Minimum suggested purchase for Wave 6

By gundamv, in X-Wing

Suppose I only play Rebels and Imperials and have little to no intent of playing Scum. Yet, I want to make sure I have the must-have cards from Wave 6 (e.g. Autothrusters). If so, what is the minimum purchase of Wave 6 that you would recommend?

I'm thinking at least one Star Viper for the 2x Autothrusters. Anything else?

Maybe a Scyk for the Mangler Cannon (should be useful on Dash or Ten) and Most Wanted for the Y-Wing title... at this point, welcome into the Scum faction!

Minimum 1 copy of Most Wanted, as it will have some nice upgrades for Y-Wings and Firespray 31s. I'd get 2.

A couple copies of the M3As, as it will have a few new canons.

And 2 starvipers will net you 4 copies of Autothrusters.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing that benefits Rebel/Imperial players that's in the Aggressor, that's not also in the above-listed fighters.

Frankly, though, at the point where you have 2 copies of the boxes above, you should try out the Scum. You'd have a nice fleet going on. :)

Here's a complete list of upgrades that can be used by non-Scum ships, organized by the packs that contain them. [EDIT: Added reprinted upgrades in italics.]

Honestly you may as well get two of each expansion, at least one most wanted and because by this point you effectively have a scrum modernist get an aggressor because let's face it that's going to be both fun and different to fly.

If nothing else you can learn how they fly in preparation for when you face them with your main fleet.

The Scyk will also have a stealth device, which may or may not be needed, depending on how many Firesprays you already have.

It does? Even better still only getting two though (for now).

Good point! I updated my post with reprinted upgrades, too.

all the things?

all the things

I don't like that I'll have to buy 3 **** vipers for AC atop the raider, but I'll see if I can just borrow locally instead :P

the days of dice tyranny will soon be over!

One star viper and one most wanted for sure, possibly two most wanted. If you play outriders or ten numb the m3a for the cannons. I'm picking up the aggressor for the bombs and I like the idea of it as a single superiority fighter. But my broke guy order is one most wanted one star viper and one aggressor.

Does anyone know also how many redos for the Hwk and firespray come in the most wanted? Just one each?

I want to get 2 HWKs and 2 firesprays so I think I might as well get 2 most wanted.

After seeing the upgrades in the starviper I think I might just get one of those too. And I wanted a syck cuZ it comes with a GG TL token.

Is that list above completely accurate? Seems a little good to be true.

Also the night before scum was spoiled geordan's listed the ion torpedoes as included in the starviper.

That depends on what you mean by "redos".

I'm going by the card fan images, with some reasonable assumptions about the face-down cards. It's as accurate as I can get it while full of Nyquil.

Missed that one. Fixed.

Uhh dials and bases for the HWK and firespray for scum-ization

Uhh dials and bases for the HWK and firespray for scum-ization

Judging from the card fan, two bases for the Firespray and two for the HWK. Though the card fan doesn't always display everything, and certainly doesn't for the Headhunter.

And only one dial each right?

And only one dial each right?

I think it's two Z-95 dials, two Y-wing dials, one each of Firespray and HWK.

[Omitted]

Many thanks for compiling this list. It is very helpful.

Also, somewhat off topic, but does anyone see BTL-A4 Y-wing replacing Corran Horn in some builds such as SuperDash? With that Y-Wing title, the Y-Wing can attack twice in a turn (kind of like Corran), but still be able to attack the following turn. Plus, with the cost savings of downgrading the E-Wing to a BTL-A4 Y-Wing, you could include an additional attacker such as a Bandit or a cheap A-Wing.

Eh, I doubt it. The E-Wing has a superior dial, action economy and pilot skill. Plus sensors and an astromech. Even though it can always attack twice, it'd need a focus action to do it with five die a turn at range 2 (Blaster Turret) or risk getting into range 1 (Autoblaster) and only one agility. However, as you mentioned, it does open up a two-ship escort option, which may outperform Corran.

Minimum for S&V ~$40-$90

1 Slave 1 Expansion pack* ~$15

1 HWK-290 Expansion pack* ~$15

1 Most Wanted Expansion pack ~$40

Already Released If you have these you do not need an additional one*

Optional for S&V ~$15-$165

1 Y-wing Expansion Pack^ ~$15

2-4 MA-3 Scyk Expansion Pack ~$30-$60

1-2 Star Viper Expansion Pack ~$15-$30

2 Aggressor Expansion Pack ~$60

1 Y-wing comes with MW pack. However there are components for an additional Y-wing. Additional model can be found in the already released Y-wing expansion pack.^

Option if you want 2 S&V HWK-290s and/or 2 S&V Firespray-31 ~$55-$85

1 Additional Most Wanted Expansion Pack (required for both). ~$40

1 Additional HWK-290 (for Double Scumhawks only) ~$15

1 Additional Slave 1 Expansion Pack (for Double Firescums only) ~$30

So depending on what type of builds you want, what you already have in your collection, and other things a S&V squadron can cost you anywhere around from $40 to $340

Keep in mind that this range is a broad range for a collection from:

  • 2 ScumZies
  • 1 Scum-wing
  • 1 ScumHawk (assuming you have already purchased a HWK-290 pack)
  • 1 FireScum-31 (assuming you have already purchased a Slave-1 pack)

all the way to:

  • 4 ScumZies
  • 3-4 Scum-wings (assuming you need to purchase 1 Y-wing pack)
  • 2 ScumHawks (assuming you have not purchased any HWK-290 packs)
  • 2 FireScums (assuming you have not purchased any Slave-1 packs)
  • 4 MA-3 Scyks
  • 2 Star Vipers
  • 2 Agressors

Now I don't plan on having that large of a collection (not with my grant income) I am not the one who has 2 of each model. However I calculated my Wave 6 purchase to be around $130 for the ships that I want for my 3rd faction. continue on next post...

...continued from above

Now these are for most viable S&V squadrons but not all of them. Some players may want to make a 7 Ship MA-3 Scyk swarm. Some might want only Star Vipers and Agressors and never pick up a single Most Wanted pack, some might want to field 8 ScumZies and get 4 Most Wanted packs.

So first figure your budget (budget is always important) then figure out what type of S&V squadron you want to fly and plan your purchases from there. Everything is just about spoiled so you should have a good idea of what you will need and what packs to find them.

Also some may not want to play S&V but want the upgrades.

So there's nothing in the IG-2000 blister that you can't get in one of the others (which is good, because those suckers are expensive). The minimum order obviously depends on how many of each upgrade you want. Personally, I'd say something like 1-2 StarVipers, 2 Scyks, and 1 Most Wanted would get you all the upgrades you can reasonably use. (It's also most of a nice little Scum fleet, if you added an IG-2000 in there.)

Also to note that there are some upgrades from other packs needed for Wave 6. If you want proton bombs you will only find them with the Tie Bomber expansion pack and the VT-49 Decimator expansion pack

I'm getting three Starvipers cos I think they look awesome, but I just had a go at coming up with a Rebel list using Autothrusters and I struggle to fit more than two into a half decent looking squad. You'd have to go so low PS that keeping at range 3 or out of arc will be mostly out of your control. Therefore, for a Rebel player I think one will do.

Do you not also get an Autothrusters card in the Aggressor pack?

edit. Hmm, apparently not. I was sure it included the card, must have got it mixed up with the Autoblaster...

edit 2: I'm thinking a minimum purchase of 1 x Most Wanted, 1 x StarViper & 1 x Scyk would cover most of the upgrade bases, however I plan on swapping out the Scyk for an Aggressor. Because IG-88.

Nope it's just the two in the starviper pack.
