Short games using each expansion board + Deep realms

By John Steed 1, in Talisman

I hate using the expansion boards with the regular game. The regular game boards is big enough as it is. But I wanted to incorporate these expansions in my game, if not to expand the regular game, then to create each board's own little individual game.

Has anyone else besides me used their imagination to create an individual game using each of the expansion boards in addition to the Dungeon board which already exists? If interested in my versions, with or without Deep Realms, give me a shout on here.

Post your ideas! I'm sure people would be interested to see how you arrange it.

Ok, here goes. The Dungeon has its own self-contained rules. Go with those.

For the Highland board, pretty much the same as the Dungeon, as there is an enemy at the end to fight.

For the Woodlands, at the start draw a Path card, and that will be your goal to win the game. (I have the Woodlands expansion on order and haven't received it yet, but I have read the rules on line. I'm assuming all the Path cards have enemies you need to defeat when you reach the end.)

The City gets a bit tricky because there is no enemy to fight at the end of it. So, rather than keep going round and round for all eternity, you pay a gold on the Wharf spot of the board to take an imaginary ferry to an imaginary island where you'll need to defeat an imaginary enemy of strength/craft X (you decide. I use 10). If you defeat that enemy you win. If not, as with all the other expansion boards, you go back to the start. Gold is important in the City, so each character will start with 3 each. Each time you pass the start of the city, you gain one gold, which you can buy a Wanted Poster, or trade in an existing Wanted Poster. In this game, no need to land exactly on the City gate. Just passing it up is good enough. Movement inside city does not change, with the arrows, and in shops to buy stuff.

Using the Deep Realm: This is a great way to incorporate other cards of these expansions which don't get used otherwise. Use one of the DP cards per board. For Dungeon/Woodlands, use the Tunnel Wraith card. For the City/Highland, use the Rat Queen. Set these cards anywhere off the expansion board so you can enter. Set up cards as instructed by the DP rules for Dungeon and City. For the other two:

Highland: Place those four special objects with the red back on the Rat Queen space. You can enter the DP Tunnel, successfully encounter the three tunnel cards, defeat the RQ, and then claim one of the objects. You can do this as many times as you wish. Then on your next turn, roll dice to leave the tunnel back to the Highland.

Woodland: Place 3 of the Destiny cards on the lair of the Wraith. Then proceed as you would for the other boards. After defeating the Wraith, you will draw one of those Destiny cards which will help you throughout the game.

You can also try the Bridge part of the DR card. There is nowhere to cross to, but you can collect some powerful trophy enemies to build your strength/.craft.

Further rules: You may want to up your starting lives to 6 rather than 4, since you aren't strong enough early to encounter many of the cards in these regions.

Limit your character selection to the respective characters included with each region. You can try to cross-region, for example, use Dungeon characters in the City, however it may not work as well.

Two ways to win. Defeat the enemy at the end of each region board, or simply stay alive. Any character who is killed, i.e. runs out of lives, loses. Last character with any lives wins.

Ignore any references to regions on the main board.

This is just an idea of how to use any of the expansion boards without the main one, in a self-contained game. Let me know what you think. Any suggestions also welcomed. :D
