What would you fly?

By Jedhead, in Star Wars: Armada

So today I was thinking about flying a fighter from Star Wars (I may or may not have been pretending my car was an A-Wing) and that made me wonder:

If you could pick one fighter to fly and one capital ship to captain, what would you take? Don't think of points cost or effectiveness in game, just pick the options that really make you want to be at the controls/helm in universe. Maybe you like firepower and heavy shields, or maybe you like a support role--I am curious to see what people say.

For me, I would definitely pilot an A-Wing if I were choosing from the fighters, and if I were going to captain a ship I would want to be on a Mon Calamari frigate from Empire at War.

What can I say, I like my maneuver and speed...in an Empire-free package, thank you. Oppression and evil has never been my thing, though after saying that I'm sure several of you have already dispatched Inquisitors to "reeducate" me. ;)

So, what are you all thinking? What would you like to fly?

B-Wing for fighter. I love the design, and it was my favourite fighter in all video games.

As for capital ship....honestly, hard to pick. I'vew always been a huge fan of slow paced "age of sail" battles, and like the more massive heavy ships. So....probably an ISD-II. Powerful, imposing....the full package.

TIE - Defender (as seen in the TIE video game and other EU sources). Speed, shields, tons o' guns, and missiles -- oh my :D

Capital class is a toss up between the Venator SD and Nebula SD: There was apparently a Nebula SD named Obi Wan Kenobi . If I could skipper that ship, definitely the Neb-SD.

I would fly an E-wing for a fighter.

My choice of capitals would Defiantly have to be the Providence-class.

A-wing.

Nebulon-B.

I find both of these ships very elegant looking. The A-wing looks like its moving even when its parked. The Nebulon is just such a departure from what space ships are usually thought to be and yet it pulls it off. Yeah, it's weak but I wouldn't be conquering any planets anyway.

The only thing is, the X-wing "comes with" an astromech both in mission and while off which would be pretty cool too. Maybe an A-wing, some space duct tape and a USB port would allow for it...

T-Wing for the Fighter.

ShaShore class Frigate (In many ways its the Legacy era version of the MC30C Frigate from Empire at War. I've always wondered if the ShaShore was an MC30F or MC30G model or perhaps an MC35.)

I want to say an Imperial Class Star Destroyer or Victory II, but I know deep down my heart goes to the Providence class Destroyer/Cruiser.

I mean it took me years to reach that choice. If you asked me 2 years ago it would be the Imperial class 100%, but the Providence just seems to have everything I want.

As for a fighter, why would I bother to fly one when I could have droids do it for me? But I would take the A-wing or Y-wing if I had no choice.

Good ol' X-wing for me, and a modified CR-90 such as the "Night Caller" from Wraith Squadron. Love the whole concept of a very fast little pocket carrier that can land anywhere and carry a whole squadron of x-wings with it

Starfighter: Man, that's a toughie. I'd probably have to go with the A-Wing, as I love the look and it has always been my favorite ship to fly in video games. A shield-equipped TIE Interceptor and the K-Wing are also up there, though. Yep, the K-Wing - doesn't fit with the feel of the other two, but I'm a fan of the look, and flying a big, heavily-armed assault fighter appeals to me almost as much as darting in and out with a dogfighter.

I doubt a Surronian Conqueror -class would count...but if that's an option, then definitely that.

Also of note is the V-Wing Airspeeder - I loved using that in the original Rogue Squadron game, and was extremely disappointed to learn that it wasn't a true starfighter and that it lacked many of the capabilities it had in the game.

Capital Ship: I'm tempted to name one of the more common Star Destroyers ( Imperator -, Venator -, or Victory -class), as I would like the feel of being at the helm of a large, powerful starship/carrier...but I'm going to have to go with the Hapan Nova -class cruiser. Graceful, but a different style from the typical Star Wars/Rebel vessel, fast, well-protected, and well-armed, plus with good endurance and a sizable hangar bay. The only problem is the Hapan turbolaser weakness...but that could be easily remedied. (I also almost named the Marauder -class corvette for similar reasons as the Nova )

For the fighter: TIE Intereceptor. I just love that design with the 4 bent wings saying 'I'm fast and i'm coming for you'. Add a deflector shield and i would probably never leave it.

Capital ship wise: If EU is allowed i'd take the Pellaeon -class Star Destroyer.

If not, i'll stick to the ImpStar Deuce.

If we are allowed to go all the way: Eclipse .

Xwing. Because they're awesome (and none of that xj x-wing bs).

Comandeered Nebulon B frigate or venator class SD. A mid cruiser with a solid complement of rebel fighters to make hit and run strikes against imperial targets on long term missions would be the way to go. Although the venator seems to suffer from awesome bloat with the number of guns, fighters, and shields for its size.

Without a doubt the TIE Interceptor. To hell with shields, just blast through your opponents targeting reticule with amazing speed, and then break hard 180 to pummel him with four laser cannons!

The Nebulon-B frigate, has always been a favourite of mine (even though I always play Empire in X-wing, and will continue this trend in Armada...).

Heheheh!

Which fighter I'd fly with - I think you'd all know by now.

