Battlefront 3

By Jo Jo, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Interesting. I'm really hoping the game rocks hard.... and also hoping that the campaign delivers. Lately I tend to have more fun playing a campaign than playing multiplayer with people I've never met.

I have to remain reserved about this game. I have played the Battlefield series since the first one and love it. When I played Battlefront, I felt like it was a really bad version of Battlefield. The game balance was pretty crappy. Whoever had the jet pack guys won. The end.

I will admit that having EA (who makes Battlefront) in control is a lot more comforting to me. I know people will bash them, but if they put the guys who make BattleField on this, then it will be good.

I might actually get this game now.

BF4 is kind of a mess though. Which kind of scares me for this one. I just hope this isn't rushed like BF4 was.

I just hate the EA model of releasing half a game but charging you full price, and then releasing the other half in DLC and charging you even more.

now just make a new KOTOR game that's NOT an MMO!!!!

I've had my issues with BF4, but the whole franchise has been really good to me. Personally, I think they got better with their expansion packs than when they started with BF1942. It's usually not a bad deal to sign up early for their Premium and get everything, especially as I know I'll play the heck out of it.

As much as DLC's suck, I don't hate on them that much. Games pretty much always cost around 50-60 bucks. Always have. I woudl have thought they'd have gone up in price, but the face value has always been the same. The thing with a DLC is that you still get the base game and will know weather or not you like it enough to warrant paying for more.

I'm unlikely to ever get a "season pass" though, as they always try to get you to pre-buy those things. I don't even know if I'm going to like the game, and you'r trying to get me to buy 4 DLC's for it up front?!?! Sure it's gonna save me 4 bucks if I end up buying all 4 of them, but if I hate the game, then I'm screwed out of that money.

I'd rather take a risk and just get the base game... if I love it then hey.. I'm happy to pay a few dollars more for the DLC because the fact of the matter is that I've found a game that I happen to love so much that I'm eager for more content. It's a good problem to have.

It bothers me when they have DLC on day 1. I remember when a game was released in its entirety, and then after a few months , they'd release something to keep its players interested.

Props go to Bioware for the DLC market. Mass Effect 3 was a fantastic example of how I like DLC to be done. Not only was it not on the first day, but there were a plethora of new, interesting playable characters for the multiplayer, and they were all

completely free. Whoa.

Now, a not-so-happy story. Look at Evolve. That thing has $100 of DLC alone, all available at launch, including new characters that you can only get with the $100-option. That's crap. It looked like a neat game, until I saw that I'd have top shell out my X-wing money just to play the whole thing. When you start selling people the rest of their game later, or worse yet, charging them extra on launch day, you've crossed a line.

DLC nowadays has just been getting worse. You used to get like...3 new maps for $10 or so. CoD games are charging what, twice that now?Eh. Map packs were barely worth the $10.

I really hope BF3 doesn't disappoint. I've been waiting years for this game. I never like the battlefield series much, but only played BF4. I'd watched the others plenty of times, and my friends finally talked me into 4. I think it had potential, sure, but it just felt a bit gimmicky (plus, people with snipers on nearly unreachable rooftops get reeeaaally old). They've been given a big responsibility, and there's a large fanbase to disappoint if it goes wrong.

I guess we'll see.

Seconded. I vastly prefer singleplayer campaign, or couch co-op. It's been really difficult to watch the focus shift so strongly to multiplayer at the expense of campaigns.

Oh yeah, I love the franchise, probably one of my favorites. I do think they kind of peaked at BF 2 and have gotten slightly worse since then. I hope they have learned their mistakes from BF4. I think they tried to cram too much into one game.

Evolve looks awesome and has gotten decent reviews, but the heavy DLCness of it is keeping me away completely. They went full retard with DLC.

Any game that has $100+ worth of DLC stuff is an instant fail in my book - UNLESS it is a free-2-play game.... then it's probably still a fail, but I might at least give it a shot. League of Legends has the best model in my book. Good gameplay, totally free, and the cash-shop is primarily vanity stuff, Costumes, Ward skins, etc. Keeping it free will keep the community there, so you don't pay 200 bucks for a game and then multiplayer becomes a ghost town.

Day 1 DLC may feel a bit unfair, but that's due to how the companies handle it. As a concept, it's a good thing, because it gives developers something to do in what is otherwise a "dead zone" in development where they can't make changes to the product they're shipping, but still need to be on hand for the project* (Paying to download a 1 MB key to unlock features on the disc, however, is stupid. But at least some of the time, you're paying to download 500 MB that uses some features on the disc they had to cut due to time constraints. Javik from ME 3 is a good example- You can find some of the files if you go digging into the base PC game, but the DLC itself still takes up a fair bit of room because they couldn't fit him into the base game in the time they had).

I mean, I suppose they could bump back the release date for the content even though it was almost finished, but that would cost them money from the early purchasers who sell the game back (Which is a real drain on sales, when a distressing number of games struggle to break even).

*Extra Credits has a good segment on this that I heartily recommend checking out. Actually, a lot of their stuff is good.

Yeah, the whole day 1 DLC seems like a money grab to me more than anything. Why release the game if you didn't finish it?

****, I might be more excited about this game then the movie. Its been a long time since they have released a good Star Wars game.

And you may just get that game. A couple months after release and with some additional DLC purchases.

It is almost sad looking at the modern video game market. So many shoddy releases that need to be immediately patched or is actually a more expensive than on the sticker. I may miss out on these titles because of my choice of console, but I am pretty much assured a quality game upon release.

I dont know if I would trust those rumers. I watched a making of SWBF video and the EA people involved said it would be taking place during ep 4 - 6. They were excited to be using the movie models for their game. It was brief but it also looked like they werent doing space battles. The only flyer I saw was the T-47s.

Urgh if it's just ground combat I'll pass, I want a decent space combat mode.

the ONLY two things I need from this game is 3rd person view and local splistcreen.

I've got a feeling we won't get either of those things. :(

Oh you'll get space. It won't be a complete space sim, but there will be space combat.

I'd bet money on a 3rd person view (especially since we will get hero characters with lightsabers), but I'd also bet money on no local splitscreen. I don't think DICE has ever done local splitscreen on a console title. The Frostbite engine stresses consoles enough, it would be to hard on the consoles to render two different players in an instance.

Know what doesn't get stressed playing a game the PC home of true gaming.
