I hate that JBR7 is the only one who's consistently positive. There should be more folks like him.

;)

I am a big ole hugga bear... a teddy bear even.

^_^

F*&% with the honey and die a horrid mauled death... but other than that... yeah, I am kinda happy.

It is funny when I use my beloved smiles and folks think it is a gimmick or something. Even when I am being a little mean to a proven smarty or troller... I am actually laughing or at least giggling at that dope for being so little that they have to try to make guys like us upset.

:rolleyes::huh::lol:

Annoyed once in a blue moon is all you lost souls will get out of me... and my fellows.

I don't like this thread, but this has really got to stop. Wasn't funny the first time nor is it the 27th time. Its a Star Wars board, try to at least use Star Wars memes.

I present Beardface's TIE Defender rant (or, why he spends his money on more Interceptors instead):

There is absolutely no justification for having a Rebel Rookie Pilot (PS2) whose flight experience probably consists of flying his T-16 back home, a couple simulator missions, and maybe one or two combat missions (with a kill if he's lucky or a future ace just starting to show his ability) have a higher pilot skill than a Delta Squadron pilot (PS1) who, by order of Imperial High Command, *must* have flown and survived twenty (!) combat missions in a TIE Interceptor merely to qualify for the Defender's pilot seat.

Now, you may say 'oh, but the Defender pilot would probably be PS3 or 4 (or more) in an Interceptor, but he's inexperienced with the Defender, so that's why he's PS1', but again, I look to the comparison with the Rookie Pilot. Assuming that they have equal flight time in their current craft (which I higly doubt - while the Rebellion had a near-constant shortage of skilled pilots, resulting in them likely being forced into combat without adequate practice and training with their advanced starfighters, the Empire had the luxury of being able to spend more time training their pilots, running simulations, war games, and the like, and would most certainly ensure that TIE Defender pilots were familiar with their craft because both the advanced starfighter and the elite pilot are rare and expensive commodities that aren't to be thrown away trivially), the TIE Defender pilot's experience should be clear.

Now, if you assume that both pilots gained the metaphorical keys to their current starfighter yesterday and are being thrown into combat for whatever reason, then the Defender jockey should still have the edge in pilot skill - both because of general experience, but also because his flight hours are on TIE Interceptors (and most likely TIE Fighters prior to that) - a craft whose controls and performance are very similar to the Defender. Sure, the T-16 has similar controls to the T-65, and the Headhunter is essentially a weaker X-Wing, but the similarities between the three aren't as close as they are in the TIE series.

Now, I will say that being relatively inexperienced with the Defender means that a pilot new to it won't be able to take full advantage of the craft's capabilities, and won't be as competent at pushing the envelope, but it will still be a far superior pilot/craft combination than some newbie in an X-Wing.

Therefore, if it were up to me, I would probably have the generic TIE Defenders be PS3/PS5, each with Elite Pilot Talents - the lower lever being better than the average generic, though not as good as the elite generics (Red Squad, Black Squad, 181st, etc...), with the higher of the two (and therefore the ones that are likely to have more experience in the Defender) being superior to everyone save for the Emperor's Royal Guards and most named pilots.

As for the starfighter itself...3 Attack is good, as it is what other quad-laser starfighters have, 3 Agility and 3 Hull make sense, as it's still a TIE, and having 3 Shields is logical as well, as no expense was spared in making the Defender - what would be upgraded shields for another starfighter would likely be standard for the Defender. However, there are three major issues that I have with FFG's interpretation of the craft - the lack of the Evade action, the lack of the Boost action, and the maneuver dial. All three of these stem from the same issue - that the Defender's maneuverability is horribly under-represented in the FFG version. According to the New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, the Defender's design elements allow it to "perform steep dives, a variety of spins and twists, and tight turns"; additionally, "maneuvering jet arrays on the tri-wing assembly allow sublight acrobatics impossible in other TIE craft". The Defender has power generation and management capabilities that are superior to any other TIE, and most sources (including both the TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance games) depict or describe it as being faster and more maneuverable than both the TIE Interceptor and the A-Wing.

However, instead of giving us an accurate representation of the pinnacle of starfighter development, FFG has given us a fast B-Wing wearing a TIE suit. Evade, Boost, speed 1 and 2 turns that aren't red maneuvers, and ways of clearing stress other than flying predictably in a straight line - these are all things that the Defender lacks for some reason, even though the A-Wing and TIE Interceptor, fighters which should be less maneuverable than the Defender, possess.

