Tournament List suggestion requested

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Okay, this may be far too broad of a question but...

I've never played in an X-Wing tournament so I'm looking for build advise. I like playing Imperials but I find them to be very squishy (far less forgiving); so I could play Rebels. No I don't have experience with Phantoms so if that takes tons of practice then...

I supply the figures for our game group so I can field most things but only have 1 each of any large ship (no 2 Firespray or 2 YT-1300).

So is this net-decking? ^_^ Thanks for any help.

My other thought was Double Ds.

Rexler Brath (37)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Decoy (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Ion Pulse Missiles (3)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

What are your thoughts to either?

Remember this would be my first tourney.

B-Wings are a very good tournament pick, especially for an inexperienced player. They're reliable and cost-effective.

However, I think most seasoned players would tell you you're spending too many points on upgrading low PS pilots in that list. You're better off using the points for extra ships. 4x Blue Squadron Pilots with Advanced Sensors or 4x Blues + a Bandit are all more fundamentally solid and forgiving builds.

As for strategy, just play conservatively, and don't feel the need to go hard at your opponent or stress yourself with big maneuvers. Creep up on him with 1 straights and 1 banks. Try to stay in a relatively tight formation, but don't bump (unless you're using the Advanced Sensors build). Phantoms and boosting turrets will be your biggest problems, but maintaining a patient advance can help you there.

You don't think the Defenders could do well flow conservatively, i.e. not rushing in but waiting for an opportunity?

I had a friend try a double defender build against a double falcon list at our casual night. The defenders did ok, but did not win.
