is no check pilot stress step. Therefore, even if there were a maneuver with a color, you would neither receive (red) nor discard (green) a stress token.

In addition to that, the boost action finishes before PTL assigns stress. So even if you could remove stress during the boost action, which you cannot, there is no stress token to remove.

All that being said, this is a pretty potent build, even if the combo for which you were hoping doesn't work.

Nien Nunb gives you extra greens, and PTL + Kyle gives you 2 actions and a Focus Token every turn, if you keep doing Greens.

Between TL, Evade, and Boost, you have good quality options for your PTL'd actions.

Thanks for the help and comments folks, it's much appreciated.

The good thing is that Next turn if you move any straight, you remove the stress. Then get a free focus. Allows you to aquire another TL and evade. 3 actions per turn.

Until you get 2 stress tokens in one turn. You can still focus as long as you run green next turn. Still a win.

Even better Kyle is just a free focus. So you could still do a focus action next turn since Kyle is not a "Free action." Tons of options.

Thanks,

I've got a build in mind with this crew and upgrade combo and I'm looking forward to trying it out. The rest of the build might not be what people are expecting, but it's going to be a pain.

it's going to be a pain.

For you or your opponent? ;)

but it's going to be a pain.

Shikimaru agrees.

The only flaw in your plan was that when you get to the Perform Action step to do your Target Lock -> PtL -> Boost, etc, you've gone past the Check Pilot Stress step, so the Stress is going to hang over until the following round. This will require constantly planning a couple of moves in advance. Otherwise, it looks pretty solid, until you have to turn or bank.

Hopefully my opponent, but I'm sure I'll make some huge error that'll push the pain back my way :o

But then getting out of bed is a pain for him :D

Thanks,

When I was writing out the movements and interactions for the OP, I had more or less convinced myself that I was wrong. But I had to ask, in the faintest of faint hopes that it could work.

Now, if only I could get 'Advanced Sensors' on that YT somehow...

Those pesky rules.
