Target Lock and Focus Prevention List

By jdubs, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Would this list be very effective? The idea is to make the other side lose out on a lot of offensive and defensive utility. This is done through preventing focus/evade with carnor jax, and through soaking up TL by the shuttle. Thoughts?

100 points

PILOTS

Captain Kagi (29)
Lambda-Class Shuttle (27), Fire-Control System (2)

Tempest Squadron Pilot (21) x 2
TIE Advanced (21), TIE/x1 (0), Accuracy Corrector (3)

Carnor Jax (29)
TIE Interceptor (26), Push the Limit (3)

I like what you have, but could you walk me through your thought process on how each piece would work? Like how would you prevent focus and stop your opponents offense.

The idea behind it is to keep Kagi within range 3 of their biggest TL threats. Since it's if they can TL kagi, and not my other ships, then the rest of my ships could theoretically be range 6 from kagi and still be protected. Jax would try to get in close to prevent focuses. These 2 together would be able to prevent a lot of rerolls. The 2 tempests give nice consistent damage with decent survivability. What do you think?

I think in the short term it would help, but then you'd have 3-5 ships all with TL on poor Kagi. He probably wouldn't last much longer after that.

I really hope we'll see more of the Jax man in the future. It might not be what you're looking for but maybe try:

Carnor with PTL stealth device, Autothrusters (34)

Tempest with title and accuracy corrector X2 (42)

Omicron pilot with darth vader (24)

Now Jax will be a pain in the side that is really tough to take down. Honestly I think it's ok if your opponent target locks because that leaves their green dice less likely to absorb those consistent hits.

Hah, this is exactly a list I made that I plan on flying soon :) Great minds etc lol.

Here is another fun one that I played this weekend and won with:

PILOTS

Sigma Squadron Pilot (34)

TIE Phantom (25), Rebel Captive (3), Sensor Jammer (4), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Carnor Jax (34)

TIE Interceptor (26), Push the Limit (3), Royal Guard TIE (0), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

Omicron Group Pilot (32)

Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Advanced Sensors (3), Ion Cannon (3), Intelligence Agent (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Jax is the man :)

It'd be better if you could get Sensor Jammer on Kagi. Would significantly help his survivability, especially with Jax.

I feel like I need the Advanced Sensors on the lamdba so i can get my actions if I'm going to bump, and so I can maneuver better. I can turn up to 120deg in one turn that way. Do you think jammer would be a better investment? I've never had anyone try to take out a shuttle first...They always go for it last.

Jax + Kagi can be a good combo.

Kagi w/ sensor jammer OR engine upgrade (try both and see what you like better).

Jax w/ PtL, autothrusters + Stealth

Fel w/ PtL, autothrusters +Stealth

Prior to autothrusters, I flew:

Kagi w/ sensor jammer

Jax w/ PtL, hull upgrade & stealth

Fel w/ PtL and hull upgrade

Its more fun against rebels, since they are more likely to actually use target locks and the look on your opponent's face when you tell them they can't focus/evade due to Jax and when they Target Lock, they MUST put it on Kagi....its amusing at least ;)

BTW, sensor jammer actually works really well as long as Jax is range1 of your enemies: guaranteed -1 hit every shot.

You think fel is better than having 2x TA?

Kagi (32)

*Jammer

*Int Agent

Carnor (31)

*PTL

*Thrusters

Packing Peanut (12)

Gift Wrapping (12)

Crumpled Paper (12)

[99]

could be fun,

I'd personally exchange the Jammer synergy for something more offensive (FCS + mara jade, for example), but it's a funny thing to have

I LOVE Fel. Best. Pilot. Ever!

Having said that, 2 TIE advanced with the new accuracy corrector would be good too.

Don't get me wrong, i love fel and jax both...I just thought that 2 interceptors might be a bit too squishy. What is your opinion?

I've flown a list like this a few times and it's a lot of fun (it's also won me a tournament, beating "Panic Attack" in the finals). Here's what I've got as soon as Scum appear:

Rexler Brath (37)

+ Lone Wolf (2)

Carnor Jax (26)

+ Push the Limit (3)
+ Autothrusters (2)

Captain Kagi (27)

+ Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

+ Enhanced Scopes (1)

Kagi soaks up locks and goes bowling for enemy ships. Jax does Interceptory things and denies Focus. Rexler is the muscle. And they all get to shoot at PS8!

Sure is squishy, so not for the faint of heart. But that's interceptors for ya. Autothrusters help alleviate this somewhat, since previously, there was very little an interceptor could do against a turret except hope for good green dice. Personally, I really enjoy the interceptor playstyle, but you really have to be good at reading your opponent. If you bump a ship, its usually game over for an interceptor. So it really depends on your comfort level.

One oft overlooked rule is that you can't target lock the same ship twice. So if they target lock Kagi, then the next round they are free to TL one of your other ships. It's a sad rule, but it's in the FAQ. With that in mind, I've been thinking about Countermeasures on Kagi so the opponent has to wait three turns before locking onto TIE interceptors. Weapons Engineer is another good work around against Kagi, so beware.

On a list like this, (which I do love, by the way), Kagi is best with, as previously mentioned, Sensor Jammer. However, I changed it up a bit:

Kagi

- Sensor Jammer

- Rebel Captive

Carnor Jax

- Veteran Instincts

- Autothrusters

- Stealth Device

Dark Curse

- Stealth Device

This comes out to 85 points. You can throw in an Academy Pilot and another crew upgrade on Kagi or Ion Cannon, or you can leave it as it is and throw in Night Beast or a Obsidian / Black Squadron Pilot for initiative bid. This absolutely screws any of your opponents actions. Carnor disrupts everything at range 1 and typically moving last. Kagi takes the target lock, shots, and dishes out stress. Dark Curse can't have tokens spent against him on offense or die re-rolled, and the Academy Pilot leads to blocking shenanigans.

It's great!
