The StarViper pack only has a slightly taller bubble, this would probably need to be taller and wider. It could easily fit into an Aces box with another small ship.

So this evening I was flipping through Fly Casual at my flags and the Ships and Vehicles section had a pretty big chunk dedicated to the Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wing Assault Gunboat.
Makes me think it could be a Wave 7 contender.
Other ships of note in Fly Casual included the VT-49 Decimator and the Gozantii Light Cruiser.
There are only a few remaining TIE variant designs that I can stomach. The Avenger and the Hunter come to mind.
I would love to see the Assault Gunboat in X-wing but I'd want them to update the design drastically, as I thought the models used in the games were lazy and uninspired. Somebody posted a picture on the previous page which looked great.

The XG-1 and TIE/hu both make sense.
Coming up with a 'slot' for the TIE/hu would be more awkward, though, as it's very much an X-wing analogue with improved agility - so you're into the territory occupied by:
I don't think the empire needs a third ship in the same bracket, so you'd need to come up with something that marks the TIE/hu out from its peers - both in weaknesses as well as strengths.
It will clearly have an S-Loop. Besides that, there is not much more you can give to the TIE Hunter.
The XG-1 on the other hand is more iteresting. Kinda like the B-Wing of the Empire. Slow and heavy armored without being a Bomber. The Pilots:

I have to admit that I'm not wanting more advanced Tie Fighters. It's going to get to the point when you just don't see Tie Fighters anymore, except as Tie Formations or 12 pt fillers. X-wings will never be played again, either. While I like new stuff and would be happy to the see the gunboat, I don't want more advanced Tie Fighters to come out for a while.

If the gunboat had folding wings like the lambda I'd be all for it, otherwise I'm just going to be disappointed by the two attack dice, low maneuverability, poor ordinance, and inability to wave hi to passing ships like the lambda can.