I have always loved the TIE Defender - it's Star Wars' F-22: fast, agile, deadly, and with a per-unit cost greater than the GDP of small countries/planets. Unfortunately, that isn't what FFG gave us.

*sigh* Man, that felt good.

I'll spare everyone the caps lock for my rage...

I'm sick to death of "meta, meta, meta". I could give a fat rats a$$ about the **** meta. Play the frikin' game, have fun with your friends, try things out that aren't min/maxed calculated to the n'th degree as to firepower/survivability and whether it's a counter to "rock/paper/scissors/lizard/Spock".

I'm tired of "mathwing". I don't need a mathematical dissertation on my models. I'll take the ones I darn well please, play with them and have fun regardless of what someone says about it's combat efficiency.

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" that I can't get a game in unless I'm playing against someone tweaking their tournament list, or having to play IN a tournament. Geez Louise! GET OVER TOURNAMENTS! Do some "fun" events other than "6 hemorrhoid death match"! There's a lot of creative people playing this game, you mean to tell me that NO ONE can think of anything else to do OTHER than tournaments? I can think of 12 incredible scenarios... and that's before breakfast!

The last thing I'm ticked about is people forgetting its a GAME! If something changes in the game it's NOT the end of the world. We're a bunch of people who - when you boil it all down - are pushing toy spaceships around a table making "pewpewpew" sounds at each other. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES THE HUMOR IN THIS?

Play the game and have fun. That's the point. End of rant.

Okay, this thread isn't as bad as I was expecting.

I don't have a lot of hate. Or anger, or rage. But I do have pain. It hurts that people keep calling out turrets and phantoms as lame/OP/broken/takes less skill to win. Of all the Imperial Star Wars characters in this game, my all-time favorite is Ysanne Isard. The character, mind you. She is so brilliant and evil! So because I like her character I play her card. Which fits really nicely on Kenkirk, so I run a Decimator. And now everybody shudders or boos about Decimators, and it makes me feel bad for liking this combo so much.

I was there once, too. A new guy came into the game and his favorite ship was the TIE phantom. It wasn't so bad at first, but after a couple of months, he really got the hang of it, and I stopped being able to beat him. I wanted to complain, but I knew it was his favorite ship. You can't ask somebody to stop playing their favorite ship. So my only choices were to adapt or quit playing. Here I am with Kenkirk, Ysanne and some stupid Rebel that got captured and somehow stresses "Whisper" out of her wits. But I'm still having fun! Do I wish I could run Lt. Lorrir? Yes!!! But that time will come.

ITS TO HOT TODAY AND I HAVE TO DRIVE A CAR WITHOUT AIRCON

Come visit scenic Detroit, Michigan!

Current temperature at DTW is 9°, with a wind chill of -1°. (that's -13°C and -18°C for those of you stuck with the metric system)

Dawg... don't nobody want to visit Detroit lol... like ever.

I've never won with a phantom...that frustrates me.

It hurts that people keep calling out turrets and phantoms as lame/OP/broken/takes less skill to win.

I appreciate your points about people wanting to play their favorite ship. What us haters contend, though, is that the implementation of some ships lacked foresight.

And, since this is a rage thread, here we go! Note: when I refer to "turrets", I mean Outrider/Falcon/Decimator exclusively.

1. 360 degree and 3 attack dice? No range limitations? No out-of-firing-arc penalties? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! HOW IS THIS CONDUCIVE TO FUN?! And Two-falcon builds have to be the most boring build in the game!

2. Dash. Flippin' Dash. So you're telling me that he doesn't have to worry about his firing arc OR asteroids?! He can barrel roll or boost off an asteroid?!!?!?! AND NOT TAKE DAMAGE?! WHY NOT AT LEAST KEEP THE RISK OF TAKING DAMAGE, BUT KEEP ACTIONS! A REASONABLE TRADEOFF!

And a 360 degree HLC?! THAT RANGE ONE DONUT ACTUALLY ISN'T THAT BIG! EVER PLAYED AGAINST PTL+ENGINE UPGRADE + KYLE KATARN DASH?! KNOW HOW FRUSTRATING IT IS WHEN YOUR FRAGILE, HIGH PS MANEUVERABLE SHIP JUST MISSES THE RANGE 1 DONUT?! OR WHEN YOU GET INTO THE RANGE ONE DONUT, BUT HE'S STILL OUT OF YOUR FIRING ARC!?