Har...which Starship?

It's a toss up between the Interdictor 418 or the Interdictor SD. :D

The Executor.

TIE/D.

ARC 170

Modified Corellian Gunship

Although from roleplaying game experience, I have to say commanding an Executor-class Star Dreadnaught is also exhilirating even if mine was heavily modified.

I love the A-Wing, but X-Wing is also a great ship. The fact that you can have an astromech buddy in an X would probably clinch the deal for me though.

Not familiar with many cap ships, so of the ones I now I'd prob go for a Neb B.

I always play rebels in x wing, ironically I'd pick.. drum roll..

Tie Fighter.

haha. seriously. anyone read the first x wing rogue squadron book? tycho melts all the would be rogue squadron pilots in nothing but a plain old tie fighter (was during their selection simulation phase). That gentlemen/women, is being a truly good pilot. Of course with my luck I'd be charred molten metal floating through space on my first mission but yea..

as for a cap ship..

spaceball one. that is all.

I absolutely love the Hapes Nva as well as the Marauder-class. They are both extremely good-looking ships.

You sir, have excellent taste. (Anything that agrees with me is excellent, right?) :D

The Venator does suffer from some serious power-inflation statistics, but pretty much all of the prequel ships do. As far as look and feel, I am with you: I like the Venator a lot. Judging from responses in this thread we are not alone!

The Nebulon-B is my favorite Star Wars movie capital ship by far, along with currently being both my favorite canon capital ship and my favorite ship in Armada.

Yup this two ships are just awesome.

But there is other awesome concept. I would like to command one of World Devastators. Huge ship-factory, that can produce other World Devastators, ships, fighters, droids... just land it on planet and begin the process.

Oddeye seems to have added a third category... Let's call it other.

My "other" ship would have to be a Whitestar.

(Okay, I know: Oddeye's was funny. But the Whitestar is just fun... Wheee!)

Hmm, for starfighters, Tie Interceptors are always fun, then again so are B-Wings, and Z-95 Headhunters... But I'd probably have to say the Tie Advanced. Sure Interceptors are nimble and speedy as all hell, but the Tie Advanced has a lot more versatility in a pinch. Load it up with missiles, let shields deal with any stray shots from the reduced maneuverability, and in the absolute worst-case scenario, it has a hyperdrive. Plus the increased targeting capabilities over other Ties (though that's going by Legends canon) and it's a very nice ship. Either the Avenger variant or the much more badass-looking (but slightly reduced peripheral vision) X1 is fine by me.

Granted, my favourite Tie I'd usually say is the Tie Defender, but with the costs to make one, I imagine they're hard to upkeep. And, y'know, the other's Darth Vader's fighter so I may be a little biased there.

Now, as for capital ships there are several I'd like but we have to choose one, so I'll list the runners up:

-Victory class Star Destroyer is my favourite Star Destroyer, from far too much playing the X-Wing combat sim. Has all the intimidation of an Imperial-class, in a slightly smaller package with the added "wing" portions making it more visually pleasing.

-Mon Calamari ships have the benefit of looking quite unusual for massive battleships, almost organic looking, but surprisingly powerful for such sleek ships.

-Nebulon-B frigate is one of my favourite ship designs, though I always think it's moving backwards, despite the glaringly obvious engines.

-Executor is well, ridiculously big (and awesome for it).

Now for what I'd choose:

-A Lucrehulk-class droid control ship. Yes, as in the thing Anakin Skywalker blows up in Episode 1. There was mention in the novel Death Star of a rebel force using a refitted Lucrehulk as their flagship, and after looking at cross-sections of it again and again it's becoming one of my favourite ship designs. The arms are basically giant hangars, airfields in their own right, but with plenty of room for retrofitting any number of combat systems if I don't want to put an entire fleet of starfighters in there. And a lot of the crew and command decks are contained in the central, detachable, core ship. So if things go wrong, hey, escape plan. Specifically the droid control variant because I think all the antennae and dishes make it look cooler, and of course with at least the weapons they would have been upgraded to during the Clone Wars.

And you don't have to stick with fighters in those hangars, they're big enough for something larger than an old Republic Cruiser, which itself is almost the size of a Blockade Runner. Much like the Infinity in Halo 4, it would be a massive ship launching large ships.

Granted, it's still ridiculously big, about three kilometers or more in diameter by Legends standards, and the general consensus of this thread seems to be going with smaller ships than that, but that would be my choice of flagship. Plenty of room to mount additional defences too, assuming I didn't have to disguise it as a perfectly legal bulk freighter.

Make sure to have anti-fighter cannons on the inside too...

Actually, that gives me an idea for an end goal for a Age of Rebellion game now. Base is dangerously close to Imperial detection so the team is sent out to find a mobile base. A few sessions later they could find and abandoned Lucrehulk floating around in space. Maybe it will have most of it's droids still ready for orders or something.

Whereas I've been toying around the opposite idea for an Age of Rebellion game, where said Lucrehulk was the command ship of whatever contingent of the Rebellion the players ended up in.

Or it could be painted red and become an Errant Venture-like casino for an Edge of the Empire setting...
