so yeah, 89 tickets (6 reserved for the regional winners and one for last years champ) and they sold out in just over 15 minutes. they really need more tickets.
UK Nationals tickets sold out already
Bah, I don't need to be there to know I'm the best!
Yep, not much notice on the sale time either. Got an email from the organiser 2 hours before they went on sale after a week of no reply.
On the bright side, I did get an email and I did get a ticket. Happy days!
Edited by Erysti believe they are trying to get more space for the event now. i cannot believe they didn't anticipate this seeing as we have been having store champs sell out with more than 50 places.
more tickets up now.
and tickets sold. 121 tickets so a 128 person tournament.
It may be sour grapes talking, but £16 for a tournament ticket plus £25 to get into the event, plus having to travel to Birmingham, plus having to stay in the effing place for a weekend makes it pretty much beyond justifiable for me. Maybe if there had been a Regional anywhere nearby I could hope for a free ticket, but even that is being held in a dumb place and was sold out long before I could even think about booking time off work.
Granted I'm not particularly into the whole competitive scene, but if my heart had been set on it, I'd be pretty pissed off with the lack of venues and player spaces available.

Having dealt with the Expo team for other events there's no choice over how much your event costs unless you go out of pocket for it. Convention Entry is always the big problem with this price wise....but then again where else are you going to pay £41 for a whole weekend of gaming including access to some very nice prototypes of games, a board game library for the evenings, and all conveniently accessible from Birmingham International station.
If you do want to go and have a cheaper time there's a Premier Inn 20 minutes walk away I've been recommending to the Warmachine players. That usually knocks a significant chunk off the price.

LOL, not a brummy fan...? ![]()
I agree the low numbers of tickets is definitely a bummer (i don't have any
) but i guess i'll make a bigger fuss about that when i'm regularly getting into the top 4-8 of regionals (i've only played store champs so far and i list build to have fun/be thematic not be an invincible-action-stacking-meta-warrior) so i guess my fury can wait a whiles... (and i can avoid birmingham for a while longer too... only kidding birmingham take it easy...
)
I didn't even realise they were going up! Boo to this indeed!!
it has been advertised pretty well on the UK facebook group, and there are almost 3000 people on there now, so i think that played a large part in them selling quite so fast.
Got mime in 1st Min. Plenty of notice on the UK x-wing Facebook page and on the expo website
Can't bbelieve it sold out in 13-14 mins tho
also premier inn is only £35 a night

Who the frak still uses Facebook?
Hah nerds are meant to be into the cutting edge stuff ![]()
My thoughts exactly. Regionals haven't even been announced on FFG site yet. I can't have been alone in thinking nationals would be a way out from being confirmed. And facebook. Please, what am I, seven?
seriously guys? my entire family, and the families of pretty much everyone i know uses facebook. it is a fantastic community tool for organising events. virtually all the x-wing tournaments in the UK are advertised and organised on there, and there is an active, friendly community of 3000 people who interact with minimal bull*&^% (unlike here a lot of the time). if you don't use it, it is your loss.
Personaly I found out via Facebook, but I did notice that on the games expo main webpage there is an announcement that the tickets would go live on the 16th. There was also the option to subscribe to a newsletter, although as I was not subcribed to it. Some regional events have already been announced (and have already sold out), but others are taking some time to be announced (I believe due to trouble finding a venue), and while the actual venues were not advertised on the FFG website (to my knowledge) the Regional cut off date was. I believe there was an announcement on the Esdevium website for the Nationals locations, which you can find with a bit of google-fu (ironically, the second hit down for x wing regionals 2015 is from the UK games expo webpage, not Esdevium)
Yes, Facebook is considered unofficial by a lot of people, but it is a wonderful tool for keeping informed about events. There seemed to be several ways to keep in the loop, if you knew where and when to look. Perhaps it wasn't as advertised as it could have been, and I bet it sucks feeling like you've missed out because of that, but instead of mocking people for using facebook for there information, perhaps you can learn from them instead? I found out about regionals and nationals from Facebook, and I was lucky enough to get a ticket. The UK X wing group is extremely active, even more so than these forums, so joining it would be a good idea. The UK Games Expo website is very good for announcements and has run Nationals 2 years running now, so it's a good bet that they will be doing the same next year, why not sign up to their newsletter and see if they announce when tickets are going on sale well in advance next year? Instead of complaining about missing out this year, you can use your misfortune as a learning experience, so you are better informed next year.
As there are people who have not seen the list of UK Regionals, here is a link to the Esdevium webpage which details the people who are running them and the date they will be held.

I hope I haven't come across as condescending or rude, that wasn't my intent, but it is hard to convey inflection over the internet. If anyone has taken offense, then I apologise. I do however hope that some of the information I have put up here has been helpful to people.
I managed to get my ticket without facebook. I got off facebook five years ago and never looked back. Life is much better catching up with people in real life and talking to each other rather trawling through banal posts.
Been to the last two Games Expos for the nationals and watched their website and emailed the organiser.
Expecting people to use facebook to find out about tournaments isn't very reasonable, particularly if you have concerns with how facebook treats your personal information.
