New Phantom & Imperial Aces Help

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi

I have just gotten myself a Phantom and Imperial aces pack and was looking for some good lists with the two. The guy I usually go against plays "big ships" alot with a recent love for a Fat Dash/HLC

I was thinking:

Whisper - Phantom

-VI

-FCS

-ACD

Royal Guard Tie Interceptor

- PTL

AP x 3 - Tie Fighter

With the plan to keep his Dash focused on the APs and Interceptor slightly outside them, then flank with Whisper on whatever else he has then help out the other group.

also had a build with:

Carnor Jax - Interceptor

-PTL

Darth Vader - Tie Advanced

-Squad Leader

Whisper - Phantom

-ACD

-VI

-FCS

-Tactician

I like this list but I find it really hard to keep Jax alive (in other attempts) and worried a fat turret will destroy it, any advice is appreciated

On that second list, I'm not sure how much mileage you're getting out of Squad Leader. All three of those are pilots who are capable of flying out of formation and don't need to be close to one another to really take advantage of their own abilities. Plus, what are their free actions being spent on?

Between Whisper's ACD, usually taking an Evade as the normal action, earning a Focus from scoring a hit, automatically TLing with FCS and then the cloak from ACD, I'm confused as to what free action you may give. Carnor I might understand sorta -- maybe boosting initially then activating PtL off the free Squad Leader action, but again, I think you'd be better off with a different EPT there or some other upgrade on Vader. Plus Squad Leader essentially turns Vader into having one action a turn, which is bad for his survivability.

In the second list, I'd drop Tactician to an Intelligence Agent on Whisper, remove Squad Leader and then maybe throw some Proton Rockets on Vader.

Cheers for the advice, the general idea was vader to stick with Carnor and deal the extra action if needed (turtle up) or keep it if he is in sights or a sticky situation . I will try your extras, the extra punch on Vader might be needed!

For the Last Whisper-Jax build, I use a second Interceptor instead of Vader:

42 Tie Phantom - Whisper (32) Recon Specialist (3) Fire Control System (2) Veteran Instincts (1) Advanced Cloak (4)

Recon Specialist keeps you loaded with focuses and FCS gives you a target lock.

33 Tie Interceptor - Carnor Jax (26) Push the Limit (3) Shield Upgrade (4)

Shield helps keep Jax in the fight.

24 Tie Interceptor - Saber Squad (21) Push the Limit (3)

Having a 4 Pilot skill is decent against Tie swarms and rebel builds with Z95 thrown in. Usually use this guy to run interference and harrassment while I position Whisper and Jax.

You could also replace the last interceptor with 2 Academy Pilot Ties at (12) each.

Best of luck! The Proton Rockets are good for a nice alpha strike on a fat ship. The first list is great, which I neglected to mention in my initial post. Those Academy Pilots can do some mean blocking and reliably whittle down a 1-Agility ship.

Are you just planning on using this at a local game store friendly match?

Cheers, I like it! Any chance to get used to the interceptor a bit more. I tried stealth device on Jax before but bombed so the sure save of shield might be better!

At the moment I have been playing a few months with a friend who got me into it. He mostly stuck to imperials so I played rebels. Now we have sort of swapped, trying to get a few other mates around for games. Yeah I like the first list too, the more ships the better while I'm still relatively new!
