How long after the Battle of Yavin do you set your campaign?

One little event changes everything. I like it!

Wow, I bet there a loads of moments in the movies where if you chnage one thing, it changes so much.

Inspiring stuff guys. :)

My game is "shortly" before Yavin. It's also decidedly AU. Basically in my universe, during Obi-Wan's fight with General Greivious on Utapau (I have no idea how that world is spelled!) that rolling wheel vehicle crashed into Greivious's starfighter, knocking it off of the platform. As a result, Obi-Wan didn't use it to flee Utapau after the clones turned on him and was stuck there for weeks or months. This has resulted in the following changes, some of which my players know about, some of which they don't.

1) Vader was not confronted on Mustafar and never became a cyborg. As a result he is much more powerful than he is in the OT.

2) Luke and Leah were born to Padme who died in childbirth. Vader raised Leah and the Emperor raised Luke, the idea being that if the twins were split between the two of them it lessened the odds of Vader rebelling.

3) Leah runs the Inquisition

4) Luke is an Emperor's Hand and is in fact, the leader of this group. They're slightly different than they originally were, acting not only as enforcers, spies and assassins but also as a counterbalance to the Inquisition lest Vader get too much power.

5) Han and Chewie were both captured by Jabba and are essentially out of the picture.

The PCs have slowly gotten involved with the Rebellion and soon they'll be asked to do what seem like simple missions to ferry some people to and from dangerous areas and maybe intercept some transmissions and ferry them to other places. They'll slowly come to realize that what they're doing is getting the Death Star plans for the Rebellion. I plan to throw a twist at them when the Death Star tests its superlaser however. Rather than destroying Alderaan it will destroy Corellia which will make it much more personal for a couple of my PCs and also demonstrate that I am changing things up.

In probably 3-4 months they'll do the trench run and I've already warned them, success is not guranteed and if they fail Yavin will be destroyed and things will take a very dark turn. We'll see how it all goes!

Reminds me of a Saga Mush I was on kind of but different.

Anakin was never injured on Mustafar

Luke and Leia were switched so Luke was Prince Organa and Leia was raised on Tatooine.

Obi-Wan was presumably killed in Order 66 but Windu survived.

Mon Mothma was killed so Garm bel Iblis was running the rebellion.

The conflict between Xizor and Vader was much more open with Black Sun and the 501st basically being at war with each other to the point that the 501st and some of the Alliance members occasionally teamed up to take on Black Sun, especially when Executor and Vader were MIA for a while and Xizor was basically second in command of the Empire.

The first Death Star was destroyed moving to attack Alderaan which led to an Imperial invasion of the planet and a major ground war on the planet's surface.

The Emperor never dissolved the Senate which had massive repercussions after Endor though the Alliance also sustained heavier losses at Endor including Home One.

Out of curiosity how much thought have you put into the effects of destroying Corellia rather then Alderaan? It would severely disrupt both military and civilian shipbuilding in the Empire and hinder shipment of goods within the empire until other shipbuilders expand their freighter and transport design and production capacity which will both lead to more unrest and hinder the Empire's ability to combat it. Plus there are probably more Corellians in the Imperial military then Alderaanians which means more likely defectors, saboteurs, and such in the aftermath. (Though I love the idea of Palleon defecting in response to the destruction of his homeworld) And it could easily lead to other major shipbuilding centers either aiding the rebellion covertly or planning their own revolts out of fear that the Empire might target them next.

Ours started just after the destruction of the first Death Star.

Our GM and I traded positions so he could play and I tried to get the crew involved in the Battle of Hoth. They brought the Rebels cold weather gear and supplies and then ... they meta-gamed the knowledge that they knew the attack was coming so everything fell to a stand-still. I had a side battle planned away from the main one (two scout walkers advancing on one of the forward watch posts) - but they were adamant on their non-involvement with the Rebels.

Currently, we learned that the Rebels were routed and the Second Death Star was NOT destroyed - so we're in one of those alternate universes, which I'm not happy about, but we'll see where it goes.

Mines currently an indeterminate amount of time before Alderaan, but its not been specified by me if its week, or months, or a year.

Its close enough that ANH would be considered 'the present' but its not actually happened yet. Not sure when it will :)

I haven't given a huge amount of thought to the loss of Corellia, partly because I suspect Yavin will be the pinnacle of my campaign which will happen mere months later. Basically, I plan to conflate parts of RoTJ with ANH and have the Emperor on the Death Star as he doesn't trust Tarkin and wants to be in control of this massive weapon. Honestly, after the destruction of Corellia, Tarkin will likely be executed precisely because of the issues you mentioned.

Mine is set just prior to the disbanding of the Senate and the launch of the Death Star and the destruction of Alderaan. I really want to do a 9/11 type of thing with the destruction of Alderaan where my players really feel the impact, loss, and horror of the loss of Alderaan.

I set my first season of my episodic campaign 10 years before the Battle of Yavin. The next one coming up will be set 5 to 6 years before the battle of yavin. I feel it give us more flexibility and room to roam.

About the same year, a few months after the end of A New Hope, aiming that the campaign will end at Battle of Hoth.
