IT'S ON THE BOAT!

By JudgeShamgar, in Star Wars: Armada

Yes my boat. I was so tired of waiting. I bulled my boat up to the printers, yelled at everyone like I knew what I was talking about and some dock workers put the stuff on my boat. Bwahaha, I love it when a plan comes together.

I nominate EmpireErik as King of Scum and Villainy! (I'll even vote for him, as soon as he sends me my stuff ;) )

Its a pity then that you don't vote for kings, they just sort of appear in the seat

So does ALL the stock go to the US first before its distributed around the world, or does it get split up initially and a container goes to North America, Europe, Australia separately?

Give that release dates seem to be mostly global (except for downunder who is slightly late) I would guess that containers are earmarked off to each region.

I was speaking to the owner of my LGS about this a couple of days ago actually. From what she told me, initial releases are large enough that Europe gets shipped stock directly, but restocks are distributed via the US. Sadly, she was predicting that the UK will have its stock at the distributor on time, but that the stock will then be barred from being sent on to shops whilst the US gets its own stock delayed in the dockworkers' strike.

dudes. I have a fleet of star destroyers I need to command to crush some rebel scum. these dock workers need to get back in line and start cranking out some elbow grease like two weeks ago. We all do our part to make the machine work.

not to sound mean but seriously, prioritize people!

ok rant over.

ya it stinks the dock workers are on strike and the shipment will be delayed. hey look on the bright side, FFG just made this super cool one table top game to rule them all and it's called armada, and that's not even the good news. the good news is it's out this year and in a month or two. we need to be patient folks!

It would be nice if ffg released another article and maybe a video of some game play though..

Seriously? This game could be in Australia already, sitting at the distribution warehouse or stockist that I pre-ordered from, and what's delaying me from playing is that FFG don't want the Yanks miss out on being the first retail release, which is delayed because the Yanks won't pay a decent minimum wage.

Lift your game America, poor form

which is delayed because the Yanks won't pay a decent minimum wage.

Not really. Dockworkers make quite a bit of money. The longshoreman's union has historically been one of the most corrupt, and so I'm not exactly sure their claims have merit.

Talked to the Russian FFG "retailer" about Armada, they said that they generally working with US retailers, and not with FFG. FFG delaying any shipment overseas before US receive the game. It is faster to get game in Russia from US retailers, than directly from FFG.

The dockworkers are not on strike, the employers are engaging in a lockout.

Do you have some facts to back that up? Please educate me.

This isn't about minimum wage - from what I understand, the longshoremen actually make decent money. They're saying it's a safety issue. The owners are saying the longshoremen are working slow to gain negotiation leverage. So, there's a bunch of he said/she said.

If my LGS is correct, then yes - those of us in RoW could be living round the corner from a warehouse full of Armada, and all that would stop us from getting our hands on them would be that FFG wants the US to be in the first wave of customers.

Now, I could entertain the idea that FFG just wants their home country to be in the initial release, but the cynic in me thinks that if the tables were turned and FFG was a UK company, everyone else would have their toys by now whilst the UK would be here sitting waiting on our own.

is the "...first transport is away?..."

Maybe, but not all UK companies have a great history of love for their foreign customers. Games Workshop is a UK company, and it seems to hate customers outside of the UK...

Wait, it actually seems to hate everyone inside the UK as well, so maybe it just hates all customers.

This made me laugh until I cried: because I think you are 100% correct... It explains a lot, really.

Don't get me wrong. I love their models. GW's company motto / mission statement: "..the best toy soldiers." Unfortunately, they have become way too expensive for me to ever build a new GW army again. And their rules don't meet the same quality standards. Period.

Heck, I am buying one of everything for Armada's release. With duplicate fighters and core sets. And that amount of cash would only get me one-third to (maybe) half of a GW army :(

Yeah, it stinks. Our Unions kind of got co-opted by the entrenched corruption they were working to subvert. It looks a lot like the "first" 3 SW films (had they been better written, produced, & edited...)

Yeah, I would buy into Warhammer Fantasy 100% if it was remotely affordable. Even the lack of balance and the constant army book updates that invalidate your army (or lack of army book updates that leaves your army unplayable if you are Brettonia) aren't as crippling as the high cost. :(

Just checked Upcoming: Armada core shows on the boat. I could not find the Expansions under any category....

What's up with that?

There is something I have been wondering about after Cunundrum asked "is the first transport away...?"

Does the on the boat icon signify the begining of the shipping process or that the last container of FFG product (containing the particular game) has shipped from the factory? I wonder because FRP Games has updated Armada as releasing on Feb 28. They are usually pretty good about having the right info. It would make sence if Armada had been shipping during the production run as caintainers got filled at the factory. If that is the case, then the boat icon may signify the last shipment of a particular production run has shipped from China.

Perhaps Armada (and maybe even a limited supply of the expansions) are only waiting for the official ok to distribute to LGS.

Thoughts?

IIRC, Imperial Assault hit the US FLG stores "very quickly" after posting as "On The Boat."

Granted, that is my largely subjective recollection...

Also, I just switched the first drop down from "New/Updated" to "All," and the Expansions reappeared?!? Something is fishy with the Upcoming products app :/
