Scum synergy

By Red Castle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

With Scum just around the corner, I started to build some teams to get the feel about the new faction and study the units a little bit, how they can synergise with each other. Here is one that I made that I think could be interesting to fly:

Serissu + Push the Limit + Title/Mangler Cannon + Stealth Device

Tansarii Point Veteran + Wingman + Title/Mangler Cannon + Stealth Device

Mandalorian Mercenary + Recon Specialist + Bodyguard

I think you can all already see how it works.

The Mandalorian Mercenary use Recon Specialist to get 2 Focus and use one to raise Serissu agility by one. Serissu with Stealth Device and the Bodyguard bonus now has 5 agility dice and use Push the Limit to Focus and Evade. Meanwhile, the Tansarii Point Veteran remove the stress of Serissu thanks to wingman, it also has 4 agility thanks to Stealth Device with a reroll from Serissu.

You move with the Mandalorian Mercenary in front and both Scyk in the back. Since they are both firing with a cannon, the defender doesn't get a bonus dice from range. The obvious target is the Firespray, but with 10 hit point, a focus and a reroll, it should be able to take a beating for a while, at least until you are forced to break formation.

I don't think I would bring it to a tournament, but it should be fun to try in a casual game.

It's too bad you don't have one point for tactical jammer on fire spray since the m3a's are behind it anyway.

Perhaps trade one steal device for auto trusters and the jammer.

Overall, it might be fun but a tough / predictable formation to fly. Serissu is super pricey but has more defense than cloaked phantom (not near the arc dodge though). If both m3a's had HLCs, it might have enough punch to even the odds early on, but you'd have to sacrifice some defense to do it.

What do you think of my Scum synergy list:http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/134920-mandal-monsters-scum-list/

The Firespray will be the prority target anyway, so no need for tactical Jammer.

Autothrusters can only be equipped on ship with the boost action.

As for formation flying, flying small bases with big bases can need some getting use to, but it's not that hard. And after the initial fire, you can always make the Firespray go one way and the Scyk the other, Bodyguard is nice but since the opponent started firing on the Firespray, they'll probably try to focus him down. So Serissu should not be the target for a while, and still benefit from 4/5 dice +F/E as long as her wingman is close.

totally forgot about auto thrusters and native boost. You may be right about the firespray getting gunned down first. you have quite a bit of defensive edge and a fair amount of punch. I'm still on the fence about trading don't device for HLCs

I'm not usually fond of Stealth Device, but here I think they have good chances to serve their purpose. Without bodyguard, from one side you have a 4 dice plus focus evade defense, from the other you have 4 dice plus Focus and a reroll. With only 3 hit point, I think you need to help their defense before the offense. Mangler Cannon make them good, especially at range 3 where they get a bonus dice while denying it to their target because it's a secondary weapon, while not attracting too much fire.

If I get rid of the Stealth Device to take a HLC, I think the first target will be the wingman: only 3 hit point, attack with 4 dice and allow Serissu to turtle up. Even with the reroll, it should not be that hard.

Interestingly, it could be fun to do a little bit of both, keep the Stealth on the wingman but upgrade Serissu cannon to a HLC. That should put your opponent in a dilemma: Serissu hit hard and boost the others defense, but thanks to the Bodyguard, Push the Limit and the wingman removing the stress, she defend with 4 dice +F+E. The wingman defend with 4 dice +F + reroll and should get rid of so that Serissu stop using PtL every turn. The Firespray is still the easiest target, but there is now a bigger gun. I like it.

Serissu + PtL + title/HLC

Tansarii Point Veteran + Wingman + title/Mangler Cannon + Stealth Device

Mandalorian Mercenary + Bodyguard + Recon Specialist
