IT'S ON THE BOAT!

By JudgeShamgar, in Star Wars: Armada

For how long is anyone's guess. If someone could hand me the BBQ sauce I'll start eating my hat. I thought for sure we wouldn't see it on the boat for another month.

Awesome!

Well, it seems they want to honor the Q1 release date, but I think it'll still be April (maybe May) before it hits the stores.

And, because someone has to:

Yeah, but the Wave 1 releases are still shown as being printed.

At least there should be something to use with the dice with soon. ;)

That's fine by me. We'll need some time to learn the rules from the Core.

I would have been worried if it didn't get out today Chinese new year is a week from now

If it goes like X-Wing stuff, then 8-10 weeks from now before it gets to us. That means around Mid April.

I'm a little concerned that FFG's emphasized the fact that wave 1 was to be released at the same time as the core set; either they didn't want to wait two weeks through New Year and pushed out what they had, or the core set will behave the same as the Imperial Fighters expansion and get sent back to 'At the printers' in a day or two.

Well this made a grim workday MUCH better! Hopefully this is like the Imperial Assault ally packs where the rest were all updated to on the boat a day after Chewbacca and the troopers! But I'll gladly take the core on its own too. :)

Exciting!

That would be so cruel... especially after it's been sitting at the printer since mid November!

WOOO APRIL!!! Only 9 months after announcement! ...SUPER Lame roll out FFG.

It is strange, but I hope they have been lying to us, and it has been on the boat for a while... (And if the core comes ou first, I am ok as I preordered the core separate from the expansions. Thank goodness for small miracles)

Yay!!!!!!

Oh my god!

Guys! Guys! Guys! I've seen the boat!

...we're doomed

Nice boat!

just a week ago an employee of "heidelberger spieleverlag", the german publisher of ffg, said in that unboxing video that release would still be in march. i still stick with that and get angry at the end of march if not :) .

I think I'm going to chill and celebrate whenever this awesome product is dropped at my doorstep :P

I heard a rumour that stuff has been shipping out in bits, but the "on the boat" is when its all shipped. Which could mean that they wanted to get it out of China as quickly as possible, but also could mean that given the success of X-Wing, that FFG is producing Armada in a much larger scale (excuse the pun), so there is a lot more product to ship before its all "on the boat".

(which will be great for us players as it is, because it means easier supply of sets and a larger beginning playerbase)

I don't know if it's all that intelligent of them to go all-in on this game, because of the success of X-Wing. My X-Wing is hesitant about getting into this game, and I wonder if they offer such a significantly different gaming experience that the two games won't compete.

Obviously, the games are different games, but I imagine that they so scratch most of the same itches for people, and people already have sunken into X-Wing.

As such, I have the suspicion that Armada is not going to do as well as X-Wing has done, but that doesn't mean that it won't be a success on its own; just at a lower level of success.

But, beyond that, my Magic 8-ball is hazy, and you should try again later.

I would actually argue the opposite, that unless players are really into the tournament scene and the x-wing "kill everyone" battles, that a lot of X-Wing gamers will find Armada deeper and more furfilling than X-Wing. I wouldn't even be surprised if Armada does take off, to see X-Wing wind down in comparison. After all, some people have been saying for a while that X-Wing is starting to scape the bottom of the barrel in terms of the original trilogy era ships, and we know that Epic scale is a disaster, so its only Scum and Villany that has provided a "reprive", albeit a temporary one I think.

I hope you're right, of course.

I agree that epic has been a disaster, but I'm looking forward to the Raider coming out and breathing new life into that form of play.

As to the tournament scene, that's what most players in my community really thrive for. While they may mention some polite interest into some deeper and more fulfilling play style, I think deep down they're looking for that simple contest of X-Wing skill, and not really for a deeper form of enjoyment, that I think you and I would share.

i dont own x-wing as i got in the boardgameing scene again only recently (after 15 years where i last played hero quest, AD&D, bloodbowl and battletech). So while deciding which one to buy apart from the hype of the new i think just the fact that they had the chance to learn from x-wing and incorporate that knowledge into armada is argument enough for me to buy armada instead. although that is ofc what nobody owning x-wing wants to hear just as much as it has some validity i guess.

same problem for me with descent vs IA where i bought into descent and just theme wise like it so much better. actualy i dont like the starwars IP :P .

Hearing this news got me so **** excited then I realized how slow FFG can be at going from on the boat to release.

Aww, heck! You guys are killing me!

FYI - Six weeks from yesterday is March 26th, a mere 5 days until the 2nd quarter of the year.

Also the IA expansion packs have been on the boat for 4 weeks at this point. Keeping track of those may give us a time frame for a release date for Armada.

Yes my boat. I was so tired of waiting. I bulled my boat up to the printers, yelled at everyone like I knew what I was talking about and some dock workers put the stuff on my boat. Bwahaha, I love it when a plan comes together.
