What do you think of a new canon that peers up?

By DarkGuard, in X-Wing

Is there any weapons that could power up? Ie every turn it does not fire and takes a action gets +1 dice? And after if fires goes to 1 dice?

Why that be too op?

When I clicked I thought this was going to be an Expanded Universe thread

The only weapons that I can think of as "Charge Cannons" are the Deathstar and the Eclipse' Super-Laser. The other is a Mass Driver, and I cannot recall if there were such devices/weapons within the SW Universe.

Composite-beam lasers were actually used in starfighter-scale on the LAAT/i gunships, not sure if on anything else but the tech does at least exist at that scale.

Fusion Cannon

Range 2-3

2 Attack

Action: Place a Charge token next to your ship. You may have up to 3 charge tokens on your ship.

Attack: Remove all Charge tokens next to your ship and increase this weapon's attack value by the number of charge tokens removed this way. Change all [hit] results to [critical] results.

In the Expanded Universe the Hapan Royal Navy used ships equipped with turbolasers with separate energizer coils, each of which had to be charged separately. This meant that if they wanted to fire three times they'd charge three separate coils before launching their attack.

The reason for this was that they'd left the Galactic Republic prior to the development of modern turbolaser capacitor technology, and given their slightly dubious background weren't able to acquire the technology until during the Yuuzhan Vong War. It also became traditional for them to equip ships with the older technology as their battle tactics and strategies relied on ships maneuvering in patterns which allowed them to maximise the impact of firepower from multiple ships simultaneously.

That would make for a good in canon premise for the charging cannon you're talking about, and the rules Spike suggested above seem to fit well.
