We're due for another adventure book!

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Looking at the release pattern it looks like we are due for another adventure book! In the past we have had an adventure book followed by three supplements. So with Fly Casual being the third sourcebook since Jewel of Yavin I am calling that we see an adventure be the next book that is announced.

What do y'all think?

More adventures and hurry please. The first two were both excellent

It really depends. I'm not basing this on anything but I can imagine that the career and location sourcebooks sell better than the adventure modules. Age of Rebellion has already broken away from the rotating pattern by announcing a second career book right after the release of the first.

Maybe FFG released pre-packaged adventures to support new game-masters starting the new system and they'll taper off with time as more technical information becomes important.

I'm waiting on the next sector source book. Suns of Fortune and Lords of Nal Hutta have already inspired TONS of adventures and settings in which they take place. I have a new campaign in mind once my Absolution series wraps up that I hope will take us into some of these areas. ^_^

I prefer the sets of small adventures included in the location sourcebooks to the longer dedicated stand alone adventures.

Although the published adventures so far have been excellent, I'd much rather have more source material and career books.

If FFG follow their pattern then the next adventure published will be a Force & Destiny one. It will probably be out in Q3.

Obviously, because it means the technician book would be that much further away. And everybody knows the technician doesn't get enough love.

Well, let's see. Solely on the EotE side, we had an exploration themed adventure, and a heist-themed adventure. I suspect they want to stay away from potential location-book spots, so I doubt it'll be in places such as the Corporate Sector or the Core. Mayhap a smuggling-type adventure? Transport rare and illegal cargo, while avoiding the predations of a corrupt sector Moff's private army and competitor smugglers?

That might be interesting. Maybe even a good way to slip some of the non-TIE Imperial fighters of the era like the I-7, A-7 and maybe the theoretical A-8s and Eta-3s or Eta-4s in. I would still prefer region and career books over adventure books though.

Adventure books tend not to work well with my current group, but I'm still tempted to get Jewel of Yavin since it's a heist adventure. I wouldn't mind seeing a Smuggling adventure. I really would like the Technician book, or even the Bounty Hunter book, since those would finish the Career set. A location-based book would be nice but we just got one in Lords of Nal Hutta.

I'd like to see a ship-based book, possibly with optional rules for space combat, more new ships, rules about ships like maintenance fees and repairs, etc. I think that's unlikely though, since FFG has been putting so much "generic" info into each Career book. That kind of info would seem likely to be tagged into the Technician book.

The reality is, though, that from the info on the Upcoming page, that we're not getting anything for EotE in the near future, as AoR and F&D are the only things that even show In Development.

Not that my budget minds the break. :)

Nothing for EotE? Fly Casual maybe? AoR has Desperate Allies. And of course, F&D has its core book. Seems all the book lines have something coming up.

The problem with adventures is that they really only appeal to one person in the group, generally. The GM is the only one likely to purchase such a book. Player resource books like the career books and, to a lesser extent, the region books (because they have species write ups and equipment) have a broader appeal.

I can tell you what I think. I think "YAY!!!" :D

I hope so, my wallet could use the rest.

While I love FFG's stuff, I just can't get behind overpriced hard-backed single-use adventure modules.

I don't really care one way or the other. Adventure books are great for new GMs and they typically work at conventions but it's always harder to bend pre-written plots and encounters for existing groups than it should be.

On the flip side, I do like scraping them for NPCs, gear, locations and critter stats.

So... eh?

I'm looking forward to seeing another adventure book, I really, really like the ones we've got.

When we first started our game I wrote everything, then quickly realised I was spending a lot of time that I didn't really have. So I changed strategy and started taking the pre-published adventures and just wrapping them around our story, it's working pretty well so far! I still get to write some stuff but I'm no longer coming up with it all from scratch.

I'm looking forward to seeing the first Force And Destiny adventure the most, but I'm expecting a higher level Age of Rebellion book before we see that. Kind of what Jewel of Yavin was to Edge. That's just my guess though.

We’ve already heard from people who have some inside knowledge of the process, and their explanation was that the publishing of books has much more to do with whatever book is ready when, and not so much with any specific order that is planned.

Yes, I’m sure that they kick off the books in a particular order, but from there it seems to be largely dependent on the order in which things get finished.

So, I’m mostly happy to just wait and see what they publish, and I’ll save speculation for guessing as to what might be included in a particular book once it gets officially announced.

Honestly pretty much all my group uses the Adventure books for is hardware data and new rules. If FFG ever makes a Far Orbit Project style Adventure we would probably run that though. Its the only Star Wars RPG official Adventure/Campaign that my current group has run twice.

I agree. The product line is deep enough at this point that an actual campaign book with adventure seeds, NPCs and plot hooks, rather than another Great Hyperspace Railroad book, would make sense.

Single use only if you look it at in that way...

My group spend 5 adventures (22hours in total) playing through Beyond the Rim. I think we got excellent value for money there. Also I reskin the critters from the jungle adventure quite often when I need some sort of space beasty and when I last went through the book I found that a lot of the possible locations and side characters, etc. hadn't come up yet so I will incorporate them in a future game no doubt.

Of course I too would rather see more sourcebooks, but the occasional prewritten adventure can be a real treat to run/play.