HOW IS THIS FUN FOR ANYONE?! AND SINCE THE ASTEROIDS POSE NO LIMITATIONS TO MOVEMENT, IT ACTUALLY MAKES PREDICTING HIS MOVEMENTS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT (UNLESS HE'S STRESSED, but keep in mind he can still get pretty far with barrel roll + boost; and a good player knows when not to use PTL)! AND DAT LARGE SHIP BARREL ROLL; IT MOVES FAR!

Oh, hi new player! It's important to know to keep the enemy in your firing arc and dodge asteroids. Nevermind, here's Dash. Just worry about the enemy's firing arcs instead!

3. LT Lorrir has an awesome pilot ability! But it stresses him! And he has no elite pilot trait. Well, doesn't matter anyway; turrets are king! He won't even be worth running with autothrusters because you need the two actions to turtle up!

UGH, FFG should really make some changes here. Running high cost turret ships should be risky! They shouldn't be the reliable, meta-dominant builds that we see today!

4. Phantom. If you have to nerf phantom to nerf turret ships, so be it!

I Played a game last night, trying out a new squad.

Me:
Awing - Prototype+Chardaan Refit
Bwing - Blue SQD+ FCS

Hwk - Rorak +Blaster+Recon

Xwing - Wedge + Predator + R7-T1

Opponent:

Tie Intercept - Avenger

Tie Intercept - Turr + Hull

Tie Intercept - Lt. Lorr

Tie Phantom - Sigma + SPA + Marinade + Adv Sensors

I was really liking how it flew, but started getting creamed by the opponent.

Pretty soon, I lost the Awing, Bwing, and Wedge was down to 1 Hull and had Blinded Pilot.

My opponents squad was down to 1 hull on each of his 4 ships.

At that point I realized I had been forgetting to use Predator the entire game!

GHAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I'm sure the fattie player is having fun getting to arc dodge while his opponent gets to eat **** :P

In all honestly, though, I've found dash to be the least toxic of the lot. His ability is ridiculous, but the HLC blindspot actually lets his opponent counterplay him, his PS is not 9 without forgoing a stellar offense (ptl), his defenses are nowhere near as obnoxious, and blocking him atop a space peanut still removes his ability to shoot. Basically, it requires actual, appreciable strategy to fly with or against him (though I personally still don't enjoy using him, turrets and lack of range 1 just feel so...unnatural)

Of course then FFG goes up and releases the mangler to remove the blindspot, but at least it's not throwing four dice at every angle.

Yeah, as a big fan of the Phantom (I'd fly it if they changed it to two attack dice, I just love the way it moves) the amount of hate it gets is depressing.

Especialy as I'm ordering two more so I can fly Whisper and two Sigmas.

Yeah, I do dislike the turrets quite a bit, and my own Decimator use has felt a bit like revenge ("How do you like it, huh!?"), but playing Han because the Falcon's your favorite ship is playing it for the right reason! So a little frustration or grumbling's fine, but not to the point that you make people feel bad or say it's not legit. My favorite pilot just happens to be Carnor, probably because I'm secretly a jerk, and I was disappointed to read the comic with him and find out he's lame.

Personally, after reading the Shadows of the Empire comics as YT-2400 research, I just don't understand why anyone likes Dash. He's just an obnoxious jerk without any of Solo's charm, so I reserve the right to judge people harshly. :P

Well, most of the hate is rightfully reserved for the ACD characters (and, in my case, only for the Whisper + Chiraneau lists that have proliferated like the unvaccinated measles)

You fly some sigmas and your opponent does not praise your big brass balls, then his opinion is completely moot imo

I honestly only want them to make an X-wing 2.0 to make the Defender how it should have been. Well, also to fix ordnance.

Well I stumbled into my Whisper/Chiraneau list just looking for someone to pair with my Decimator to make all those Fat Han and Chewie players pay for their crimes! Then I realized it was a lot of fun, since the phantom and the engine-upgraded Decimator are the ships that let me feel like my maneuvers actually mattered.

As far as things to hate, I hate Chewie the most. With my limited experience with the LCG, I feel like in every single Star Wars game I play Chewie is made some sort of unkillable tank and exists only to ruin my fun. Wookies are as obnoxious as Ewoks, but harder to murder!
