How will you store your Armada Miniatures?

By Alpha Xg1, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi friends,

The heading says it all really. :)

How are each of you planning to store your Armada collection of miniatures?

Personally, I'm divided between displaying them in a cabinet of sorts or buying some sort of carry case with accoustic foam of some kind inside it.

Please discuss. :D

Probably get custom battlefoam made.

With my X-Wing ones I just kept them in the little plastic clamshells they came in and put the tokens etc in a fishing tackle compartmented container. You can actually get the ship, dial and stand all in the clamshell if you pack it right :)

Doesnt really work for large ships though, which is what Armada will mostly be it seems so will have to rethink when I see the packaging :)

ill probably use those plano cases again. they worked really well for x wing. I got a small fishing kit thing that all the plano cases fit into that I found at walmart in the fishing gear section. really handy. also use a nice trapper keeper with those pro sleeves for the cards. (two small cards fit side ways into one card slot).

and can't forget to mention those custom star wars limited addition artwork card sleeves you can find at your local gaming store.

edit: don't bother with foam. it's overkill with x wing minis, they are durable and you don't have to worry about them falling apart like 40k stuff. I've been carrying my x wing stuff all over the place in those plano cases and never had anything break.

Hehe. I was thinking this too. :)

Interesting. X-Wing minis might be durable but, I was concerned about something the size of the VSD (and eventual ISDs and Mon Cals). At this point, I am thinking foam too.

You mentioned Plano cases, those sound interesting.

Found this link though!

A poster named xBino over at the boardgamegeek forums uses Stanley organisers to store his X-Wing minis.

Looks pretty awesome!

Further down, he has a video on how to 'customise' the miniature product packaging to integrate it into each tiny storage cubicle. Fascinating stuff, but it looks as though he's invested a fair amount in 'workbench' materials in order to achive this feat...

Hehe...I don't want my miniatures budget being cut into too deeply! :D

I'm a sucker with a long hours job, so i'm going to go the "Money > time" route and order custom foam and cases from KR Multicase. I have their stuff for all my X-Wing, and cant praise it highly enough.

Not the cheap option though :(

I'm hoping Battlefoam comes out with Armada stuff immediately. I like Feldherr customizable foam for X-Wing, but Amazon doesn't offer the larger sizes and getting it from their website is more expensive than Battlefoam (stupid Euro being > $, plus international shipping, jk lol) so idk if that'll work.

if you google plano tackle box bag you'll see what im talking about. really inexpensive, fast cheap and works great especially for all the ships, tokens, dials, ect.

like x wing, no doubt we will end up with a plethora of tokens and extra bits to store.

I'm undecided still. Because I am frequently going to the FLGS on my bike, I've had to pack my X-Wing minis pretty compactly. As a former Warhammer player, who took great pride in his minis, I really have the tendency to baby them, so they're puzzled together in foam in cheap plastic boxes that I got from Goodwill.

I think I may take a different approach to Armada. I'm certainly not going to baby the minis any less. I want to paint the fighters. I do like the idea of battlefoam, but I also want a hard she'll around it all, and slots for all the tokens and other doodads.

Ill use plano.

I think foam is over dping it. Yeah this models are bigger, but the dont have outlier pieces that could break....maybe the Neb B but thats it.

Whoa...that Battlefoam stuff looks amazing!

I FEAR the pricetag though!

Hehehe. You might be on to something here oddeye! Plano + Foam is a good compromise for me, I think. :)

Hehe, don't know about over-doing it. These miniatures are EXPENSIVE. Not sure how I managed to convince the Minister for War and Finance in the first instance. :o

I recently finished a custom set of matboard boxes and trays to hold my x-wing stuff (15 ships still nested inside my core set box). I chose to do that over the plano boxes because I was able to size the boxes so that the ships can sit in there already on their stand and be ready to go as soon as I get to the game store. When I played this weekend set up and clean up took about a third the time they usually do because I wasn't futzing with the pieces as much.

Since each ship has its own modular box, scaling my container when the collection grows is easy, I'll just build a new shell container with more room.

I'll probably do something similar for my armada stuff. Keep things in the core box until later waves come out and we know how big the ISD etc actually will be.

Specialised foam trays are really a waste of money when you can buy pick 'n' plug cheaper and be able to pack everything rather than the selected ships the foam will take.

I'm just gonna use a large toolbox organizer, costs 30-40$ and should be able to fit all the pieces. I'd agree that ffg models are pretty sturdy, only thing that's broken in mine is the turret for the decimater, cause I yanked on it without realizing it was stuck. (I've got a cheaper side loading one atm, will upgrade to a top one to prevent that from happening.)

I've got KR for my X-Wing stuff and while not cheap I do really like it as it allows for fast set up and clear up times between games.

Depending on the size of the ships and whether KR does appropriate trays I will likely do the same.

Battle Foam. Since I moved to a 1520XL for my X-Wing minis, I have a 432 that's available.

Hehe. Thanks everyone. Lots of interesting ideas floating about.

Hehe, ransburger, some of us aren't quite as skilled with tools as you are -but that does sound awesome, the fact that you can easily upgrade to accommodate new minis!

Major Mishap, you mean, specialised foam trays as in, the ones with the pre-cut silhouettes?

Hey, pgarfunkle? What do you mean by 'KR'? :D

Hehe...DarthSidious must be loaded!

Yes Alpha, can't see the point in paying for the pre-cut silhouettes ones when PnP will do the same job and give you more versatility.

KR as in KR Cases, awesome product, very soft foam.

Hehe. Thanks everyone. Lots of interesting ideas floating about.

Not really. I just like Battle Foam cases, and I really don't care for pluck foam.

glass closet in the hobby room. i never move my stuff :)

Which Pick 'n Pluck would you recommend? I googled and only found expensive ones. Is it easy to 'pluck' the holes in the right size?

Shoe Boxes, Costco bags, and the plastic shells they came in.

I plan to jump mine into hyperspace, and jump them back when I need them.
