post your perfect 101-point builds

By force kin, in X-Wing

I can't remember how many times I've had a great idea for a squad, sat down and crunched the numbers and its exactly one point over the limit. There are always ways around this, of course, by changing out upgrades and ships for cheaper ones, but lets see the most fearsome squads you've made that hit exactly 101.

Most recently:

Commander Kenkirk (44)
Determination (1)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Gunner (5)
Rebel Captive (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Academy Pilot (12)
Academy Pilot (12)
"Backstabber" (16)
Total: 101
I had to downgrade backstabber to nightbeast, but this squad would have been so so much better. Nightbeast is under-rated IMO, focus-barrel roll for repositioning, focus-evade for turtling. In turtle mode I'd argue he's nearly as good as dark curse, but also has the ability to do other tricks that DC just cant.
so, he's not the worst swap for BS, but BS is the cheapest flanker in the game, at only 16 points he's someone you can't jsut ignore and allow to get in behind you. This makes him worth his weight in gold IMO, 16 points your opponent cant ignore doesnt come around very often, or if it does (bandit with cluster missiles, maybe?) it's easier to kill and/or doesnt maneuver as well as a tie fighter. In this particular list, with a mostly-defensive-but-has-gunner decimator, this dynamic would be invaluable.
It is still a good list, I've gone something like 6-1 with it, but backstabber would have been so much better.

It's 102, but I really like the idea of 2 shuttles with Advanced Sensors and Fleet Officers and 4 academy pilots. Having to drop the 6th ship really hurts, even if it does mean you can run Howlrunner.

kind of irrelevant, given these are not lists we'd be seeking advice on (because they're ******* illegal) as much as a place to post those "could have beens" and the frustration that followed

speaking of

Keyan Farlander (Stay on Target, Advanced Sensors, B/e mod, Intelligence Agent)

Blue Squadron (Ion Cannon)

Blue Squadron (Ion Cannon)

Prototype A-wing

(101)

The difference between the prototype and the bandit/tala is absolutely massive. The prototype is a mobile and sturdy gnat that races right into prime blocking range. The bandit/tala is a sore thumb that gets in the way of ships that can all displace themselves post movement.

But noooooooooooooooo. Stupid 100 point limit <_<

I'm actually playing in a league right now where I'll be able to play my starting match with 102 points (due to starting with a mostly useless facility). Those extra two points can mean a lot... just not as much as the extra points that other players are getting via reduced upgrade costs.

Honestly, have you tried Black with DTF? pretty awesome for Decimators. I always take it now if i have room for fat lists.

Couldn't you just put chardaan refit on the a wing, or do you already have that figured in?

That is figured in

Farlander's 36 plus the two ion blue's 50 gives me...86 points :(

My most recent was a Scum list:

101 points Pilots ------

Mandelorian Mercenary [Recon Specialist, Predator] (41) x 2

N’Dru Suhlak [Lone Wolf] (19)

Swapped out Suhlak for Leeachos with Bodyguard, which may actually work pretty well.

Bodyguard only work on ship with higher PS so Leeachos won't be able to use bodyguard to help the Mercenaries.

Easy solution: Calculating N'dru :D

not that V.I would be a terrible fit either. It's not as huge as on a phantom, sure, but you'll get some crucial shots off simultaneously with or before the enemy

Could work, but I kind of like the synergy of being able to steal one focus from a firespray with 2 foci and give back an extra agility die

Sadly, as castle pointed out, Bodyguard does not work on anything but higher PS ships (so PS 6+ for Leechos). It's the inverse Squad Leader, but (imo) really sh*tty (I'd take an action -> evade over a green die any day of the **** year for life).

Could have been interesting in this scenario, provided you were encountering squads with low numbers of ships, but it is sadly, literally useless in your squad.

You can kinda sorta not really get similar results with Tactical Jammers if you were so inclined.

Crap, forgot about the higher pilot skill part.

Biggs + Etahn + Blue + Blue

101 points :(

Biggs + Etahn + Blue + Blue

101 points :(

I ran into a smilar problem

Etahn+PTL+Engine Upgrade

Blue+HLC+FCS x2

To be fair, it could still probably work without PTL on Etahn. But the sheer amount of manuverability it would give him would very reliably feed crits to the blues with their heavy laser cannons

I know I have come up with 101 point builds but never saved or committed them to memory as they can't be played.

Gotta love how well this game is balanced.

I want to try this, too, only under the 100-point limit:

2x Mango Merc + Outlaw Tech + Predator

N'Dru Shulak + Lone Wolf

Mango Mercs make a mess of the middle (and a mouthful!) by alternating k-turns and greens, and still getting Focus and a re-roll (or two) every turn. N'Dru patrols the outer rim.

Mango mercs with no mango cannons? You bring shame to the mango name!

Rexler with HLC and predator (47)

howlrunner (18)

academy pilot x 3 (36)

Wild Space Fringer + Ion Cannon + Recon Specialist + Outrider (41)

Grey Squadron Pilot + R2-D6 + Blaster Turret + Predator (28)

Knave Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System + Stealth Device (32)

101 points.

These are all ships that I've liked as parts of other squadrons lately, but I can't put them all together.
