I think every species should be playable, given a decent enough back story.

Somewhere a powergamer is figuring out a back story for a Duiniogwuin to make you eat those words.

Them making Hutts playable is a big deal because, as far as I know, it has never been done before and I applaud them for making the effort.

WEG had Hutts as a playable species. They were terribly slow, but they also had a base of 14D of Attributes (most PC species only had 12D), so Hutts were, to some extent, innately superior.

As long as the build of the species fits the rules I am fine with even whatever the heck those are.

The player meant it as a joke, not an in depth critique on the quality of GM. No one in the group was interested in playing a Hutt. Simple as that.

I was commenting to one of my Players that if he said something like that, I would find a way to guarantee his next character was a Hutt just to challenge them at their role playing.

Joke or not, it rang of a complaint not a "not really interested".

It's a space dragon the size of a light freighter that can fly in space and hyperspace, breathes fire (plasma?), and has innate organic repulsorlift capability. Most of them are Force-Sensitive too.

If they could find a way to fit the race within the rules, then yes they could do that. It would likely require the whole group being of that species to be fun, unless the rest of the group kind of built modules on that character's back and lived inside those. I could make it work.

Oh, I remembered one race I won't allow... ever, the Vong. I hate that abomination.

Oooh, and you had almost changed my mind with your earlier argument before completely undercutting what you said.

No, I'm joking. You weren't going to change my mind.

I just want to see a Signature Ability called, "Never Tell me the Odds" and have it some insane thing where you get a force die or upgrade to your ability that makes you AWESOME for 1 or 2 rds.

Funny it was never about changing your mind. Close-minded is ... close-minded. It was about stating my opinion.

As for the Vong undercutting my position, I won't allow for NPCs of the Vong why would I allow a Playable character? They shouldn't have been written in the first place.

The NJO was the best thing to happen to the old Star Wars EU. See what I did there?

Different opinion.

I ran an NJO campaign for D20 for 7 years. Best. RPG. Campaign. Ever.

Bah too much clutter in the reply.

Basically my original point still stands. FFG is picking the races, I am glad they are picking as they are picking fun races (that are fun to me).

Do I want to see certain races? sure, do I complain about the ones they have picked so far? not really (I dislike how they represented Corellians) but other than that they are great.
